Eratu,

Glad that was helpful.  In the mean time (until a solution arrives that is), just keep track of which server has which type of FabFilter in it (i.e. Server 1 = Volcano, Server 2 = Simpleton, etc).  Is not a very elegant solution, but at least it should get you by for now.  The only problem is that this method will not work with previous projects, so that's a drag.

I'm glad Joao is that dedicated to his product.  That really says a lot.  Hope he can arrive at a safe solution that won't break JBridge's current compatibility with other plugins.  Anyways, I wish you the best of luck that this issue will be resolved soon Eratu.  By the way, have you installed the rest of your plugins yet?  Are they working under Bitbridge 2.0?

YOu probably have doen this already with respect to Dim Pro but just in case you haven't.

Did you edit the registry (ie make sure all references to Dim Pro were deleted) when you uninstalled before reinstalling?

Hi mudgel, thanks for the suggestion! I did NOT edit the registry after I uninstalled. It's possible that would have helped, I have no idea. However, I did use Cakewalk's uninstall procedure and I assumed it cleaned up after itself. An assumption that could be wrong, of course.

This is what I DID do: After every time I re-installed, I did check the registry to make sure the directory was correct. And each time it WAS correct. I even moved content around, changed the registry to the new directory, then tested, then changed everything back, tested, then uninstalled, then reinstalled, checked the directory and registry entries and they were correct again. So I think in a roundabout way I covered this base that you are suggesting. I had checked the registry many times during the whole process. But just not in between installations. In the end, when I installed (and uninstalled) the 32-bit version of Dim Pro, it worked fine with BitBridge... all the audio files were found. And now, currently, I just have the 32-bit version of the VSTi working without a problem, same directory as before, but just the 32-bit version works. x64 didn't. No strangeness in the registry that I can see, unless there is something else hidden I didn't see. Hope that makes sense.

Did you press F5 to refresh the sample directory in Dimension Pro?

Sometimes it is necesary to delete the program.lst file inside the Dimension Pro Programs folder when moving samples.  Then pressing F5 on the Dimension Pro sample directory to refresh it.  Did you try that?

Jose: What do you think I am, a machine? ;) I'm just moving at a glacial pace here. I just managed to get the ball rolling with the FabFilter plugins. They are some of my bread and butter plugins and I had to get things started.

Jose: EDIT: as for your F5 suggestion in your next post, Yes, I did hit F5. Also, when I uninstalled, I made sure the Dim Pro directories were deleted, which would have deleted the program.lst file. Then I would re-install completely fresh (unless there was some deep dark registry entry that I didn't know about)... then I would verify the registry entries after installation.

Next up, I will be installing some Camel Audio plugins...

BTW, I just sent payment to the JBridge guy -- it was only 14.99 EUR and I recommend that every x64 user out there support this guy. We need a third party working on bridging technology. Plus, it integrates beautifully in Sonar 8.5.1 x64! A must-purchase, in my opinion.

Thanks for all the detail you are providing. I'm awaiting a new x64 DAW and I've been watching this thread closely to see what software works and what doesn't.  That's a bummer about Dimension Pro.  I'll be fighting with that one myself when I get it, as well as maybe the x64 version of Rapture.  I hope Rapture works well, as I use that one much more often.

I will definitely be buying JBridge as well myself.  I've already read that others have had to use it to get JamStix working properly, and I may come across other plugins that I'll need to use it for.

They call 'em fingers, but I've never seen 'em fing.

UPDATE from FabFilter:

Yay!!!! The ball is moving forward!!! See below....

Hi James,

Thanks for this information! We're starting work on the 64bit versions of our plug-ins soon, so that should solve these problems...

In the mean time, we will try to test with BitBridge and JBridge ourselves, and see what might be causing these problems... We'll keep you updated!

Cheers,
Floris (FabFilter)

Good news indeed. Let's hope they move to x64 right away. :)

Nice!

I wish all plugin developers were as responsive as these guys.  That's awesome!

It's companies like these that should get our support.

