Ha! Yeah it always cheers me up to play and sing. Recording? Not so much... That part can actually have the OPPOSITE effect! :-) But sometimes I pick up the guitar and play and sing in to the wee hours.

So...back on the original topic - after reviewing other people's favorites, I ended up buying a couple of songs on Itunes and I plan to download some others. I guess some good could come out of all this.

I bought a few songs by Ona Meyer. I like her style - nice voice, clean but strong backup instrumentation, reminds me a bit of Goldfrapp or Beth Gibbons. I also downloaded a couple of tunes by Cakewalkers who allow their stuff to be downloaded. The songs forum is awesome, full of great songs of every variety to listen to....it's better than anything on TV, that's for sure!

I see that one of mine got mentioned, but I'm kind of embarrased in that I consider it one of my least best. But, there you go. One man's least best is another mans umm.... not least best.

Yes, I remember this one, great song Dean! And awesome name too, "Jeroen van Engelenhoven" That just drips "stage name" :-) One thing I really like about this one is I can't say it sounds "like this". It has a very unique style (to me).

I often combine the two Robby [apart from the singing] - I'll sit noodling away for ages on my guitar searching for new riffs and ideas but I often record what I'm doing.

On quite a few occasions, on listening through such a recording at a later date, something quite innocuous sounding [at the time] has gone on to become the main riff or chord progression of a song.

BTW, while I'm here, I guess I'd mention that your version of 'He ain't Heavy..' with Janet is one of my faves from the forum of late.

Its a Dave Logan, Jeff Hillius, Larry Hansen, and Mark Wessels collab... Movin' Along

ha! Damn guys, I am humbled, I did not expect to be on this list, there are so many really really great folks who post hear, thank you very much, I don't feel that I deserve it, it means more than I can say, really... It's my passion.

The coming release of me "plugged", with others (not by others) will hopefully not dissapoint. I've been working on it, it's a massive colab, and I really hope everone enjoys it, to me it's a very special tune (very country), and there's a cast of others participating, all of whom are absolutely "incredible" musicians. Another 4 weeks or so and it should be soup :-)

Again... I am very humbled, so many really great musicans here. And my favorite of course, which began this post, I would travel to see Tim play and sing, and hopefully one day will be given that opportunity, I would really like a schedule with dates of when and where he's playing. I would love to meet him and buy him a beer.

It is what it is... Robby, I know you told me not to say anything about it here but I'm confused now if you didn't expect to make this list why did you send $10 for me to post something here if it didn't happen?....

Moving on: Here's another of the current crop, not only is he a virtuoso in the area of blowing his own trumpet... as demonstrated earlier in the thread but also a composer arranger of the highest order.

The excellent 'Encounter on the Event Horizon.' by Mr Rolifer is here:

http://www.box.net/shared/s1kux2j98j

But more importantly check out his body of work via the link at the bottom of his post.

Another poster with a great body and also specialising in the more serious side of composition, for those just entering the fray, he needs no introduction to anyone regular for more than a week as he is so prolific, is our very own Mr. Larry, Larry Alexander. (LarryAlex).

Again check his posts for a link to his site which is a veritable mine of inspiration if you are ever stuck for melodic ideas. It would take several weeks to sample all the delights there so be warned. The man is a living legend.

Yo Robby, et al

I agree with above posters concerning Rollifer. His last two posted compositions/projects were superb.

If you are talking pop-rock, I would say virtually anything by Acrobat's supper is quite good. I was particularly taken by the Christmas song, but My Love Will Find You and Steep Hill are strong tunes. Tim's lyrics are very well crafted.

A while back Jerry Gerber posted some classical music done on SONAR that I thought were great compositions, and they also highlighted SONARS orchestral possibilities well. I bought a couple of his CD's and have enjoyed listening to them. If you like that sort of thing, by all means check it out.

Bertski! THAT'S WHY I POSTED THIS THANG MAN!!

I downloaded "cycles of 7" nice... Gave me an immediate soundtrack vibe.

Started off all Damion!! And then lightened up a bit. Quality composition though... There are a few folks here who do this style of music would would REALLY enjoy this! I mean, I don't do this style, but I enjoyed it :-)

Ok, I'm gonna say it, and the problem with listing everything is there are just too dang many!!!!!!

My favorites on the forums to listen to :

Me................. LOL! Sorry, there's too many to list. I just can't do it. I mean dlogan's latest tune sounded awesome, and twisted6s song/video was awesome! Not to mention the "X-Rated song was phenominal!!!!" IMO. Robby, your and Janet's collab on He Ain't Heavy was awesome, Beagle the Reforge me, is awesome! and Inspirational to me, 57Gregy has a song call Grandpa's garden which really hit home for me to listen to and would be real close to number 1, but I have the luxury to listen to everything so I will. Great tune! When it comes to Robomusic's tunes and Guitarhacker's tunes it's simple there just freaking great on what they do! I mean I could go on and on and on...... The problem is I have probably left so many people out it isn't even right... Foxwolfen and Nutty and many many others have stuff I really love to listen to. But as I have always said music ain't a contest.

I WAN'T TO POINT THIS OUT RIGHT NOW SO THERE IS NO MISTAKE ON MY MESSAGE : I don't put people in ORDER or their songs when I listen to songs, EVERYONE who gives me the chance to listen is "#1" on the charts as far as I am concerned!
I think : "Best of the best would probably be a better term for this thread". JMO, music should never be a competition.....

Thank you, thank you! Funny how a topic becomes a lot more fun to read and more valuable when you suddenly see your own name mentioned... And yes, Jeroen van Engelenhoven is a real nice stage name, isn't it? Not easy to forget... once you can remember it...

I (also) really can't (or dare to) say which songs I like best because I think I've listened to about 1 or 2 % of all that's posted here... and I don't want to say a certain song is best while the 'real best song' is still hidden for me in an old topic! Still, what I really liked (like most people here, it seems) were the songs from Acrobat's Supper, specially Black's the thorn, because that was the first I heard of them. Listening to it right now again, to see if it was indeed okay... and yes, it is.

Sonar 8.5 PE, Edirol FA-66, Behringer C-1. All instruments in my songs are VSTi's.

There are many many many good/great songs that have gone up on this forum. There has been a fair share of stuff I didn't care for at all as well.

But in terms of stuff I really enjoyed and would come back to:

jamesg1213 (in his various forms)
rolifer
Dan Barnes
Bill Davies

come to mind. I would love to have a CD of some of these songs, even though in some cases, their genre is not really my primary listening interest. But good work shines regardless of genre.

Best song, I would have no clue. I can't even begin to claim that I have listened to all or even most of what has been posted.

The best song ever on this forum for me was a song titled Doing It My Way. I can't remember who did it except that his last name was Barnes, but there are a couple of Barnes on this forum. It was a totally awesome song with totally awesome instrumentation and the mix was killer. I truely was an absolutely great song and I haven't heard one as good as it was done to date. Not that there aren't alot of great songs on this forum, but this song has always stood out to me. It is totally 5 Star +++++ John
