If you're trying to show italics, bold, etc., it doesn't show up here on the forum thread itself but it does show in the quotation in this reply I'm typing here in the response window. And none of the formating you did shows up in the email notification, either.

Guess what's made a re-appearance? The horizontal scroll bar across the bottom of the screen. I've kept the window size the same for weeks now up until the forum software upgrade when the horizontal scroll bar appeared. That got fixed by the admins here and went away. Well just today I've noticed, with my window size kept the same, that bleeping scroll bar has come back, but it will go away if you make your window really huge. I've got a 26" monitor on my web machine and in order to make the scroll bar go away I need to make the window a good two-thirds the width of the screen for it to go away. Consistency - got to love it.

And I mistakenly double-posted (well, now, triple-posted) about this here: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=1782151 since it's currently so difficult to read posts.

BTW, another reason to keep the Reply window alive somehow... I Googled "PGD" and lost my very eloquent and incisive post. These used to be called "HTML codes", back in the day... What's the difference (I daren't Google it again right now, but nothing floated to the top the first time.)

Thanks-

And now the quotation style has changed once again. I don't know what's worse - having the forum down when they made all the changes or having it up and running and things changing on the fly.

Also found this - it's one of the first things that come up in a reference on Google:
In medicine and (clinical) genetics preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD or PIGD) (also known as embryo screening) refers to procedures that are performed on embryos prior to implantation, sometimes even on oocytes prior to fertilization.

Hi Jack-

If I could read that, I'm sure I'd laugh, so:

I bet it's not this, though: "preimplantation genetic diagnosis".

But I'm sure PGD means something to web designers, so I bet we'll hear from one soon.

Thanks-

That's exactly what it means. When I composed the reply everything showed okay in the response window with the proper formatting of the part I pasted in. I don't know what happened when it made it to the forum.

Hi Jack-

I'm seeing the same thing. Here's the post I think you're talking about: http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=1782109

I get nothing there, and the e-mail consisted in toto of "o".

-Susan

Edit: I shouldn't say I don't get anything, but instead of reaching the specific post, I get the forum list.

preview option is still plagued.  tried it out on another computer and a friends pc and was able to duplicate the problem i've encountered half a dozen times.  firefox must not like the new forum enhancements.  please add a post message button in the preview window so a user does not have to close the preview window to return to the original Reply to message screen.  each time i close the preview window to return back to the Reply to message screen, the error occurs.

If you look at the preview and then want to change something in the message, you have to have a way to get back and edit it.  So a "Post" button might be handy but the underlying problem need to be fixed so that you can get back to the non-preview version of the message.

well, that's weird.

it was originally showing all of the code, as well as extras i had never even put in.

and i forced a refresh, and it was still all buggered up.
now, it looks fine.

someone must have tweaked it and changed it, otherwise, i'd say there's some strange intermittant problems with the buttons and the code...

Now this is weird - the post I made above wherein I pasted something about pgd was originally messed up and unreadable and now it's okay, looking as I posted it and intended it. And to Susan, sorry 'bout that - with the strangeness going on here with the forum software and the rains we're getting here in NJ, I am getting distracted and well...

Another weird one - the horizontal scroll bar problem across the bottom of the page had made a re-appearance a day or so ago. I'd not re-sized my windows since the problem originally cropped up and then got fixed. To make it go away this time I had to really enlarge my web page size. Now this morning it appears to have gone away, but not quite. If I hover over the 'message options' button on the top left of each post, the drop-down list that appears runs off the side of the page and makes the horizontal scroll bar re-appear.

Oh well. We still don't have a 'in reply to' in a post nor real mention of who's being quoted or any real way of telling what's being quoted from what's new in a post.

I'm seeing this kind of thing all over the forum (Firefox 3);

''your last song “Dragonfly”, but I clicked back to the jam sessions page and found “Running With Jah”. ''

I'm sure the poster didn't intend those characters to appear, what's causing that?

Since this seems to be the thread wherein things having to do with the new forum software I think I should ask this here:
Is anybody getting email notifications of PM's the last few days? I have the box checked in my profile for email notifications of pm's, but haven't gotten any notifications. I don't know I even have PM's until I log into the forum here and get the popup message alerting me to a pm in my inbox. I used to get email notifications early on in the software change, but not these last few days (this week).

I really like:

* how it doesn't take you back to the main Cakewalk page when you log out - it keeps you in the forum.
* The ability to have more PMs and how it will show you whether you have a PM without having to go check
* how when you do the "quick reply", it doesn't show like you're responding to the person who posted last
* how you can easily identify threads you've posted in

My only problem I've had so far is sometimes it take a while (just a few seconds, but still...) to pull up the post message window. And a couple of times the post message window has crashed on me.  Also (this has already been mentioned a couple of times) but I don't like how it doesn't show who you're quoting when you use the "quote" feature.

Thanks!!

Why am I seeing to apparently different styles of quotation? Some I see with the vertical lines delineating the quoted material and some without. Should be consistent.

Also there's still nothing in a post that says to whom one is responding.

And why can't we have a simple, straight-forward time indication of when a post was made and not '1 day and 16 hours ago'?

Hopefully we'll see some more themes here. Not asking for a ton of them, just a few with some darker colors. I know Willy's working on things and hope everything gets straightened out. I know this weather on the East Coast has really gotten people messed up.

+1 to all of the above.

Maybe the quote style is related to how much of the op you're quoting? Here I selected the first 3 paragraphs and hit just "Reply to message", neither drop-down option.

Thanks-

-Susan

EDIT: And looking at the quote here, I see the paragraph breaks are gone. It's also all in italics, so I wonder if other formatting is lost in quoted text. Maybe there's an option for this somewhere, haven't checked yet.

I just got FF updated as well 3.5.1 on a Mac and I can login okay. What I don't like is a tab bar (that's new). It shows up even if you have just one window open. You have to explicitly go in to preferences and disable the thing. I hate tabs.

Susan:
In the email notification there's no italics or special formatting, just plain text. and looking at your post here on the forum there's no italics as you mention in your edit. And the forum is REALLY slowwwwww right now. Maybe it's all the rain we're getting on the East Coast. I'm in NJ (Trenton to be specific) and my wife and I just spent the last couple of hours with the shopvac in the basement picking up the water/sewage that backed up through a sink in the basement. Doesn't look like much got ruined - we learned our lesson a few years back when Hurricane Charlie came through and our basement had like 6 inches of water in it. We have everything up on home-made pallets. And my trains are WAY off the floor.

I already voted, but another +1.

One reason I miss the old-style indicator hit me last night, when I wanted to see roughly what time I'd made a particular change to my system and found myself having to do "date/time math"! I'd forgotten what a pain that is! I don't see any benefit to the new time format.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned (maybe even by me!), but my e-mail notifications of threads come in with the poster's name first, then a colon, then the thread title. Is anyone else seeing this? It used to read "Subscription: [Thread title] - by [Author]". Maybe there's a way to change that in the UCP. It makes it harder to sort posts, IMO. I'm using Agent.

I don't recall seeing anyone mention it, at least in this thread, but I'm seeing it in my email notifications. I'm using the Mac email app - I think it's email client independent. Definitely makes it a pain to sort.

I'm hoping someone (Willy seems to be the only one doing anything about this new software) is working on fixing these things. Although I'm getting the feeling the so-called 'features' of the new forum software are like some of the 'features' in Sonar 8 - close but not quite right and need fixing that doesn't seem like it will be fixed any time soon.
