It's obvious to me I need to upgrade I just thought that it was strange that it showed the word "full" under license....but I guess that means I have a full LE version...as opposed to a partial LE version
Anyway, I've found 3 of the models very useful but to go from 2 amps to 17 has got to be worth $99.

If you go to the product information page about Sonar X1 Producer, it states that it comes with Guitar Rig 4 LE....

http://www.cakewalk.com/products/SONAR/X1-Producer/feature.aspx/Effects-in-X1-Producer

Is the upgrade to GR5 worth $99 bucks ?? To me it is, I think it's a bargain for what you get. You get a boatload of amps, cabinets, effects, mics, in a very neat and orderly layout. It has a very powerful save and search engine so you can easily save or find your favorite presets. Will this make my recordings sound better ?? You betcha !!

Here's the response I got from Native Instruments to my e-mail about the situation...

Thank you for contacting Native Instruments!

You purchased the right product - the update is only available for owners of a
prior full (!) version of GUITAR RIG, but not for owners of GUITAR RIG LE (LE =
light edition); GUITAR RIG LE customers need the Upgrade.

If you have any more questions please don´t hesitate to contact us via this E-Mail!

Best regards,
Andre, Native Instruments Support Team

Next time I fire up the system I'll try to make a list of everything I got. I swear I managed to get the sounds the guy in the vid does. IIRC it was using the three amps in combination with the different cabs and effects to make it do all that. But really... if you have the cash just grab GR5. I haven't even tried it yet but I KNOW it's more than worth it from all the user demos and reviews out there on the intertubes. Cheers.

I just spent about an hour and a half just reading the component section in the manual, which explains each component in Guitar Rig 5. This program has multiple units for just about everything. It really gives you a full palete on which to choose from. I still haven't tried out everything as there's so much to try out !!...

The loop machine will record your loops and you can export it as a wav file.

It has a sequencer built in.

It has a step sequencer built in.

It's got a whole slew of chorus, reverbs, delays, tape echo, filters, modulators, distortions, wah-wah's, flangers, you name it.

It's a monster program !!

So download the demo, it doesn't cost you a penny and you can play with it for as long as you want just restart it every 30 minutes. You can't save any settings, but you sure can hear what it sounds like, and see for yourself how well it performs.

Well, that's a problem too. :( I live in the country and can't even get DSL, let alone high speed. I'm stuck on a 3G wireless thingy that barely connects half the time.

Moving to KC in a couple months. Can't wait to get high speed then.

HeatherHaze - I use both GuitarRig 5 and PodFarm. They are both great. I tend to go for PodFarm tones first at the moment but I get great results from GuitarRig as well. The settings and options for both are astounding.

Make sure you become acquainted with the "HI" button in the top right next to the Native Instruments logo. It makes a big difference in the sound from my experience.

I'm gonna get flamed, but G5pro,is hardly any better than Player IMO[I recently bought it],especially Hi Gain, and for that Amplitube has got it beat after months of thinking they were both only OK.

For the most instantly usable amp sim distortion, the FREE KUASSA AmplificationLite is one of the best, but Nothing, but Nothing beats an ole re-biased/tubed Marshall with Greenbacks, even with a 20 dollar dynamic mic!

The problem with me using a Marshall is that I have to deal with my neighbors. Cranking up a Marshall here is a no no....so I have to depend on simulations.

D'oh! I didn't realize that it was Craig who wrote that. I have the vids and actually did see that section on amp sims but it's a lot easier to have a written description while I work instead of stopping/starting a vid all the time. I wonder how many of the video sections he has written articles for. Gonna have to scour SOS for all his stuff at some point. Thanks again.

Heather, Interesting comment. People either say Amplitube is too dull and bassy or else that it is warmer than GR—depending on that person's perspective. GR has a lot of biting possibilities, but I have founds some great presets and also created some that I use often. I only like about 10% of the presets, but the components and capabilities are all there. Keep in mind that I do fairly organic music, so I my electric guitar parts are not too crazy: just tubed-up Strats and such.

It didn't take long at all for me to make my D-18 sound like a million bucks !! Once I did the A/B test, I was hooked. I don't know how I got by without it !!

What settings make your acoustic sound good & natural. I've only got it to sound like electrics. My Deluxe Reverb makes my acoustic sound fabulous & I'd love to copy something like that on pre-recorded tracks.

