djwayne- You are on a slippery slope here. Once you have three of four of the most popular guitar programs, you will be sitting in front of your computer after the 400th try at one of the presets and think to yourself....music....wasn't I trying to make music?? :)... I kid you not one night after like 2 hours I was only half way through the program settings trying out sounds and guitars. This is only one of the several programs I have with literally hundreds of amp effects settings and before I even started to dabble into making my own sounds. I ended up trying sounds as a hobby instead of making music :)

EDIT!!! This post is inaccurate. Please refer to post #130. My apologies. Yours truly, Beepster. Hmm... after I registered GR4 LE and set up an NI account it said my upgrade would be $79. At least I THINK LE is what came with the Suite... or maybe I get a special deal because I bought the big box. Oh well... I'll find out next month when I upgrade.

I ended up trying sounds as a hobby instead of making music :) Well, I'm basically going thru the sounds right now to see what's available and I'll choose a few favorites to work with. Guitar Rig 5 has many great sounds, the Tweed and the White amps being my favorites, and I already have it. Pod Farm Free has a few I like too, Pod Farm 2.5 standard version has a Neve pre-amp, that has me curious, and Scuffham has a killer chorus/delay preset that just makes my bass sound like a million bucks. So it's a tough call right now. After I make a decision on what else if anything to buy, I'll settle down with just a handfull of sounds and work with those. They'll become my "goto" sounds. It is nice though to have lots of options. Some of the sounds inspire me to play and write already. When I hit on a killer sound, I just want to play with it for awhile. This can lead to new songs...The bottom line is I've played my guitars more in the last few days than I have all year, so it's motivating me to play. When I go back and listen to my tracks dry, it's very depressing. So I have no regrets on upgrading my effects options.

Sorry, I haven't really been following this thread too closely but since I just upgraded to Komplete 8 which contains the new GR5 I have to say that it is MUCH improved. I had found myself using mostly Amp3 and Scuffham...occasionally GTR and only rarely using GR4. Now I think ol GR5 is right back there in the hunt. It really is better.

I find that if I get caught up in search mode I get nothing accomplished. You have the right idea there. I also upgraded to the new GR5 pro offer through Cakewalk. I'm glad I did. There is a lot of potential there. I also have Amplitube 3 with most all of the packs metal/hendrix and fender. Not sure if I would need podfarm because I have the HD hardware equivalents. I find myself actually going to that hardware more and more. Mainly because I need to duplicate the sounds live and I don't want to drag a laptop to the gig. It is fun to just sit down and play with this stuff. Take an evening and go through all of the cool sounds you can get.

Slightly OT but I have a quick question about GR 4; How does the guy in the following link have so many more selections thanwhat came with X1? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBTlZb1jMyo Do they sell additional sounds? Thanks, Randy

EDIT!!! This post is inaccurate. Please refer to post #130. My apologies. Yours truly, Beepster. @g_randybrown... The presets from that vid are included in GR4 LE which comes with X1. Did you create a Native Instruments account and register/unlock it? If not you are running the demo which only has a few very basic presets.

EDIT!!! This post is inaccurate. Please refer to post #130. My apologies. Yours truly, Beepster. No... seriously. I used almost every one of those presets using the Guitar Rig that came with X1 after I created my NI account and unlocked it. I played with it for a couple hours. I did not pay them a penny. I'm pretty certain I only have LE. When I first opened GR after I installed X1 I had two or three basic amps and a couple presets and effects. It was the demo version. Once I registered it I got ALL the stuff that guy has in his vid. Perhaps because I bought the X1 Suite I got the full GR4 program but I don't think so. One other thing to note is there have been reports of GR4 not unlocking if you try to update it within a host program like Sonar. GR is a standalone software so you open it by itself (Run As Administrator) THEN do your upgrade/unlock. That will load all the extra goodies.

Doesn't matter, I've got GR5 now and I have ALL the goodies !! Including the Van 51 amp !! There's sooo much cool stuff in this program it's ridiculous, and I still haven't hit it all !! It takes a while to go thru a warehouse full of amps, cabinets, effects, mics....

In my GR4 LE, I only have two amps. That was enough to get me to try the GR5 demo. Once I tried the GR5 demo and did a few with and without tests on my tracks, I had no choice...I had to have it.

EDIT!!! This post is inaccurate. Please refer to post #130. My apologies. Yours truly, Beepster. I am EXTREMELY interested in the Van 51 model. The early 5150s are pretty much my favorite amp ever made. The GR5 model is supposed to be very very good. But I was just letting g_randybrown that he may have access to all those guitar sounds in the vid. You, my friend, are certainly doing much better than I in GR terms. I should be able to upgrade in a month. I can't wait. :-)

Even my D-18 sounds good in the Van 51 amp. The "Slight Crunch" preset does wonders for the D-18.

