Good morning sir, please review the last couple of posts - DO NOT start any of the steps I posted until we clear up the matter of what your driver modes is set to in Sonar.

What is your current driver mode set to in Sonar?

Bob

I have already did what you said.  I have launched "setup" of original Roland driver and and the installation green bar went up to c. 80% before it asked to plug in UA-25 USB cable. There was an attempt of automatic installation but it instantly failed "due to change of rules". However the "original driver" installation did not go any further. It stoped at the same point as always. My impression is that the "original driver" is NOT recognizing the device, the "NEXT" button remains grey after I plug edirol in.

Shall I undo "rules"

This was one of the first things he was told to check, and above he seems to say he has done that, although I am not sure of where the above was left.  Maybe he needed to APPLY the change to ASIO mode to then be able to see the it in the devices list?

Yes ASIO is still selected in "DRIVER MODE" <- "PLAYBACK AND RECORDING" <- "AUDIO" <-"PREFERENCES"

OK - yeah it's about 7:25 am here.  Been up since around 4.  I will take a nap again in about 30 minutes for about 2 more hours

OK I just wanted to check on where we stand.  The other poster was talking about just switching modes, and I did not thing that would work as we do not yet have the right drivers in, but since he used to have the same interface I had to check.

Look back at the recent post with a bunch of steps I gave you, for an alternative way to get Windows to stop hijacking the driver installation process.

Go ahead and run through those steps - read them first, and post any questions ahead of running the steps.

OK?  Go ahead - if no questions then go ahead and do the steps and in any case post back,

Bob

I have done it. Hijacking no longer occurs. The driver from Roland site does not recognize the device though.

Good new on the driver installation hijacking - but not so much on the other.

Please tell me exactly WHICH driver you downloaded from the site?

Also, please elaborate on the 'not recognizing the device' message.  Did the driver installation complete?

Please tell me what happened, exactly, during the installation process.

Thanks,

Bob

Is there a driver VERSION that you downloaded?

Also, what kind of port do have this plugged into?  USB 1.1, 2.0, or 3.0?

There are READ ME instructions for this installation.  Did you read them?

Here they are, in case you have not.

Installation * To reinstall or update the driver, refer to "To reinstall."

  1. Start up Windows with all USB cables disconnected. (except for keyboard and mouse)
  2. Exit all applications before you begin the installation.
  3. Double-click the Setup icon.
  4. If a message informs you that "Driver installation must be performed by an administrator," you must log on to Windows as a user whose Account Type is Administrator, and then perform the installation.
  5.  A confirmation screen regarding User Account Control will appear, click [Yes].
  6. The message "UA-25 Driver will be installed on your computer. ---" will appear. Click [Next].
  7. If any other message appears, follow the directions of the message.
  8. Click [Next] to begin installation.
  9. If a dialog box regarding Windows Security appears, click [Install].
  10. The message "Ready to install the driver. ---" will appear.
  11. If any other message appears, follow the directions of the message.
  12. Set the UA-25's ADVANCE switch to the "ON" position.
  13. Use a USB cable to connect the UA-25 to your computer.
  14. The driver will be installed automatically.
  15. When the "Installation has been completed." message appears, installation has been completed.
  16. Click [Close] to close the "Driver Setup" dialog box.
  17. If the "System Settings Change" dialog box appears, click [Yes] to restart Windows.
  18. Refer to "Before you begin," and make the necessary settings for using the UA-25.
  19. You won't be able to use the UA-25 unless you make these settings.
  20. If you are unable to use the UA-25 after connecting it, it's possible that a problem has occurred. Refer to "Troubleshooting."

These instructions came from a Chrome document contained within a folder called Read Me in your driver installation download folder.

SOOOOO - Please tell me what EXACT steps you followed.  If not the ones as above, then PLEASE go back and do the steps that THEY ask you to perform.

Post back and let me know what happens at the end of the installation.

Bob

Did you have the device UNPLUGGED prior to starting Windows  If not, do so, and restart Windows.

Then go back through eacn and every one of the installation instructions exactly, and tell me what happens.

Also, did you make sure the device was UN-Installed prior to doing ANY of this?

Please DETAIL your answers to EACH question above in your next post.

Bob

One more thing.

Just for grins, when you re-run the install, instead of just running it, rich-click on it and Run As Administrator.

Does you user account have administrator privileges?

This is the only information in the installation driver documentation for trouble shooting:

Is the UA-25's ADVANCE switch set to the "ON" position?Set the UA-25's ADVANCE switch to the "ON" position. Are you logged onto Windows with the appropriate user rights? You must log on to Windows as a user whose Account Type is Administrator.
Go into Device Manager and tell me if there is a device appearing for it under Sound Video and Game controllers.

It is not listed because we uninstalled it intentionally.

Question - when the windows driver install thing was taking over, did it give you any chance to specify install location?  or did it just do the install without letting you do anything?

Do you possible have another USB calbe to use to try this again?

Also, how many USB devices do you have plugged into your system?

Lastly, have you tried installation using a different USB port?

1  If you have another USB cable, try installing again (first unplug) and install using a different cable AND port.
2.  If you have any USB devices you can unplug first (except keyboard and mouse) please unplug them too before you re-install with the new cable and port.

After - please let me know if anything different.

I was wondering about the different USB port, because I would imagine the device needs a POWERED USB port.

Different ports can have different setups on computers.

So, hoping things work this time - will look for your post with results,
