When I got the news that Cakewalk was having it’s doors closed I was very saddened...I’ve been using it from the beginning. That was so long ago I don’t even remember what the recording software used to be called. Anyway, when I got the news I immediately unplugged my DAW from the network to prevent any possible issues with Windows and driver updates. My plan was to finish my current project and then move on to another DAW.
I’m very excited and hopeful that I’ll soon be able to plug my DAW back into the network and start planning new projects with “SONAR” again.
THANK YOU!😀

YYYEEESSSSSS !!! . . . oh yeah ! Somehow, deep down I knew that coding of this quality couldn't just slowly fade away. I am so pleased to hear about the continuance of my FAV DAW, and equally excited to hear Noel and Ben are still involved. Cakewalk was the only DAW I used since the early floppy 1990's . . . with the news of the demise, I purchased Cubase. There are a lot of things I like about Cubase. So now, I will haunt the Cakewalk "Features and Ideas" forum to encourage and bring the best of Cubase into the Sonar / Bandlab rebirth . . . the DAW to rule all DAWS.
Cakewalk by Bandlab, Cubase, RME Babyface Pro, Intel i7 3770K @3.5Ghz, Asus P8Z77-VPro/Thunderbolt, 32GB DDR3 RAM, GeForce GTX 660 Ti, 250 GB OS SSD, 2TB HDD samples, Win 10 Pro 64 bit, backed up by Macrium Reflect, Novation Impulse 61 Midi Key Controller, Tannoy Active Near Field Monitors, Guitars by Vantage, Gibson, Yamaki and Ovation.

Thank you for the update, and I am delighted to hear you are taking on sonar cakewalk, as I am a long time user, and was gutted to hear that Gibson were shutting it down. Can’t wait to see how the future of Cakewalk/ Sonar goes and hope to be part of it..

Reading this news makes me extremely happy. Thank you for adopting this plan for SONAR! My only concern is whether all of the add-ons that come with or that can be purchased for SONAR will still function and be supported. SONAR has so many little parts that it's hard to imagine how they'll keep it all intact. If they do, I will salute their miracle makers for doing so. :)

Welcome, Meng! As a 33 year user of Cakewalk products, this has taken quite a load off my mind. Too bad it didn't happen three weeks ago. In that time I managed to spend about $800 to find out that I can't use Reaper, Live or Studio One. Knowing that SONAR (or whatever you end up naming it) will be around for a while. John

Thank you Meng for taking the time to speak with us. It is gratifying to know that the products we love will be in good hands of people who understand the value of long time faithful users. Adding some of the great personnel like Noel and Ben will indeed go a long way to sustaining one of the best daws on the market presently. The fact that they continued to support us eventhough they knew the status of the product was in limbo says a great deal about their characters indeed. I knew there would be people like yourselves out there somewhere who would be smart enough to realize the value of this great daw and its fine user base. As a user since the '80s, I look forward to being a part of the next generation of Sonar (Cakewalk) products. Thank you again.

Hi Meng This is excellent news and I’m delighted to see that Noel and Ben will be involved in future development. Like many other users, I considered switching to alternative software but decided to stick with Sonar Platinum as I consider it to be the best DAW available. Sonar has a knowledgeable and passionate userbase, many of whom frequent these forums in order to help less experienced users get the best from their music and I’m certain that this will continue under BandLab Technologies ownership. Respect to all those who remained with Sonar, without such support who knows what would have happened. This morning, I shall raise a glass (probably a mug of tea) to everyone involved.

HI:) Welcome Meng:) Very Great News:) Perhaps now I am finally able to change my type fault in my nickname?? Just a joke, but it was never possible to change it... So, now that I'm firm to work with Studio One and Cubase, I decided last week to switch over to Studio One in the next weeks. I installed it in the Studio PC and wanted to configure it this weekend! (Both DAWs are on my Home PC for testing and learning) But now these news do change it all!! The best of all, I can work on with AZSlow and BCR! (Hopefully) I was very unhappy without on the other DAWs and have problems with my right hand cause working too much with the mouse:( What I learned on the other DAWs and I'm missing in Sonar: 1. Zero Latency Monitoring or Hardware Monitoring on both DAWs! 2. The Project View in S1, which is incredible with it's 12th Octave Analyser and K Metering, very great! 3. Staff and Midi Editing in Cubase! I love the new PRV in Sonar, but the possibilities for Midi in Cubase are insane! So just see this as my Wishes for the future;) I would be very happy to work on in Sonar the next years and would be glad to help improve Sonar with perhaps some crazy ideas for it.... Thank you a lot for buying Cakewalk! Bassman.

Sylvan Most excellent. SONAR is simply the best. This is fact. Just like water is wet. Fire is hot. SONAR is the king of DAWs. I am so excited that resuscitation efforts have proved successful. Now my studio Battlefrost Productions will proudly build our entire workflow around SONAR once again, and we will be bold and proud to let everyone know about it.
Please Meng, have Sylvan be our Dan Worrall?