EDIT!!! This post is inaccurate. Please refer to post #130. My apologies. Yours truly, Beepster. @djwayne... did you create an NI account when you were using GR4 LE? That is the only way to unlock the extra content. If you didn't... I hate to tell ya but I think you might have been able to upgrade to GR5 for $80 instead of $100. Actually I'm starting to think that the LE version I'm talking about may have been the "DEMO" version with only a few amps and when I registered/upgraded they gave me GR 4 PRO (I did not pay anything for the upgrade). Ya'll should look into that because if you can get those extra amps, effects and discounts for free... well, I'm sure you'd want to. But again I may have just gotten the the extras with the X1 Suite. I really don't think I did though. Food for thought.

I have no idea what kind of deal you got...I've had a Native Instrument account for about 8-10 years now as I had the Symphonic Orchestra and Kompakt programs for many years now. I registered my GR4 LE and it still didn't work right. I downloaded the 4.2 update and then I was able to access two amps. I then downloaded the trial version of GR5 and bought it shortly therafter. I have no idea what you got, or what the circumstances of the deal you got are, but I was only offered the UPGRADE package for $99. I was NOT eligible for the $79 update. So will you quit hounding me about this lousy stinking twenty dollars ???????? Street price of GR5 is $199. That's what I'd have to pay if I had any other daw. So I saved $100 !!!!!! If you can get it for $79 well then good for you. But that's not the deal being offered to X1 Producer owners. You're muddying up the water with mis-information.

EDIT!!! This post is inaccurate. Please refer to post #130. My apologies. Yours truly, Beepster. I wasn't hounding you. I'm just saying that the version that came with my retail package let me get access to ALL of the amps in that vid for free. I'm trying to let people know that they may indeed have access to far more content than they currently have. It was a bit of a weird process that others on the net have had problems with and ended up thinking that those basic amps were all they had access to. I would have thought the same thing too if it hadn't have been for threads on other sites about this exact issue. g_randybrown asked SPECIFICALLY where that content was and I gave him an answer based on my experience. Seriously man... not trying to give you or anyone else a hard time. Just trying to help people get some extra toys to play with. Peace.

I'm currently trying to finish my first little experiment which is all about just getting my work flow going (it's all loops I'm just dragging and screwing around with in the TV). It's just about done. Tomorrow I have doctor type stuff happening and if I'm feeling okay after that I have to yank my PCI i/o out and install my new box and test it. Then I move onto my little blues song test. I'm just trying to methodically work through the tuts and manuals and when I figure something out exploring it as much as I can. Essentially I don't really have any huge need to play around with the demo as I have some pretty decent amp settings for what I'll be doing before I do the upgrade to GR5. I think by the time I need the 51 I'll own the full version anyway. The "Jump" amp is suitable for now. Cheers.

Oh... I do. I just don't have time to play with it yet. To download and install the demo on my big system would eat up valuable learning time and my current version is more than capable of handling the simple tasks I need for now. I'm just fleshing out workflow stuff and learning all the fancy things I can (and cannot) do with X1. I'll have the full version of GR5 soon enough. If anything I'm a patient fella'. :-)

1,300 views in just a few days ?? That shows that there is a lot of interest in guitar effects and amp simulator programs. Getting Guitar Rig setup and going took a bit of doing for me, but it paid off with a tremendous program. At first it didn't want to work at all, but after I downloaded the 4.2 update, I was on my way. I had to take a break from it as yesterday my ears were burnt out and today I'm dealing with severe cramp in my left hand, so I could only practice for about 45 minutes today before I had to quit.

Are you sure you're not getting kickbacks from Native Instruments? ;) Nope, no kickbacks, I am not a salesman for them at all. Just a user of their products. I don't make ten cents if you buy or not buy. I don't work for Cakewalk either and have no problem talking up their products as well. I'm semi-retired, and making music is my hobby...writing, recording, mixing, ....

Weird since mine shows Guitar Rig 4 with no sign of it being a light edition (no LE)...plus under license it states "Full"

The one that came with X1 on my computer wouldn't work right at all and I upgraded to GR4.2. On my computer it also states that it's a full version...but it only has two guitar amps and one bass amp. The exact same program in my account at Native Instruments states that it's a Guitar Rig 4 LE. GR5 has 17 guitar amps, and one bass amp.
