I have limited time to use Sonar so during that time I want to make music and not play with colors. Thus I use the standard tungsten theme.
The reason people say the vinyl sounds better is because the music was better. bitflipper I'd like to extend a challenge to theme editor fans: For those of us whose eyesight ain't what it used to be, design a theme that achieves high contrast and text legibility while avoiding garish colors. That's not an easy design goal, since soft colors and high contrast tend to be mutually-exclusive. (See Microsoft's butt-ugly "high contrast" Windows theme for an example of what happens when you favor legibility over everything else.) But I know I'm not the only sight-challenged geezer around here that would appreciate such a contribution.
If I could read what you wrote, I'd agree with it 100%.

The theme editor is a nice idea but I am too busy with projects to be spending time changing the look of Sonar. The Tungsten look is perfect for me and I have made a few changes such as the time line ruler color and the db scale on the track faders which I did in the preferences menu under colors. This was quick and easy to apply to give contrast to those items other than that I leave the Tungsten as is. I think if the theme editor was easier to use and changes could be done quickly perhaps I would spend a few minutes making some changes but the way it is set up now I can't waste time with it because it's too labor intensive.

I am using a yellow theme by outland144k currently, and was also using his green glow before that. I like the dark background with light text and buttons. I'm color bind so I could be completely off. I enjoy the variety and thank the contributors!!! I am concerned how this will work when the bakers make UI changes and I'm using a custom theme... I also think the Mercury theme has a more modern look (3D/depth). I would like to see a dark theme with the Mercury depth and track color options. Just my 2 cents.

I am using Green Glow kindly supplied by Trance Canada. I sometimes go back to my mercury template as I miss the coloured tracks No real problems with Tungsten in its vanilla form though, just prefer the green when working in low light.

Same here, except for some changes (marker color etc.) I made in Preferences Colors page. Mercury's Control Bar looks so beautiful to me.

> The main reason I use my own theme isn't so much the looks, but because it highlights the elements that are most important to me in the various projects I do. That's one of the reasons I've been using custom themes since SONAR X1b. Mercury Theme's colors are not informative enough in several critical locations (like PDF and FX button states and FX bin). EDIT: Forgot to mention that I use my custom theme with Mercury's colored console view strips.

I still use Tungsten primarily, because it is such a great theme, but I also switch to SCook's Tungsten/Mercury mashups, which are quite nice as well. SteveC posted a theme that I like a lot as well. Regards, Dan

I really like the look of the Tungsten theme and some of the user designs that have been created, but I went back to Mercury for the full channel strips. Just easier for me to quickly identify an area. The ability to customize is a good feature that I may try in the future, but I'm too busy creating music at the moment to delve in.

Caa2 It is interesting to think that the general inconvenience of custom clip coloring, as well as the dismissal of automated custom coloring of clips, which was introduced by generation "X" has caused so many to rely on channel strip colors. In my set up the clip colors denote the role in the arrangement. e.g. Blue is percussion, Brown is bass, Yellow is guitar, etc. All my project templates are pre arranged so that the tracks are automatically populated with the appropriate color clips when ever I make a recording. It seems easy and convenient.
Clip colors don't help much in CV

Tried Tungsten for a while, but it was too dark with poor text contrast and I missed channel strip colors. Returned to default Mercury. Producing a theme editor with no documentation, detailed screen shots, or diagrams that correlate the screen items and text to the names and objects used in the theme editor seems counter productive.

FWIW analytics aren't even remotely close to that level of detail. Mostly they're about finding out what processor, memory, operating system, and interface outputs are being used, as well as which plug-ins get inserted the most. This isn't surprising, given how many support issues relate to computers, interfaces, and third-party plug-ins. The analytics are definitely not Big Brother...more like little fourth cousin, twice removed. I'm one of those people who always turns on analytics for locally installed software programs because I believe it makes programs better, and the more people who do it, the better the program will become.

promidi What the Theme editor needs, however, is a function that shows a graphic representation of the GUI, you mouse click on a part of that graphic representation, and it locates that element in the object tree.
That would be huge. Great idea. A true must have! Likely a huge pita for the bakers, though...

Caa2 My custom platinum theme...
Maybe you upload it somewhere so that I can download it? This is the first time I was really attracted by a custom theme posted on this forum. I know others have created and posted quite nice themes, but I never felt I wanted to own them. I really want to own this one. It reminds me of Sonar 2.2 that I used for many years.

I'm using Mercury with minor mods to some icons and a different set of default clip foreground colors that match 10 of the 24 colors available in the track color picker. Wholesale changes in color schemes throw me off, and nothing I've seen (or tried to do myself) beats the subtle color gradient of the 'Mercury Blue' highlights. Probably the most tempting of the alternatives for me would be the 'Polar Blue' theme that keeps this. I prefer lighter themes and cooler colors in general.

The Theme Editor is a highly welcomed feature for me. I didn't creat a whole theme but changed a lot of items, like MSR buttons, FX Rack, Pro Channel pre / post, etc. to make them more distinguishable for me and easier to catch the different states of a button at a glance. Here is an example of what works really well for me: The Console View is my main view during mixing and these little changes already improved my workflow because now I can see faster i.e. which plug-in is enabled, disabled or in focus/selected or which channel is muted, soloed, etc.. Only little things and of course not everyone has the needs to do this, but for me, having the ability to personalise my workspace a bit more, is much appreciated! Best, Klaus
