please fix the emoticon

1. Get them out of the stupid pop up box and back to the side of the input box where they belong

2. remove the escape characters from them. Square brackets (in BBCode, which pgb is derived from) around emoticons were put in place to help solve the problems of code snippets where lines of code often end in ;) or :) and so on, which would break the code.

This is not a software devel forum thus they are redundant, and pointless.

And actually, please remove all the stupid pop up boxes and dumb dropdown lists. There is functionality, then there is stupid. They are stupid, not functional.

Please realize that the "behind the scenes" problems you allude to are due to your choice of MS server and ASP. Both acknowledged by real web developers* everywhere to be utter garbage.

You can run a board 100 times this size using LAMP, and it costs NOTHING.

Better yet... it works.

(* the people who actually work to w3c standards)

EDIT - oh yes, and can you please give us a 5 minute edit window. I make a lot of mistakes and it takes more than ten seconds to fix, and  the "edited" label does cause people to wonder and causes most of us to then provide a reason.

EDIT 2 and please... I, as the originator of a post, should be able to delete my post (especially now that the board tends to double post a lot).

All good things to have fixed, along with some others. But if what one of the Cakers said (I think it was Noel but not sure) when someone made a comment about the 'in reply to' missing and how not having it makes things difficult, the Caker said 'yeah, it was nice to have but it was such a drain on database resources we had to drop it' and I don't hold out hope that any of the problems and quirks with the forum software will ever get fixed.

I have seen forums run on far better software it makes me wonder why Cake went with this?

Maybe now that 8.5.1 is out things will get fixed around here.

Well, I can give them a DB conversion script and will, for a small fee, configure a LAMP server that can handle the full load of a BBS (of course MSQL/ASP cannot handle the load), be significantly faster, more secure, robust and user friendly.

Not on this machine. Mouse scroll works fine. Whether it scrolls a line at a time, 3 lines at a time, or a screen at a time is an operating system or browser function. There was a time early on when the forum software was changed (like the first few days) that the links were a bit messed up and links to older posts wouldn't work, but that has been long ago fixed.

One more complaint. The full edit window is non floating which means it is always in the way.  Also try to goto a different page when using it. I find this new forum software tiresome full of poor concepts, unwieldy and cumbersome. Its as if the person or persons that thought it up tried to do the very worst job they could. This can't be by accident. It had to be planed. Its that bad. Surely there has to be forum software that is up to date and actually works well. This can't be the best on offer. I don't think this thing can be fixed. CW needs to look elsewhere. Please do it soon. We have suffered long enough.

Best

That bleeping edit window and not being able to move it out of the way - another of those big PITA's with this software boondoggle. There are times I'd like to be able to see what's underneath, and with a 26" monitor I've plenty of room to have a bunch of windows open.

I don't think this was planned to work this way with all these bugs. What I firmly believe happened was that Willy and the web geeks got sold a bill of goods & failed to do good due diligence on the possible software packages available. And with the economy being what it is, Cake can't hire anyone from outside to come in and fix the problems, although there are people here would do the job for little or nothing just for the good of the community (but Cake can't or won't see that).

It seems like with the lack of response from Cake on this (and the evidence of any fixes for this) that they've given up and don't care (although a certain someone from Cake has time to post in this thread and then remove his post but not time to fix this).

Hey Everyone,

First my apologies for not posting on this thread in awhile.

We have been working on things (preview window is in muuuch better shape now for example) and will continue to do so.

Next, thank-you everyone for all of your feedback.

Finally, I'm going to lock this thread since activity is calming down and we have a really solid idea of what else needs to be done still and what things the community would still like to see.

If you have an idea/suggestion or found something you don't like that is not already in this thread please feel free to send me a PM.

Thanks,

Willy Jones
