Cactus Music Funny, yesterday I notice how this forum was just at a all time low for posts and participants. I've taken to posting questions in Software because that's been the only active sub forum. There seems to be about 5 of us left here yesterday and I was seriously thinking of giving up on this forum myself . Look at all the people replying to this thread. Most I don't recognize as regulars. So we hit bottom yesterday and here we go again, it's all uphill from here. I can just see all those defectors returning now :)
Ha! I never left, I just had very little to say. But then I'm also not one of the "regulars" so long stretches of silence were usual for me.

Meng, please tell me that Sonar will continue to have a Staff View. And an Event List. And a Console View. And so on. The great strength of Sonar is that it has all these different ways of doing things. No other DAW has this. Not to mention all the plug ins and instruments, like Dimension Pro, which has a great version of Garritan Personal Orchestra. You have acquired the most complete music creation software on the planet. I hope you appreciate how special it is.

This is great! I too was not really excited about what else was out there. Though there are some really cool things about Reaper. Sonar has been home for so long. I hope this is a start of another great chapter!

Apart from the ones which do... Anyway, it’s great someone has decided Sonar is worth investing in and continuing development. I’ve thought for many years that it’s the best Windows DAW there is. Though those who, unlike me, use the staff view might be made even happier if it gets the reworking and de-bugging it’s needed for a very long time. Same with ACT and the Matrix view. And for those of us no longer using Windows, any chance of re-activating the Sonar for Mac project? >:-)

I'm delighted to hear this news, and especially pleased that Noel will be involved in the product moving forward. I've been a Cakewalk user since Pro Audio 7 and although I've used other DAWs, nothing comes close to it for me. Like many of you, I took advantage of the lifetime updates and in my case, I paid for this only a month after paying for another years' full subscription. Although I was gutted to hear the news in November, I don't feel cheated in any way - if my small contribution helped towards paying an extra month of one of the bakers' bills, it was money well spent. Software as good as Sonar deserves to live on, and I'm happy to pay my way for future upgrades. Here's looking forward to seeing what the future holds! M.

It seemed ridiculous that a great mature program like Sonar Platinum would simply fade away and not be picked up by another quality company. My personal thanks to Meng and the good people at BandLab for having the intelligence to snatch it up and carry on. I've always dabbled with various recording programs, but Sonar provides everything I need in one package and has been way ahead of others when it comes to 64-bit, etc. It's great to know that Sonar will help us continue to make music far into the future. Your clear communication and your commitment to the product and the excellent group of people here on the forum are very much appreciated.

Thank you for your post. Being able to have some degree of access/conversations with the people behind the product has always been the most compelling reason to visit this forum. Long may it continue. Speaking as someone who since the closure of Cakewalk has checked out the obvious rivals (as a back up plan in case I lost the ability to use Platinum at some point in the future) and saw no compelling reasons to make me want to change to any of them, I'm very much looking forward to hearing what the future holds for Sonar.* * as long as it doesn't require monthly subscriptions, being online only or I-lok!

Thanks Meng. I wish you guys the best of luck in this and looking forward to seeing where this goes. I'm being carefully optimistic at this point but would love to see Sonar return to where it was when it got closed down. It had the best development of any DAW out there, was constantly adding and patching every month while coming up with innovative ideas to further keep itself at the height of new technology and workflow. I'd love to see that trend continue and get better.

"will not need to spend any money to cross-over/cross-grade to the future flagship product." Uh I don't think this should be too much of a concern. The way the posts were going after the apparent demise in the nature of: woulda/coulda/shoulda, I am suuuure the majority here are ready to put their money where their mouth was, and support the product to the best of their ability to try and avoid something like this happening again. I know I am. Good news. salsa

Meng and Bandlab.. I appreciate knowing that Sonar has a new home in your product suite. I am happy that Noel is a member of the team, because he has a vision I believe, to be the best for my needs. Thank you Noel for continuing on. I hope that as you move forward with Sonar, its development continues down the path that meets and exceeds my needs - because the version you have now in your hands, has provided such an exceptional value for me. If Noel believes in the future of the product, whatever it may be, I am in. AND Congradulations!! Take care, Lance
