The Canadian exchange rate is way off. When's that going to be fixed? $149 = $178 CDN but you have nearly $191.

I'd like to know, too. Perhaps you CW guys could have a word with those who programmed the store. It's been off for years.

For those of us that have X3 Producer.  Do we need to do a complete uninstall of Producer?  Or will this new Platinum install right over the existing Producer?

No, the new version installs just like every version before it except the installers are smaller and organized differently. IOW, the main program goes in a separate directory, the config goes in separate directories and there are shared utilities and plug-ins. X3 will still be accessible.

It's been a long time since Installed X3 Producer.  So, when you say no it installs just like X3... That leaves me scratching my head. :)

I may have already ran into an issue anyway.  I tried to run the installer and it says that it can't find a required application.  I'm guessing it can't find Sonar x3 producer because I didn't installed it in the default install location.  I Installed onto a completely different hard drive.  Just guessing... I'm about to attempt it again.

There is no need to uninstall anything before installing the new SONAR. Are you using the C3 or did you download the installers from your account?

Well, I got the invite for the pre release. I have x3 producer.
Logged into my account
Downloaded control center
Fired it up after install
I seen several different items I could download One of them being SONAR PLATINUM
So, I clicked on it making it the selected product ( root of many others ) and......

And..... NEVERMIND.  It appears to be installing correctly  now. :)

Thanks man!!!

Re: Please read before you purchase SONAR 2015/01/16 18:06:44 (permalink)
My original question was answered in a simplified form, so I'll ask for more details.
It was stated that the old sonar products and add ons won't be included in the new command system, so by upgrading how much of that cost will we the user, be eating in the long run because it don't function anymore, or work with the new design?

I understand the old store is there now, but what about next year or so?
When upgrading to X3 producer, several extras were made obsolete because they were included in the newer producer version, and the price was slightly modified to help the bite for the general population of users.
It was worth it, and I was happy.
I myself have a few pages of extras that I have purchased in my old store account, I'd hate to lose that investment.

Also the fact that X3 will still run beside the new version doesn't impress me.
(Edit: After finding more info on the rollback system, I'm more impressed lol, but to have to use an older version of anything when you have a killer version available is tough.... like driving a 73 Pinto while you have a Jag in the driveway.)

I'm using an SSD as my main windows drive where most system-integrated software works best, so space on that drive is premium, but I'll deal.

I love sonar, since the "X" versions came out I've totally switched over full time, the only problem I've had is with my MCU pro in X3 .... I'm really hoping those issues will be finally addressed as well.
But otherwise I look forward to the new update and system... as long as it don't bite us in the a$$ too deep with losses. lol
Good job Cakewalk!
(Edited for clarity and spelling, and cause I just pre-ordered the upgrade .. my new "Jaq" can't get here soon enough now! lol)

My goodies show in the new store now! I'm good lol

Hats off to the staff here for taking the time to answer everyone, and going out of their way to "satisfy" the concerns of relatively just a few users.
Been there, do that myself, and it's time consuming and not always easy.

A major change in anything is hard to transition, and these guys haven't even stepped up to the starting line yet!

Thank your local staff when you pass them in the halls, and buy them a cold frosty beer when you can... they gonna need it over the next few weeks!

Thanks Staff members!

Re: Please read before you purchase SONAR 2015/01/17 01:32:37 (permalink)
Usually it is best to delete old versions before installing new ones. All versions of SONAR share utilities and plug-ins. Sometimes installing an old version causes a shared object to be deleted. Not the end of the world, the fix is to re-run the new versions installer again.

Another reason to keep the previous version is just in case there is a problem with the new version or you want to compare something with the previous version.

Last, because most of the space used by SONAR are samples, loops and shared objects, deleting an old version  does not free up a lot of disk space, typically around 200MB.

It's for "pre-release" sale at some retailers ... I think the actual release date is Jan 21st.

I'm not sure where I saw it at, but somewhere around here, lol, it says they have chosen some users randomly to get it early.
I'm not sure of the exact details however.
I pre-ordered mine and am now chomping at the bit for Wednesday to get here so I can hibernate with it on a few new tracks lol.

Why would they do that?

[edit] thanks for the answer sylent. I am just thinking out loud. Wondering what reason would they have to offer it to some "randomly" and not "all" loyal customers?

No problem Grem!
As a marketing guy myself I could only venture to speak from my own experience and line of thinking.

How would you choose which customers are "loyal" users out of tons, someone would argue because they used it every weekend for 10 years they are, while another would say I use it every hour of every day for 5 years so I am.
Forum use stats wouldn't be so good, because post amount may mean one guy isn't as tech savvy as the next guy, when neither may not use the software that often or in depth.

So why do it at all?
IMO it would be great for marketing "chatter", with such a big change in the sales format... helps ease minds of some that are on the fence about the jump.
But it would be just as important to do more "beta" testing in real-world environments, with a random slice of users, their differing expectations, needs, type of usage, and gear etc.
Their excitement and/or unbiased feedback is different from anyone on the dev and sales side, and having a wide range of usage and expectations of consumers is priceless in most cases.

In either case, random is the best way.

That's just my two brain-cells rubbing together to create an opinion. lol

Some "Early Adopters" were selected at random and invited to buy it early. That's why some have it and some don't.

You can install on more than one device and once activated that's it. Forget about it and concentrate on making music.

The random selective 'pre-release' is bull **** (pardon me). I have used Cakewalk since 1995 (20 years) and have upgraded pretty much all the time, bar one or two versions. I feel like Cakewalk treats its customers like ****. You should make every registered person have the opportunity to get the pre-release and those of us who have used your software for over 10 years should be treated with respect. Another marketing disaster for Cakewalk and believe me I am not impressed in the slightest. ANGRY!