Update:

Just heard back from Cakewalk re: FabFilter so we've got some positive momentum going. Good people to deal with, I'm feeling reassured that between FabFilter, Cakewalk and JBridge we'll get the FabFilter situation sorted out. :)

Hats off to the quick and professional responses from all these guys. Again, I can't agree more, that we need to support companies like these.

eratu, it might be worthwhile to post on the Cakewalk Intstruments forum about your woes with Dimension; I looked up Rene, the programmer, and he has recent posts there. Also you could send him a PM. Hopefully he will have some ideas for you.

Thanks, Phoenix! I will definitely be looking more into it! For now, at least, I have Dim Pro 32-bit up and running fine with BitBridge.

UPDATE:

Now I'm up and running with all the Camel Audio plugins. Seem to work just fine with BitBridge 2.0 so far. :)

Update:

Another casualty in the road to x64 bliss: Sylenth1 2.2 x64 is not working. Appears this is a known problem, but no solution yet. I understand Lennard is working on this but I have not heard back from him yet. Just sent an email query. I hope he responds soon.

So for now, I have to revert to the 32-bit version, which does appear to be working with BitBridge 2.0.

This transition to x64 continues to have challenges. :)

Update:

Just installed Arturia CS-80V2 and Moog Modular V 2.5 -- the new versions that require the Syncrosoft copy protection.

I really hate having to install Syncrosoft on here, but I can't live without at least the CS-80V... that's one of my favorite plugins of all time, and with version 2 they added some nice features that I want to use.... but unfortunately, they require Syncrosoft. :( Anyway, I decided to take the plunge and see what would happen.

In two words: It works.

At least so far.

Both plugins seem to work fine under BitBridge 2.0, and they load up with no problems in Sonar 8.5.1 x64, even with the Syncrosoft dongle. :)

Very cool... checking this out now... could be that I have to run Sonar x64 in Administrator mode.... that would explain why I couldn't access the x64 VSTi. Hmmmmm... This may be the solution. Will try this later... but will post links here for reference:

http://www.cakewalk.com/s...eader.aspx?ID=20080921

And then I just read this:

http://www.cakewalk.com/s...eader.aspx?ID=20081008

At the bottom is says this:

"Note:If you have your Multisamples folder set to any directory other than the default installation path you will need to move it as well into Dimension Pro's installation folder or the synth will fail to load programs correctly."

Now that is just not nice, if you ask me. I don't like to have my samples on the app drive, especially when it gives me the option to NOT have it on the app drive. Very annoying, confusing and ... well, I'll just shut up right there for now.

Basically, from what I'm reading, it looks like the solution to my Dim Pro x64 problem is:

1) Run Sonar 8.5.1 x64 as administrator
2) Make sure multisample content is located in default directory of C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro

For now, I'm going to keep Dim Pro as the 32-bit version and will try again later, but it looks like the above two steps should make the x64 version work. :)

Thanks to brammer and Tyacko for the heads up as to the right direction to look for a solution to this problem.

Nope, it's totally standard so far, with the small exception that I changed the "power plan" to "high performance". I've been a little surprised to see how stable and uncluttered it feels as-is. I'm not worrying about the thread parking issue yet either, although I will say, I have noticed that under light load, Win 7 does seem to shut down cores, or perhaps appears to shuffle threads around, etc. However, it hasn't had any negative impact on anything I've tried. Once I set up a big session with tons of tracks and plugins, I'll see if anything strange happens. Smooth sailing so far, except for the plugin issues I've mentioned above.

And then I just read this:

    http://www.cakewalk.com/support/kb/reader.aspx?ID=20081008

At the bottom is says this:

"Note:If you have your Multisamples folder set to any directory other than the default installation path you will need to move it as well

into Dimension Pro's installation folder or the synth will fail to load programs correctly."

Doesn't "Dimension Pro's installation folder" mean "whichever folder was specified during installation"? I have my Multisamples folder on a different drive; always have, and DimPro x64 is working here.
Now, that Run as Administrator thing--I think that may be the key, or certainly a big part of the solution. Thinking back to when I first loaded Win7 RC x64 I recall I got "synth is not correctly installed" until I specified Sonar was to always be "run as administrator".
Anyway, try option 1 before resorting to option 2.

