I'd love to see a gallery of these themes. The SONAR Start Screen would be a great medium for it.

I'm still using the factory default theme. My time spent in the music room is already too limited for my taste. I'd rather spend that time working on music. I like that users are able to upload their own themes and I think its great that we have folks who are willing to put time and effort into contributing their work. But I'm just not big on the look and feel of Fisher-Price style interfaces and most of what I've seen uploaded so far tend to move the needle toward that rather than away from it.

I don't use them. Too much hassle without a lot of payoff in my experience. I would have preferred just having simpler tweakability of the built-in themes color schemes which seems to be what most of the 3rd party themes do anyway.

Wow I'm impressed and surprised at the numerous themes. It'll take a good while to go through all of those for sure. What I'm really looking for is practicality not really beauty. At first I thought Tungsten was better than Mercury and it was in many ways, but I've gone back to Mercury, because overall I can see and find things easier with it. Due to several incompatibilities I was not able to go from 8.5 to X1, X2, or X3 and it wasn't until Platinum when Noel fixed my issues that I went from 8.5 to Platinum. I've been using Platinum for 1.5 years now and I still miss the practicality of the 8.5 theme. If any still have 8.5 installed, you may want to look and see what I mean. It was things like the pan slider was a different color than the volume slider, etc. etc. I could visually quickly find things easier than any version of X and Platinum. So what I'm looking for is something that will make my workflow better. I liked Tungsten until I’d start trying to edit an audio waveform and zooming in, Mercury was far better in this situation. I could see things far better. So if anyone can recommend themes that they think will help me in my quest, I’d really appreciate it. I imagine there are others like me that altered the theme, not necessarily trying to be cool or dazzling, but practical and helpful visually in our workflow. So please chime in.

Still on Mercury because I like channel strip colors and don't want to mix without them. I would love to try a new theme like Tungsten or some customized ones that some of you guys have made that look very cool, but i won't until i can have the colored channel strips.

Caa2 If it the theme editor did not exist I would not even launch SONAR Platinum. The stock color scheme is too difficult for my eyes to view and the dark motif seems distasteful to my muse. As it stands, I only launch Platinum on my laptop sandbox as I am still waiting for the Theme Editor to let me edit all the aspects of the Platinum GUI that it currently does not allow for. In the mean time I continue to record music with SONAR 8.5.2 and find that it is extremely enjoyable to produce music in a long familiar environment. My custom platinum theme...
...reminds me of the custom theme that I currently enjoy using:
I like these color schemes because I find them very easy to read and the warm color tones seem integrated with the warm colors of the wood work in the bright and cheerful studio that I work in. ___________________________________________________________________ Sonar Platinum ∞ - Windows 7 Pro x64 - Canare Star Quad L-4E6S
Have you uploaded your theme into Sonar-Resource? http://forum.cakewalk.com/Sonar-Resources-and-Utilities-m3392713.aspx If so what's the name? I'd like to try your theme. I agree with you totally on the 8.5 theme. I feel like Platinum was a step backward in the clarity and practicality of what we see. (See my post on p.4)

I've gotta go back to my own comment here: is there a centralized gallery of these user themes? I know way back Cake did this sort of thing with other elements of SONAR. It seems a little of a missed opportunity to give users this sort of feature and not take advantage of the ability to show it off. Plus, seeing screenshot of a theme makes it very easy to vet for further exploration.

I respond to visually attractive themes, but there has to be some functionality as well. After Mercury for so long, Tungsten was a very visually cool change. I've tried a couple of themes users have posted and really love the aqua one based on Tungsten...thanks. I too also miss the colour strips in Mercury. Along with others, I don't have the time to muck around with the editor experimenting with variations. It's nice to have the option to do so but like others I'd rather spend it on making music...great though to have those variations made by others...time-saver eye-candy treats - now if someone can do colour strips...

Until today, I was not using the change theme function. I saw Klaus's theme tweek, downloaded it, installed it, and I am in love! Thanks so much Klaus! For me, this was a nearly perfect adjustment to Sonar's colors. (I have "old" eyes) I am encouraged to try some of the other themes which you guys have worked so hard to create.

I use Mercury but change colours here & there. Notably MEDIA Plugins and SYNTH tabs & corresponding track icons. Can see audio/midi/folders immediately. Tried to change colour of FX bin but can't seem to do it - would appreciate help. Also would like to separate PC modules with coloured line between - again could use a hand to find out what to select. Dan

Thanks for the kind words and I'm really glad it's useful for you, too! But keep in mind it's not a complete theme compared to what other users have contributed. I only changed certain elements which were important to me so it doesn't look uniformly in all areas of SONAR. Best, Klaus

I really really want to use the Theme Editor but cannot until they sort out the Strip Colour bug. Why on earth editing any one tiny element of the Mercury theme removes Strip Colour is beyond me. And they don't seem to be showing any sign that they are sorting this out. Using SONAR in large projects without Strip colours is unworkable for me. I want a dark version of Mercury, or a Tungsten with Strip colours. My Rolling Updates subscription ran out after July. I have seen nothing in the updates since then that makes me want to get on board again. Whereas as soon as they sort this issue out my credit card is coming straight out of my pocket.

The theme editor for me takes way too much time and effort...mainly because it just doesn't seem all that easy to get results fairly quickly...like even within an hour. The idea of having a variety of themes to choose from would be great. I use Mercury and like it best. Tungston has good contrast but is too dark for me. But both are very good and I'd be all for Cake coming up with a 1/2 dozen or so along those quality lines. The ones the "users" have created are decent but I find almost like a bag of m and m's... just so colorful or some dominant color that I'm not really into... kinda like a "crazy car" paint color....or a "glowing color". There's one that Caa2....or similar name that is creating one, that I really like and will be eager for them to finish. I'm thinking I might be liking it best almost of all I've seen. It's kinda retro, but relaxing... not dark black with day-glo orange meters and buttons.

I've downloaded some themes and can't figure out how to import them. I’m using 2016.09 Under preferences "Themes" the only thing I see that might work is hitting the edit button to open the theme editor, which I've done. I can import the new themes into the Theme editor, but that still doesn’t allow me to select the theme in Sonar. In the drop down list my only choices are Tungsten and Mercury. The local help file is no help. What am I missing?

Ok, I figured it out. We need to copy the new themes in the Cakewalk Content folder. C:\Cakewalk Content\SONAR Themes I found this info in the Theme Editor help file. I really think this should be put in the Sonar Local documentation, since many are not interested in editing the themes, but are interested in trying out user created themes.
