Re:Sonar X1 - Where are we?

I have to agree with both of the last two comments, (thats all I needed to read to see that I wasnt the only one feeling this way) I have removed X1 twice and reinstalled it twice (with the updates) and got different results each time. It really pisses me off, I have been a faithful Cakewalk customer since the early ninties and have spent tons of money! If I have to remove it again, I guess I'll try going back to 8.5. before trying a different brand of software. Is any cakewalk people reading this stuff?

Is any cakewalk people reading this stuff? While we are lucky enough to have interaction on this forum from Cakewalk staff, the only way to ensure problems are bought to the attention of the correct people is via the Problem Reporter.

I have been using X1 from early in it's release. I have some issues with getting used to it due to the habits I developed with version 8.5 and earlier. Also my system is somewhat low on power and disc space at this point, so I cannot really evaluate it's stability and power fully until I upgrade my system (coming soon). I like a lot of the new features, such as the Pro Channel strip, and for the most part I like the docking options, although I sometimes struggle to use them because I am so used to opening multiple windows all over the place. A few things I cannot yet get used to and mostly dislike: Global snap settings (as has been mentioned a lot), the lack of a "save" icon (you have to do File/Save), the inability of the tool bar to fit all your gadgets or expand the toolbar space, and I continually accidentally delete notes in PRV by right clicking, when what I wanted to do was to bring up the note properties to edit them (it's a simple doubleclick, but old habits die hard). Also, in PRV when I open it up it has all notes selected automatically and I invariably edit a note and wind up editing hundreds or thousands of notes, causing some delays and even a crash or two. In theory the "smart" tools are smarter, but I'm not as smart as they are . In general most of my gripes are that I have to change the way I'm used to working, and this I accept for the most part as the price you pay when you upgrade, and in the long run it may well be worth it; but I am still undecided at this point.

You might want to check out benstat's Sonar Plus (FREE) as it will give you most of your buttons back as well as a number of other useful setup adjusments and extra control (dual snapsettings NOW!).... It's totally benign to Sonar itself and after a simple install it will totally feel as tho Sonar simply put back a user toolbar! http://www.sonarplus.co.uk/Pages/Default.aspx Keni

This is great. I wonder how long it will take them to make it compatible with the C version of X1 due in August. It would be nice if Cakewalk forwarded them a demo of it. --------------------------- You might want to check out benstat's Sonar Plus (FREE) as it will give you most of your buttons back as well as a number of other useful setup adjusments and extra control (dual snapsettings NOW!).... Sonar Plus is good. But do you guys see odd behaviour within the browser when you hit save (either method)?

OK, thanks. When I have PLUS engaged, my cursor leaps to the bottom of whatever I have visible in the browser on hitting "save". (I'm sure I saw someone else raise this too - probably dreaming). CC

UNTIL, last night at 2:50 am EST Sonar crashed for no reason what so ever during the mixdown of my only entry into the OMG contest. This resulted in missing the deadline and trust me I was pissed. Now, I won't put it all on Sonar because I probably should've got it in earlier, but at the end of the day I relied on Sonar to get a job done for me and it failed in a "critical time sensitive moment." I mean once I restarted Sonar and did the mixdown over it was down, but as I said it was too late by then :(............. Well, that is a horror story... Julien

I have no problems with saving regardless of how I do the job... and I always run Sonar Plus and I'm using a modified (by benstat's Sonar Skinner) Panup Mod (Orfeus).... I'm not rteally having any problems with bugs at the moment... X1 is as stable as 8.5.3 on my system... My issues are that the new gui and such are great ideas, but in their' current incarnation they are slowing my work by quite a bit.... If they come up with an Event Filter "ALL" or some such... and a way to both set a now time and select the clip in a single click (as I can in all the earlier incarnations of Sonar) along with correcting the snap isse (which benstat took the sting out of), I can almost ignore my other complaints and move forward with X.... but as it stands, I can't (in good conscience) charge my clients the extra 30-60minutes it slows my work in a typical day.... Other issues such as it's look? I can live comfortably with Panup's color changes.... and benstat's hide-multidock so most of the gui issue disappears for me... If only the groupings of widgets allowed more flexibility so that I could see more controls on screen at one time (as in the past)... So the gap isn't that big for me....and I have hopes that these issues are under development and maybe even included in X1c (as is the dual snap I'm told).... But I['m also not holding my breath as I've been surprised before! ;-) Keni