LOL! Not yet, my friend. I'm trying to figure out how to tackle the NI plugins I have. There are some old NI plugins I still use, and I am trying to figure out the best way to install them... and not screw up the newer plugins... while not turning this into a nightmare of installation disks.... :)

I too have DIM Pro x64 working fine with the multisamples on my samples/project drive. Definitely not the default location. I don't know where that advice origonatred but it is clearly wrong.

My previous question about deleting Dim Pro references in the registry was in line with other general recommendations when uninstalling SONAR that all references in the registry be deleted before reinstalling. Clearly there seems to be some shortcomings with the uninstallers for these programs as even Cakewalk suggest the registry clean out when reinstalling a previously failed or corrupted installation

eratu--what NI plugins do you have?
I have Komplete 6 installed, as well as some of the apps from Komplete 5, and going back even further, Spektral Delay and Vokator. I've already used Vokator without problems (via BitBridge; might have even been BitBridge 1.0).
I doubt that installing the older plugins will screw up the newer ones, they don't overwrite each other. Probably a good idea to run the older installers in compatibility mode, although I think on my 2nd Win7 RC install I skipped that bit too, to see if it would work (it seems to have done, AFAIK).

mudgel: good to know... makes me think the real problem was simply admin mode. I'll also double-check the registry the next time I take a stab at it. BTW, are you running Sonar in admin mode?

Phoenix: I have all the way back to who knows when (the first Komplete, Komplete Care and before then), plus tons of NI-based sample libraries, plus Komplete 6 sitting here waiting to be installed. I've already installed Spektral Delay, Vokator and Kontakt 2 and they do seem to be working fine in BitBridge. :) I'm taking it slowly... Kontakt 2, for example had some decent samples that were excluded from Kontakt 3, so I was starting there for Kontakt... will move forward soon.

UPDATE:

Now I have managed to crash Sonar several times... and I think the culprit may be syncrosoft, contrary to my earlier post about success with the Arturia plugins. I will spend some time figuring out what the heck is going on... I have a project file that no longer opens, and even opening it with <shift> (safe mode) I have issues. :( Some combination of plugins is causing a problem....

This is really getting to be too much. Too tired to keep working on it. Update tomorrow....

Aww, that sucks.

My guess is that this will not be your main system for a while :-(

I was hoping you had as much success with 64 bit as I have.  Then again, I don't own even a 1/4 of the number of 3rd party plugins you own.

Hope you have better luck tomorrow my friend :-)

Very funny. Not by a long, long, long, long, long shot. I have some good tools, but there are so many great ones out there that I would eventually like to add to my toolset, it's insane. The FabFilter plugins are killer plugins BTW. They've become critical tools for me. Every last one of them. They sound wonderful, are incredibly easy to use and worth every penny. I don't own their compressor (yet) but I tried the demo and it rocks as well. The FabFilter concept of interface design is exactly where I think great GUI design is headed for next-gen plugins. Try 'em out when you get a chance. "Fab"ulous stuff. :)

Thanks, Jose. Yes, this has been more stressful than anticipated. Last time I tried x64, I think I would have given up by now. The real killer will be NI. If I can't get going with NI, then it's over. Back to 32-bit and I'll be seriously disappointed. But NI seems to be okay so far... unless that's the cause of the crashes. (Don't think it is, though...)

Hey Eratu,

I know you're busy with problems of your own, but could you check this out real quick?

http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=1855659

I wasn't able to repro it, so I'm thinking it's either a W7 or driver issue.

Thanks a bunch my friend.  And sorry for bothering you :-(

Take care!

I haven't deliberately selected "Run in Admin Mode" anywhere. VISTA x64 Ultimate SP2

Unless there's something going on that I'm not aware of. I have disabled UAC.

I basically installed VISTA x64 and started installing DAW type files/programs after that. I also have Open Office (Wanted to keep MS Office 2007 off this mcahine) and Adobe Production Premium CS3. Boy Photoshop & Premiere sure like to run on this machine.
