RajahP No Incentive 'foe' anyone trying to upgrade to X1 Producer from Studio 8.5.. Well well.. Yes, what about it. If I want to up/ cross- grade from 8.5 STUDIO To X1? I think I am the third person asking in this thread...

Besides my question above, something is bothering me.. Someone having Studio 8 can upgrade to 8.5 Studio for 79 Eur and get X1 "free" I have already upgraded to 8.5. Studio a long time ago and should buy X1 on/ after the 8th for 99 Eur? Or should I re- upgrade....I just don't get it...

Brandon ok! so you said yo "dont" have to uninstall 8.5 but do you recommend uninstalling it even if you want to work on projects started in 8.5? 2. will custom templates created in 8.5 open in X1? 3. will there be any new info other than skylight, pro channel & tools released before the release? (i know those are the main focuses but i know so much more went into the creation of X1 - i just want to truly appreciate that effort) thank you for your time WHYZ

What's the deal for those of us on Sonar Producer 8.5? Do we re-upgrade for £89 or wait for the 8th...will the upgrade price go up for us or what? It's a bit vague for us loyal supporters because on the webstore it says something like "Buy now because the upgrade price will go up after the launch date". Some clarification please.

If you already have 8.5 then X1 will cost you $143 (£89) on/after Dec 8th (rest of world $99) You can't buy it before then.

It was stated earlier in this thread that the price of $99 for 8.5 owners to upgrade WON'T change on Dec 8th... I sure hope that hasn't changed...

Hey folks, Sorry if this is repetitive to an earlier question, but would like to know for sure. Does this upgrade offer expire Dec. 8 or not? On Musicians Friend web site, it says offer expires Dec. 8, while on B&H Video's web site, it says offer expires Dec. 31...? Also, does this offer apply to Academic versions? Many thanks!

mwall DaveSchuler I think that people who upgraded to 8.5 within the last couple of months ARE being penalized: If I had not bought 8.5 a month ago I could upgrade to X1 for $99. But since I'm such a loyal customer it's going to cost me $178 ($79 for the 8.5 upgrade plus another $99 for X1). What are you looking at? I am confused. The first post says if you buy Sonar 8.5 you get the upgrade to X1 Studio for free. But it also says it costs $99 to upgrade. Can someone please clarify?

If you bought 8.5 (outright or upgrade) in the past four weeks (Since Nov 1st) Cakewalk are being kind and letting you have the equivalent X1 for free. This is purely kindness on their part in an attempt to cut down on all the post reading "If only I'd known I'd have waited... " , "Cakewalk are ripping me off..." , etc. For everyone else that already has 8.5 the upgrade price is $99 (unless you live in UK where we are charged $143) Is that so difficult to understand?

This thread is now into 8 pages with the same question and answer posted many times, there are several other threads in the X1 forum all asking the same question and all getting the same answer from many different people. There was no deliberate intention on my part to make you appear stupid.

I thought Karyn explained it rather straight forwardly. If you bought any version of Sonar before November 1st you can buy the brand new Sonar X1 on December 8th. Depending which version of Sonar you currently have, will depend on how much X1 will cost you. If you have never bought any version of Sonar before, you can still buy the brand new Sonar X1 on December 8th, but you'll have to pay more than any current Sonar customers. If you bought (or upgraded to) Sonar 8.5 since November 1st, Cakewalk are being rather nice and will let you get the brand new Sonar X1 on December 8th for free. Whatever your situation... If you are a UK or EU customer, it will always cost you more than US customers.

Cakewalk price their upgrades by the number of levels you jump at one time. So 7 to 8 is 1 level, 8 to 8.5 is 1 level. 7 to 8.5 is 2 levels (costs more). ATM 8.5 is the latest version, come Dec 8th X1 adds another level to the mix and the upgrade prices increase to reflect this. 7 to X1 = 3 levels... Upgrade to 8.5 now to get X1 included in the price, or wait untill the 8th and pay more....

I recently upgraded to 8.5 PE and am enjoying learning the new features and using the latest tools, soft-synths, etc. Normally I am an early adapter and plan to move to XI, however, if I don't like the new interface or have issues (performance, for instance), can I roll back to 8.5 and get a refund? What I don't want is to spend an inordinate amount of time learning how to do things again so I end up spending more time hacking around than I do producing music. Thanks, --WG

Thanks, --WG I'm pretty sure you wouldn't get a refund if you bought X1 and didn't like it. There's no reason why you can't have 8.5 on your PC at the same time as X1 though - they will both work side by side. A demo version of X1 will be coming out (I saw it confirmed by one of the Bakers on this forum), but it may not be available for a while (perhaps even months).

This is purely kindness on their part in an attempt to cut down on all the post reading "If only I'd known I'd have waited... " , "Cakewalk are ripping me off..." , etc. Actually, it's not that altruistic. This is how you keep income rolling right before a major product release. If they didn't offer this free path, sales would plummet during the month of November. By doing this, sales actually increase during November (I'm a personal contributor myself) and December will also be an up-month due to the shiny new product hitting the streets. This particular marketing lesson was learned the hard way back in the early 80s: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osborne_effect

You didn't buy Sonar X1... you actually bought Sonar 8.5 Cakewalk were rather nice to you, and they gave you X1 for free. So, if you don't like it then hard luck. If you don't like 8.5, well you could have downloaded the trial version of 8.5 before you purchased it. If it was me buying/upgrading-to 8.5, I wouldn't even bother installing it, I'd just wait a few days until I could get the free version of X1. My guess is once you use X1, you'll never use 8.5 again.
