well, they mastered the art of the let down. Something must be wrong... Still no communication on Facebook either. Missed opportunity from marketing. :/

With any major company these things are never intentional. Something went wrong - found a major bug at the last moment, web pages aren't ready, problem with setting up product on the server(s) or with payment servers.
Probably no announcement because the fix always seemed maybe an hour away - then you hit another issue, then another and several hours later you're still trying to finish that 15 minute fix...
If this is the case their probably camping in trying to resolve things.
If the problem is with a 3rd party such as increasing their bandwidth for the next couple of weeks to handle the increase in traffic they may be at the mercy of other peoples priorities.

Edit:
On other hand maybe maybe their calendars are 6 months off and they thought today was April 1st not Sept 1st.
No matter what's happening at some point you need to communicate with your customers even if it's not good news.

It's simple - communicate with yours customers. If you make an announcement like that are lucky enough to have hundreds if not thousands of fans waiting minute by minute ALL DAY for the announcement, you have the courtesy and respect to post a message or two and set proper expectations.

they've turned me from a fan to a skeptic. :( I feel like I wasted a lot of time today because of their failure to communicate.

The story over at vi-control is that they're having some release party/announcement thing on the west coast. Flying people in, etc. So it appears there is no disaster. But I agree they should have started their countdown one day later.

Not very spectacular - however, the Hybrid "Duo" sounds looks interesting, and that it incorporates into Omnisphere with all the posibillities of Omnisphere's engine. Hmmm.

Edit to add: The Video is worth a look! If I was a piano player I'd get this I think. I'm not, however...

Well, I love keys, but we already have lots indeed, and very good ones.
As an Omni expansion? Sure, but not at $399 or $299. Maybe $149. Just maybe.

I have been thinking about getting a Yamaha P115  for the lounge room later in the year just for piano practice, but now after watching this video, I am thinking I might get a Roland A 88 instead and hook my old laptop up to it.

As for the the software, I think I would rather buy this than and ultimate upgrade.  I would buy it at the $200 dollar price point, as there is 40 odd pianos, so $5 an instrument is okay with me, not sure about $10 and instrument though when I have so many already.

I think Spectronics may have just sold me on a Roland product..

sometimes playing an instrument just inspires you. When I played a 9 foot Steinway grand at the Steinway factory "Steinway Room" was one of those times.  That's what every pianist/keyboard player is trying to get. Those guys (and gal) in the video were surely compensated for their appearance, but their joy appeared genuine to me. Those are players I respect enormously. Maybe I'm a sucker--ok, we all are suckers sometimes--but even on my iPad Pro's speakers the sound reminded me of the days when I actually owned and played the original instruments (Rhodes, Wurly, etc.). They will sell a few of these, I'm sure.

Re: Something brewing at Spectrasonics? 2016/09/02 08:46:16 (permalink)
Hmm.. It was indeed not what I expected, but....

Frankly - I have watched the demo video, and was impressed by the quality of the instruments. I was always missing good realistic keys in Omnisphere, and it seems this gap is now filled.

I have seen some remarks from people that say: "huh - another piano vst"/rompler", but I can remember the same was said about Trilogy (that now has become Trilian). At the end Trilian has proved to be more than "another" bass "rompler". I am sure the same is true for Keyscape. We have to wait until some reviews are rolled out, before we truly know how this new instrument behaves, and what quality it has. So far, as said, I am impressed.

Will I buy it? Well - not immediately, but I think it will be in my library within a year or so. I am not a great keyboard player by any means (I am glad to know there is a difference between black and white keys), but I cannot deny this new instrument sounds superb. It fits a hole I was seeing in Omnisphere, and that hole has become painfully clear now. It's a gap that screams to be filled (I know, I know.. I'm not logic or coherent at all - I 'm never been fully rational really).

The price is high. That's true. Is it too high? In my case it's not really (I can save some money every month until I can buy it), but I suspect other people will say it's too much. That said - I think many keyboard players will love to have Keyscape.

Five years ago I wouldn't have thought twice about the purchase. It was a great video and I enjoyed hearing/watching the players.

Surely they will discount that for people that already own their products.

I agree, if that is what it cost I would get it imedeatly. But I can never justify these sounds, and I do not work enough with piano players in my studio to have it installed over what I already have. If I was a piano virtuoso like the people in the video, with a great love and passion for all these instruments, then it looks pretty much worth it. I really liked the sound of this! I am no piano player, but I know a couple whom I will make aware of this

As a keyboard player (not nearly as good as those guys) I'd have to say...so.
I think the quality is outstanding but in the middle of a mix, who is really paying attention to all the nuances? If you are playing solo stuff...perhaps.
I think the biggest selling point will be its integration with Omnisphere.
Nothing but love for Spectrasonics and I'm sure there are those that will purchase based on need but...
I've yet to purchase Omnisphere 2 because I barely touch the original.

Having said all that, it may find its way into my rig...eventually and just because.  Lol.

Ok Eric, will you upgrade RMX now?? Pretty please?? :-)

As a keyboardist I, of course, loved everything I heard.  In fact, I teared up a couple of times.  That guy from Snarky Puppy is killer diller.  For me it would also mean getting at least a 100 gig SSD external drive to run it on.  So, there's that.  And the worst part is that come October my Sweetwater account will be at "zero".  Dern.

Olpal, I believe that there will be a Lite loading version for use with live performances via laptops, etc. And I, too was awed by the sounds and of course the virtuosity of the players, (and surprise with Herbie at the end). I do not have Omnisphere, the cost has always kept me from doing it, as I am more of a "live" composer than a sound-sculptor. But dang, those keyboards sounded like the real deal, and very inspiring. It may be more than I can resist....at least, eventually.
