"Like you, I find the perceived lack of interest in the work of others baffling. I want to hear something from absolutely everybody here, it's fascinating to me to hear people walking the walk instead of just talking the talk."

maybe we could start a subforum where the criteria to join is to post a song regardless of the software used with reward points for each song posted and VST`s as prizes.
someone had a go earlier about low post counts somehow detracting from a members worth.
since I began with Sonar 2 I have recorded 34 cd`s around 60 odd ep`s and have lost count of the live demo singles so obviously I would benefit from post count vs track count.

ps:for all you gore Greys Anatomy fans-they went back in and found the clot, drained the lungs properly and now only have an incision from below the knee to the abdomen to deal with.
so,I am back but my Wanker Detection Radar still seems to be malfunctioning...

I went earlier today and listened to 8 songs in their entirety and gave my opinions.

Does that make me a bad person?

I don't do 'offended'.

Sometimes I don't do 'smileys'.

Just to be ambiguous.

back on topic-sort of-I`m reluctant to post or comment in the songs forum because I would probably have to,ethically, get permission from clients to post their material on an internet subforum to justify my existence in this thread or shore up my ego, which would definitely make me a wanker, and I have said before, somewhere in my meagre post count, that I am a recording engineer only and this is the first cd I actually mixed and mastered and Steve`s a mate of mine and has a passionate hatred of "manufactured music"-his term not mine, and the "stymied,middle-aged" quote still rankles so,

For whatever it's worth, one of the other forums I go to is having a very similar discussion to some we've had here.  Too much bashing and not enough song participation so it's not an isolated issue.  Probably it's just everyone going through a cycle and then we'll be back to normal (whatever the heck that is!).

I don't think so.

I am admin of a Christian songwriter's forum.  the traffic on this forum has dwindled over the last several years and is pretty low now.  new registrations are at an all time low.

2007 was the highest number of users on the forum at the same time (829).  lately the high number of simultaneous users is less than 20.  most of the time less than 10.

I blame it on other social media like Facebook.  that's why I don't think forums like these will cycle back up.  I've seen a lot of our members from that other forum move from it to facebook - mostly since 2007 and later timeframe...

Honestly, I think Face Book is dying some as well.  I think CSN would have a chance of coming back again to some descent numbers, but it needs an Extreme Make Over.  It looks older than sin, design-wise.  A younger, more modern audience is desperately needed.

thanks for the feedback!  I have been considering giving it a facelift, but wanted to take it slow.  I've already made a lot of changes that have upset some people! :-)

However- I'm not sure I see the trend of facebook dying.  it looks pretty lively to me.

Ok…reasons for lack of participation in the songs forum so far;
  • The smell
  • Not commenting on songs so grinding to halt
  • John flooded the place
  • Weather-to cold
  • Broke computers
  • Economy
  • To many questions and rants
  • Silly culture
  • Self Interests
  • Sir McCartney blew everybody away
  • John Mutt Lange doesn’t run it
  • Not good enough material to post
  • No interest in listening
  • Songs that never progress
  • Lousy recordings
  • Lousy songs
  • No competent listeners
  • Personality disorders- thin-skinned etc.
  • Stymied dreams of middle aged men
  • To many stooges and not enough Einsteins
  • Pathetic childish attitudes
  • No problems- it's the same everywhere
  • Facebook pulled people away