Cactus Music Funny, yesterday I notice how this forum was just at a all time low for posts and participants. I've taken to posting questions in Software because that's been the only active sub forum. There seems to be about 5 of us left here yesterday and I was seriously thinking of giving up on this forum myself . Look at all the people replying to this thread. Most I don't recognize as regulars. So we hit bottom yesterday and here we go again, it's all uphill from here. I can just see all those defectors returning now :)
This news has really awakened the masses, and in a good way I have felt discouraged and sad when coming to the forum the past weeks. But I just couldn't leave. Now I'm glad I stuck around, because it is coming back to life again it seems And the FSF will live on

Hello Meng and thank you for this update as this is great news indeed, having been a Sonar user since 2004!!! Having just been through a “year of uncertainty hell” while my organisation restructured my department and finally becoming redundant yesterday, which was quite an emotional experience after many years, this news made my “bloody day”! It also gives me hope for the future and reiterates a saying “when one door closes, another opens” – you just have to look for it! Considering the history of Cakewalk and recent financial challenges, it makes perfect sense to me why this outcome would seem to be the best in that, Cakewalk as a company hasn’t been purchased but rather the IP, its core products because in this way Cakewalk’s core strengths, such as Sonar, can truly live on and allowed to flourish but at the same time, be freed from being pinned to legacy difficulties. I’m really glad to see Noel and Ben being taken on into the new order because this gives me the confidence that Sonar will be developed in continuation with its original values and visions going forward. For the record, this is exactly why, while I looked at other DAWs in case it all went “pear-shaped “, I’ve stuck with using Sonar and also not bolted from this forum. The future is bright, the future is “Sonar Re-Imagined” so long live Cakewalk and the legacy which is to be SONAR . . .

meng Hello everyone :-)
I hope you don't mind me jumping in and writing a note to everyone here. The positive messages (with many questions of course!) have been really kind and I believe I speak for everyone on the BandLab team in saying thank you. This community is really incredible and we're honoured to be here and to be part of building the future of Cakewalk and SONAR. We're now in the process of transition and migration of data, trademarks, build processes and other fun administrative things that are necessary when deals like this happen - but it's important for you all to know that we feel that the people in the community (especially the lifetime fans and users of the product) are the reason this incredible product has been around for more than 30 years and will live on many more into the future, so I'll try and stop in personally as much as I can to say hello and make sure questions are answered about the transition where possible. An important thing we strongly believe in is to be as open and transparent as we are able to be - once the product roadmap and more information on our plans are ready within the new establishment, you guys will be the first to know. We'll keep updating the Announcement FAQ as often as we have something to update, but I quickly wanted to address a key concern I saw in and amongst the threads so far and immediately reassure everyone that even though the suite of Cakewalk & SONAR products is now within a new company, our steadfast goal is that former SONAR owners (of all versions) will not need to spend any money to cross-over/cross-grade to the future flagship product. As you can imagine, there is some complexity in this, and I am currently personally working through all of the agreements that have a $ per unit or % dollar amount and negotiating to remove them on the go-forward to ensure this is possible. We only have 2 left to go - they are specific replaceable bits of code and are a nice to have, but hopefully this moves quickly. If it's not something that can be achieved, we'll replace them with either our own technology or work with other partners who want to be part of future releases.
This may be TMI, but I thought it may be valuable for you guys to have some insight on what's already going on outside of changing passwords and rebuilding tables. ---- In other news, I'm also very happy to let you guys know that Noel Borthwick and Ben Staton will be joining our engineering team and we're actively looking for talent to expand our team further (PM if interested!).
I was very fortunate to get to know Noel through the process, and as our conversations developed I was very pleased to find someone whose experience and personal vision on the world of music creation matched the aggressive one that our team has here at BandLab Technologies. It didn't hurt either that he promised to teach me jazz guitar... With Ben, his passion for the project and personal story of joining Cakewalk from having started off as being a superfan really resonated with us and I'm very much looking foward to working with him too. We strongly believe that the best products come from thinking solely about what one would want as a user/consumer - it's a huge advantage to be one yourself. There's a lot more we'll be able to share soon, and reading through all the posts here and around the web - I've seen nothing but love (famous last words ) for Cakewalk, SONAR and the community that has supported it over the years through good times and bad.
I think I'd better not say anymore, we'd rather under-promise and over-deliver, than over-promise and let you guys down. I hope you'll give our team a chance to earn your respect and for us to make great music together for many years to come.
With sincere regards, Meng p.s I will take responsibility for mistakenly coding in "Hello, Bakers"!! It won't happen again...

With sincere regards, Meng p.s I will take responsibility for mistakenly coding in "Hello, Bakers"!! It won't happen again...

RickJP909 Having just been through a “year of uncertainty hell” while my organisation restructured my department and finally becoming redundant yesterday, which was quite an emotional experience after many years, this news made my “bloody day”! It also gives me hope for the future and reiterates a saying “when one door closes, another opens” – you just have to look for it!
Condolences, mate. Here's hoping you'll look back on this as a turn for the better in more than one way.
