I have zero knowledge when it comes to this product. Right now It's $79 instead of $200 and I'm tempted since I failed to get on with Studio One or Reaper and I have lots of plug-ins.

Will I have buyers remorse or is this a no brainer?

Hard to say.
I think it's a useful approach for mixing audio tracks. I wouldn't use it for my normal projects using multiple vi's, audio+ midi, 3rd party plugins or automation.
Although people want it to be I don't think that's was ever intended to be a full blown daw.

Apparently the emails for upgrades will go out next month ...
They are on the ST 3 timeline....

I will not dispute that in today's vernacular a DAW should have unlimited buses but when I was a pup and used 24 track ADATs my console only had 4 buses (not including the master). I seemed to get by with that.

TBH, in SONAR I rarely have more than 8 buses (including the master).

Judicious planning and use of busses is a GOOD thing.  If you really need more then 8 I think you
are "stetching"...while more then 8 can be handy...you can get buy with 8 and that should do the
job,  "Drums" "Guitars" "Lead Vocal(s)" "BG Vocal(s)" "Bass" "Keys" ....there's usually not more then that...and
that still leaves 2 busses free...but I guess if you were doing a lot of "sub-grouping" you could
Use more...

I can easily get by with 8 without a hassle...

Mixbus isn't the "BE ALL - END ALL" of DAW's...it's a tool...just like every other DAW...
The thing that sets it apart is the "sound" and that DOES set it apart IMO...

Just to make sure I am correct, Mix Bus is just imitating a console only. There are NO virtual Instruments at all included and very few plug-ins included or do they all have to be purchased. Besides the on board EQ and Compressor, the rest have to be purchased?

Is it that we can, however, use our own VST plug-ins and instruments with MixBus?

Is this correct?

Mixbus 3 is now a DAW in the sense that you can use 3rd party VSTs and VSTis in it.

They sell (separately) plugs that can be used in their DAW or any DAW that supports the LV2 standard.

Basically all the plugins that Mixbus sells are already in the DAW when you install it.
Buying them just allows you to "Unlock" them....so you can use them.

3rd part VST's are supported...and NOW 3rd Party VSTi's are supported...
and it's now 64 bit, where it was only 32 bit before...

Can I add an analogue meter to my tracks in Sonar? I want a k-14 level meter and that stereo correlation meter as well.

PSP TripleMeters will let you add this to your Sonar Channels...or there are plenty of 3rd Party
alternative meters out there...

cclarry,

PSP used to have a free version of their VU Meter called PSP Vintage Meter. I still use it with Sonar X3. They no longer give it away free, but have packaged it as three meters in on and now call it, "PSP TripleMeter"

I's not made public, however, you can still obtain the FREE PSP vintage Meter from this link I received from PSPAudio  PSP Vintage Meter
I know it works in Sonar X3 and before, but I haven't tried it in the newer version of Sonar for 2015.

I hope this helps

I'm not sure what problems people are having, but I used Ardour 4 for a couple of months just to see what may be in the new MB3 and it was pretty stable. That was just a beta windows version from Ardour. I would expect Harrison to have made it better, but I guess we'll see.

I'm intrigued but cautiously hesitant to buy into the hype. I bit on the previous version and my conclusion was that it was a stripped down version of Ardour with a very nice saturation plug-in. The workflow to take advantage of this plug never seemed worth it to me.  Initial glance at this still seems to indicate a 64-bit stripped down version of Ardour with interface tweaks and a nice saturation plug. It just still seems like one could simply dig through saturation plugs until a pleasing one was found. I suppose $40 isn't that big of a risk, but $39 didn't seem like a big deal either until the product felt useless. In so ways, full version of Ardour might provide more bang for buck. Maybe one day I will hear something that sounds so overwhelmingly better in terms of sound that blows me away, but I sometimes supect placebo effect.

I hope somebody gives a review pretty soon. I have to admit that the console paradigm is what's got me interested. I live in console view with Sonar and never bother looking at the track view for more than 1 track at a time.

I'll use it more I'm sure but it besides a few new features it reminded me of the old version.

The custom meter feature in ardour 4 is nice. I use ARC 2 and with the custom meter I can place the metering before ARC 2.

I look at it as the full version of Ardour with the added features and function of Harrison Mixbus. If nothing else, for $40 you get some very nice console emulation, eq's, comps and tape sims.

Judging from their other XT plugins I'd say it will be decent...

The XT-LC Lookahead Compressor is a compressor that works when others won't. Its lookahead design, with super-fast attack and release properties, makes it able to do things that a regular compressor can't match. Zero-History(tm) release time allows the XT-LC to be used aggressively on very dynamic sources (such as acoustic guitar) while still maintaining a transparent release character.
The XT-LC Lookahead Compressor features very simple controls: Threshold, Ratio, Knee, and Makeup. But don't let the simplicity fool you. This is a very powerful tool for professionals that have tried everything else.

Features:
  • Advanced "lookahead" compressor algorithm.
  • Ulta-fast attack and release times with Zero-History(tm) release.
  • Calibrated Input & Gain Reduction meters
  • Threshold control
  • Ratio control
  • Knee control
  • Makeup Gain control
  • Momentary Bypass switch

Re: Mixbus 3 is coming online today (7/7/2015) 2015/07/08 22:39:14 (permalink)
I just noticed something else on the Harrison website:

The initial release of Mixbus v3 is shipping with control-surface protocols disabled.
An upcoming release will re-enable the control protocols, which include MIDI controllers, Mackie fader protocols, and OSC ethernet control.

Guess I need to give them a call Thursday because if I can't use a MIDI controller (keyboard) it would not be very use full for me. I am also going to ask about the existing plugins I have already purchased, will they work with the 64bit version or is that an additional cost.

I do think I will pass on the extra $60 for xt-lc comp. I just can't imagine that I don't already have something similar already...

Purrrfect Audio DAW here.  Wow!...