Re:I just bought Guitar Rig 5 Pro.... 2012/06/24 20:16:52 (permalink)
Well the Jazz or the White amps have some clean settings that sound pretty good. I'm not sure what you're looking for but I'll tell you what I did. I made a simple 12 bar recording of my acoustic guitar and looped it, them demo'd ALL the amps and their respective presets. When I found something I liked, I give it a 5 star rating so I could come back and find it again, or write it down in a note pad.  Once you find something in the ballpark of what you're looking for, start tweaking the knobs  on the amps, cabinets and effects in the preset's rack. Remember the preset is only a starting point and it's up to you to hone in on the sound YOU want. Maybe it sounds like a lot of work, but trial and error will pay off in the long run, because you'll get a good feel for what is there.

Sometimes I'll just pick out an amp like the Tweedman, and change the amp's settings to get a clean sound. Just because an amp's preset sounds distorted, you can adjust that to get a clean sound. So in reality, you really have to spend some time just playing around and experimenting. There's no short cut....but you'll get out what you put into it.

You also need to familiarize yourself with the various effects components so that you can build your own rack with the effects you like the most. Ya it's gonna take some time.

But I'll tell ya what, I'm getting some really great clean sounds by just using Cakewalk's Pro Channel..... EQ, Compressor, & Concrete Limiter, and BAM, you get a great clean sound with just that.

I'd also suggest you watch Cakewalk's webinar with Seth and Brandon,..they have a section in there about mixing a clean acoustic guitar that sounds great with the Pro Channel. Goto this link...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rAwiLvmshs&feature=youtu.be

and then goto the 5:50 minute spot to see how they mix the acoustic guitar with Pro Channel...

Heya, DJwayne. How are ya? I'm starting to get a little frustrated with GR4 as far as squashed sounds and endlessly trying to dial stuff in. I'm starting to reconsider my upgrade to GR5 as the money may be better spent elsewhere. Did you find things got a little more realistic sounding after the upgrade in comparison to GR4? Seriously it sounded great in some not so great speakers. Once I put it through my headphones... squashorama. I may be screwing something up or maybe the GR4 content isn't meant to do what I want but I'm just not getting any realism out of this and at least a reasonable level of realism for my guitar tracks is beyond imperative. Thanks.

The best thing I can tell ya is to download the Guitar Rig 5 demo and see for yourself. Yes you'll have to spend some time , but that's the dues you must pay. GR5 is way better than GR4. Lots more stuff to chose from. But you have to see it for yourself if it will do what you want. the GR5 demo gives you access to the whole program for 30 minutes at a time. You can't save settings but you can get an idea of what the program offers.

My opinion ?? Bang for the buck is tremendous.

OK OK,I'm a little bit[lot?] more sold on the upgrade to GR5 Pro,I just tracked some lead,D.I to my lappy[way lower thru latency with ASIO4all believe it or not],and even though, the sustain is NOTHING like my Marshall Master Vol from 83[even quiet]with 25w celestions, the lead is a keeper, due to not needing ANY EQ,or other effects, through to final mix, first time ever, not bad!

@bob... Well that's encouraging. You find it significantly more realistic than GR4? Like I said I was having a real hard time dialing in a decent tone. I did figure out it's better to have the distortion modules BEFORE the amp module as well as tossing one of the compressors into the mix but even then it was kind of "meh". I'm hoping GR5 will produce clearer, airier sounding tones with some of the other amp models. I'm particularly interested in the Hi Watt, 5150 and Rectifier sims. However if it's not gonna do what I want then I'd rather spend the money on a Yamaha THR10. Cheers.

Yes, there is a significant different in tone between gr4 and gr5. gr4 is more of an "effect box" but not producing realistic tones.

gr5 gives you realistic natural tones that seat well in mixes in general.

not the harsh crap from gr4.

try the demo, you should find some settings you like

Hey Beep,I wouldn't say it's a billion times better no,but it's definitely more usable and way way more tweakable than G4 LE definitely, but it's still Guitar Rig.

For instance the full version of Amplitube Metal, still has gutsier heavy sounds, but G5 pro,is certainly better than I first thought after downloading it,also, where are you people getting it for 79 dollars?,it was a 99 dollar [USD} for me to go from G5 Player,to Pro.

I'm very into real amps, but this solo, just sits really well in a mix, which has not happened till now, with leads, only rhythm, and then I usually use a few diff tracks together[different performances].
