LOL you guys are awful in a nice way. Glennbo I did say the search is better unfortunately that is the only thing that is better. The most used things simply suck. There is no way to be nice about this. It would be a lie if I tried to lessen the bad vibe I get just using this turkey. To me it has very few worthwhile features and way too many problems. It is not in keeping with the way CW does business.

I still have a few issues with the new forum, mostly usability issues for me. I don't mind the new design or layout or whatever. I'm used to looking at a number of forums so I am ok with slightly different interfaces, etc. I DO wonder why CW doesn't just host a vBulletin forum. They seem to be the leader in most forum areas. Linux hosting is cheap, vBulletin is cheap, and nearly everyone who uses any forum online has used it. So, my usability issues have already been mentioned by others - but I wil reiterate for sake of completeness: 1. When in search mode (new posts, subscribed threads, etc), clicking on a new thread causes that thread to open in a new tab or window rather than the tab you are currently in like it used to. I've found that you can use the "show last post I've seen in this thread" button works around the issue, but it's wierd that this isn't an option. 2. My window loses focus like others have mentioned. I have to click somewhere in the post to be able to use the scroll wheel. This isn't an "Internet Explorer has lost focus as an application", this is more like a "frames" behavior, where only part of the IE window loses this focus. 3. Again, in search view: when the results of the search are displayed, every individual thread entry is listed seperately and in an unrelated order, so even if there were only a few threads that were updated in the last few days, each post is listed instead of just each thread. This makes it difficult to keep up with what I've read, because there is a high ratio of noise to signal. hope that helps - and hope you can help me (or point out where I'm missing out on these things).

You get the sense from Brandon's reply that Cake knows how big a pain the new forum is. I'm sure they're doing their best to correct it. I think back to how many pieces of hardware and software I've bought and tried to use only to find I've s***t in my own nest, so to speak...pardon my asterisks.

It's gonna post the right levels of indention, so that people reading it can tell the difference between what Glennbo said, and what John said. Oh, and the search function sucks, just like it sucks on every web based forum. Search for "reaper" and specify a time frame of the last five days. You get, "There is no record to display". Hey, that wasn't typed here in the last five days!!! ;)

John Wow I had no idea so many were as upset by this as I am. Thanks Susan for pointing me in the right direction! Yes anything has to be better then this software. Who were the beta testers for this?????? How did CW get rooked so badly?????? In case you haven't noticed, WE are the beta testers. As is usual for every release of software that comes from Cake. And what the bleep happened here - were two threads combined? There's some posts titled 'I really hate the new forum software' that are showing in what was the original 'Forum Enhancement Consolidation' thread that I didn't get email notifications about, although some I did. Weird. Oh yeah, to add to the list of problems that Cake can't or won't fix - sometimes the 'Remove subscription' button brings up a directory listing instead of just unsubscribing. However, if you hover over the 'remove subscription' button until the drop down list appears (don't select any option) and THEN click on the 'remove' it works. Another wondeful example of how sometimes things work or don't work.

ba_midi Brandon Ryan [Cakewalk ] ba_midi It just proves: NOT ALL CHANGE IS GOOD This has got to be one of the weirdest things. Why mess with something that was working reasonably well for something that stinks? Like you, I truly dislike this new software for the forum. The important factor is that it wasn't working reasonably well - behind the scenes. I promise we didn't change things just to have more to do. Well whatever - but I'm just stating my opinion, and it seems there are many who feel the same. I also seem to notice less traffic, though it's not a scientific study on my part. Nobody is too close to anything, but thank you for making such completely unfounded assumptions. I use the forum just like you guys do. The fact is there were behind the scenes problems that could not be solved without upgrading. It's still being worked on to make it better. I realize there are some things that could be better, but c'mon, I'm a pretty impatient person who likes things to work and I can certainly get it to fucntion w/o too much frustration. Can we get things in perspective here? And no the people who do the forum have nothing to do with developing SONAR so if that's your worry please rest easy.

Brandon: It's nice YOU can get it (the forum) to function without too much frustration, if I read your statement correctly. Well, there's a bunch of us that can't. And the fact is we haven't seen ANY positive progress here in a long time. There are things that sometimes work, sometimes they don't, and that's across many users. Said it before and will say it again, a heads-up BEFORE the change would have been nice; what would have been even better would have been to allow a public beta test of the new forum software before changing over the whole setup. Now we become the beta testers. Have you checked out the motunation forum? I realize it's not run by MOTU but by a fellow named James Steele. Check that forum out to see how one works as it should.

Brandon; There are a number of issues here. One, the preview is broken when using it in the full version of posting. It looses the post. Two, its unnecessarily hard to quote anyone. Three, there is no indication as to who is being replied to. Four, there is no date on the forum page of first posting or a date of last posting on the unopened thread header. These are the things that make it hard to like this new forum. Also I believe that the forum does not go back as far as it has been around. We are missing posts. There are things to like about it but they do not supersede the things we use all the time that are not working at all or are broken. I wish whoever is doing the update would take into consideration the needs of this forum.

The last known fix was email notifications when a person creates a thread and hasn't posted again to that thread (used to not get notification unless one posted again to the thread said person created - now we do). As to your last statement - we can only hope that they would take into account everyone's thoughts on this. In various communications from Cake people it's been mentioned that there were numerous complaints from people about the 'look' of the forum. Other than a very small smattering of people here, I have to wonder actually how many complaints Cake got. It's also been mentioned that there were numerous problems behind the scenes. If so, how come the forum operated for all these years with the only real problem being the spammers? This change, I truthfully think, was made in a vacuum with no REAL thought as to the consequences of actions taken. And now no one knows how to fix it, or is even willing to fix it, or is even more willing to say they made an error in the changeover. And Cake's gone silent on this. Maybe they'll get a good rest over the Labor Day weekend and this will get fixed sooner rather than later.

I've never seen any forum software operate like this. -Susan Then you should see the Sony forums. There's no email notifications of replies in a thread, no sig file, no quote, no avatars, no 'in reply to', just a basic forum. At least they don't have any spam and visually it's better looking since the recent gui update a couple of days ago. It doesn't react as though it's a moderated forum so I don't know how they manage to have no spam. It's at : http://www.sonycreativeso...com/forums/default.asp But agreed this forum software since the update is a nightmare. At least when it was on usenet as a newsgroup these issues didn't exist because everything was up to the end user's usenet client software. From your start date it looks like you may have been on the group then. There's a few others here besides me that were.

Hi Jack- From your start date it looks like you may have been on the group then. Yes, I was. I miss it in some ways, but then again I miss our "old" forum, too<g>! I screw up all the time now since the quoting is so weird, the Preview disappears, and I can't tell who's replying to whom. It looks like we're stuck with this for now, though. Maybe after the holiday weekend and the imminent new release the forum software will get some love. One can only hope (and complain<g>)! -Susan

I am getting tired of reading posts about how when someone tries to do x they get a sound like two cats fighting over a hippopotamus fart and such. If posters could upload a wave or MP3 with there post, it might be a lot easier to spot the problem.

mark s and this relates to this thread: how? The title of the thread insinuates talking about enhancement of forum features, just not in the specific way slartabartfast is. Doesn't really matter though because Willy and the other (if there are any) web geeks have given up on fixing the problems and addressing the gripes people have with the software update. Call it benign neglect, 'maybe ignore it and it will go away', sticking one's fingers in one's ears and going la la la la ad nauseam, whatever, I'd take it as a sure bet things here will never be fixed.

It is possible to allow the embedding of audio files with custom pgd codes (we'll have to add them on our end) I don't know about uploading though yet. I'll have to see how much storage we have available.
