Hooo boy...another kvetching thread... I like the idea that there are deals like this for crying out loud. Think now, you are getting a real upgrade to the top of the line DAW here. What's wrong with that?

thanks for buying our product now dish out more cash for the next while we slash the price of the previous one. Ummm... don't most companies do this, software or otherwise? Since so many people seem to like car analogies, does anyone (at least in the US) expect to pay the initial full price of a 2011 car, right now, in June of 2012? I sure wouldn't. I wonder if existing customers complain this often when AudioMIDI has their many, many No Brainer sales...

All I have to say, since I started this (lol) Is, after putting a lot of thought into this after I started the thread I've come to terms with the money spent. Cakewalk did this awesome promotion to nab up customers from Ableton, Cubase and Protools. And, for the price and what the DAW offers. Someone can grab studio for $399 and get the upgrade to Production Suite (another $299 I believe) for nothing. So why the hell not right? If I hadn't hummed and hawed about switching to X1 from 8.5 for over a year, I would have been one of those with a bunch of issues - but the patches fixed that and when I did make the switch, they had killer deals (as I was already a Cakewalk Customer) and I got Expanded with all the modules for killer cheap. I believe I paid... $349.00 in total for it all. Don't quote me, I'd have to look at my store account. Glad I sparked a great conversation though.

I didn't catch those, but they got me with their "Spring Sale" (Andy Johns Kit, Film Score for Rapture, Z3ta Dance Collection, and Z3ta Mutant Rebellion). All great stuff, nice additions to the library. And I used the 30% off to upgrade to Production Suite, which was awesome. No regrets and no resentment. If you get a better deal, kudos to you! :) Like I said before, it's like walking away from a slot machine just to see the very next person hit the jackpot. What can you do?? You can choose to make yourself miserable with anger and jealousy, or just accept your fate and be happy for the person. Neither one will change anything, so might as well choose to be happy. :)

I took full advantage of that one and, I might as well own up, the others too. I got Z3TA 2 for $34 from CW. Now I could have gotten that free now but I would still have to buy something. I don't feel I was cheated not in the least. I thought and still do I got a great deal.

people that just keep waiting for the next deal will save money, for sure. but he/she will also lose time spent with the product. time vs money the only question to ask one self (I think) should be: "do i have the money and is this product worth the current price, for ME?" if it is: it's priceworthy! buy! if it's not: you don't want it enough! don't buy.

I think it comes down to the fact that giving new customers extreme discounts while expecting current customers to pay higher prices is a substandard business practice and slightly dishonest. When i bought producer it was the top product that cakewalk offered if i had known that in a week they would release a better product for the same price i would have waited. If i buy pro tools HD tomorrow in a week pro tools HD will still be the best available product offered.

Peruse the DUC for endless discussions about the extreme upgrade pricing/gouging that took place around the time PT10 was introduced. The discussion taking place here doesn't even hold a candle to what took place over there...

What i would love to see is someone pointing to companies that regularly give existing customers extreme deals. Every software company i deal with pretty much does what Cakewalk does. Running down my list, Adobe is offering a great deal on upgrades to CS via their subscription based model IF you agree to sign up for at least a year and the great price only lasts for a year before it jacks back up. Sony recently had a sale similar to what cakewalk offers. I could keep going but the truth for most products is they tend to offer great deals to new customers and owners of rival products and throw trinkets at continuing customers. As already confirmed, Comcast won't offer you **** no matter how long you have had their service. I have been with them since 96 and they will make threatening calls if i am a day late with payment. It would be an awesome gesture if Cakewalk rose above the typical, but if they don't, i go exactly what I paid for and then some.

@Jesus Mics... $399 for Studio and and extra $299 for an upgrade to the Suite? That's not right... unless maybe pricing is different where you are but I doubt it would be that crazy. When I was looking to make my purchase X1 Producer was $399 and the whole Suite was $499 and that's retail from a music store. Are you saying you paid $700 in total for the Suite? If so you did indeed get ripped off. How, I do not know.

Ding Ding, Beepster, you are correct. I maybe should have looked at my store account before yapping my lips. I don't have the suite, I have Expanded with all Prochannel modules. I figured this would have been the best route as I have no need for the soft synths at the moment as I am a mixing engineer and not into production at the moment. Paid $149 for Studio, then $99 for Producer Expanded and again $97 for all the modules. All in all I am no longer complaining as Is till got everything with a steal.

So about $350... certainly not bad. I just went all in and grabbed the Suite for 5 bills right off the bat so I didn't need to mess around with upgrades and other nonsense. Will I use it all? Maybe, maybe not. However I look at it this way. The absolute base package for the good Steinberg/Avid stuff are both around $600. I wouldn't be able to do much with those packages above basic engineering. I want to do more than that and no one is paying me to produce (yet)... so X1 was one wicked deal and I think I have just about all the little toys a wacky wackster like me could ever want. No regrets. Cheers.

Yanno I'm not completely sure but it definitely has Expanded included and all the extra fancy Pro Channel stuff. It also has the full versions of Z3TA and Dimension Pro (not sure if those come with the the regular Producer package). There's also a ton of extra content. To tell you the truth I didn't really dig too deep into it before I bought it. The way I saw it was the Suite was only an extra hundred bucks and I figured there must be SOMETHING useful in there so I just went for it. I didn't even know what Dimension Pro WAS until after I had installed it and started checking out online vids. I really think it was a wise choice even if I don't use everything. I'd probably drive myself nuts thinking about whether I'm missing out on cool goodies if I hadn't gotten it. ;-)

I just don't understand the logic in whining about missing a sale...I'd really like to know if these people go down to a store that runs a sale on an item just after they've bought it and whined or demanded a refund....this complaining is ludicrous man...sheesh!

Good points made here, and I think we can also look at it from a marketing standpoint. Cake is always having to come up with deals to retain (or obtain) an edge in the market. The competition has gotten stiffer...Studio One 2 and Reaper seem to have gained a considerable amount of fans, and Cubase is still making efforts to keep up as well. ProTools is more affordable with their latest version. So Cake has to do whatever they can possible afford to do to remain relevant and hopefully stand out in the crowded marketplace.
