Problems with the elicenser component attached to my Steinberg UR44 interface. It says I don't have the required permission to run the software. Not ready for win 10 by the looks of it.

I'm back in the game. The Steinberg UR44 interface is tied into the elicenser system just like an ilock. Why, I'll never understand. Maybe they think I'll make a pirate interface. At any rate, I went through the license process again and it unlocked the interface.

Yah looks like drivers will be the hangup for now. But looks like manufacturers are rolling them out at a decent pace.

I checked my East West Symphonic Orchestra and Synthology's Ivory II programs, both worked fine...Ilok doesn't seem to want to work but it isn't stopping those two programs from working. Go figure.

So it's the same as any other windows release. I do have sympathy with MS as third party drivers issues is always the problem. I also have sympathy with third parties making the drivers who don't want to waste resources developing on a moving beta platform. Good news is it will all probably be OK in 3 to 6 months. It's just a waiting game mainly. Some will be lucky straight away others not so lucky.

With the way MS is dealing with privacy, it might be an idea, too, to wait for these issues to get cleared up. It almost sounds like offline computing will be difficult if not impossible without risking being blacklisted regarding security updates.

I'm still reading reports trying to sort it all out, but for now, no Win10 for me.

Actually this release was more trouble free than any of their other releases. It went rather well for me as about 99% of everything worked fine on first try. I'm quite pleased with it. The speed of the Edge browser, the new Start button layout, the Start page, make it all worthwhile. You can customize the Start button's layout and man is that nice !!!

MS has pulled Windows 10 off pretty well, imho. I give it a thumbs up, fire up a virtual machine or a non-critical test machine, install 10 and start putting it through it's paces.

So far I had the UR44 problem and got it fixed. There was an issue with AD2 because it thought I had a new PC. Had to delete my desktop PC from my list of installs and then re-authorize it and now it seems 90%. There may still be some tweaks. All my Waves stuff is working ok as are all the Sonar plugs.

I can see why they gave it away for free. Win 10 is more like a huge shell than a PC O/S. Parts of it are designed for integration with mobile devices, parts are designed to make it a front end for the X-box and of course they installed a front end for their own media store. MS obviously wants to get ALL your business across ALL your platforms. Funny enough, I think they'll make more off of the free give away than any OS that came off the store shelf.

I'm finding the change between win 7 and win 10 to be much like the change between Sonar 8.5 and X3.

When I upgraded to Win10 the only problem I had was the Nvidia Win10 patch didn't work and I couldn't change my display settings.  Reinstalled today & everything is peachy.

Everything seems to be faster, even in SPlat.  I have had Microsoft niggles, but the only thing I had to re-authorize was AD2.  The Spectrasonics & NI stuff didn't flinch, but I'm not seeing the Gloucester update in the CCC yet so...

Thanks Noel.  They must have released the new driver last night, because the 10 driver I installed yesterday didn't work.  Dang, I should have taken screenshots. :-)

I know this is a Sonar forum, but has anyone have Cubase 8 x64 installed on their Win10 system? Steinberg gave a vague "performance and timing issues" reason as to why their users shouldn't update yet, but yet there's users saying that Cubase works fine on their personal Win10 systems.

I use Cubase just as much as Sonar, each has their own strengths.

I have a Roland UA-11 MKII and the Win8 driver is working great in Win10. Win10 is something I got for free. But it looks very well done. I'm looking forward to integrating my Phone (Nokia 1520) and my desktop machines more closely. And I do hope Microsoft makes some money with the app sales. On the iPad I was happy to spend a few quid. Now I hope the apps available on IOS and Android will be available on the Windows platform too. If well executed it would be great to experience the trouble free life we have had using windows 7 & 8.

Re: Sonar + Windows 10 2015/07/31 01:43:31 (permalink)
Man, feel like I dodged a bullet.  I upgraded to Windows 10 today and lost interaction through my firewire port to my Saffire Pro 40.   The 1394 just acted like there was nothing there - no connect/disconnect indication, etc., even though the Saffire showed an active firewire connection (probably just a hardware thing, like an ethernet light).  In addition, my on-board audio (that runs my little PC surround sound speaker system) was not able to produce 5.1 surround - rear speakers would not work but front, center, and sub were good.

I played for hours with complete driver and app uninstalls, power-down, re-installs (for both the on-board audio as well as the firewire)... no joy.  I even tried the Windows 8/8.1 legacy 1394 OHCI for shizzengiggles - newp.  Even though Focusrite's website says the Saffire line is ready for Windows 10, my experience says otherwise.

The good news is, the roll back is super-quick - took about ten minutes - and everything is working well again.
It's a damned shame too, cuz I was liking a lot of what I was seeing in the interface (although some things are maddening - I felt like they were actually trying to hide the device manager "button" ... and I needed it a LOT).

Needless to say, I could/did not test how all my plugs would behave - I was too busy yelling in Python voice "RUN AWAY!  RUN AWAY!"

So it's Win 7 for me for a while until real support materializes.  Makes me laugh at the reports that MS is getting serious about audio... how about a little help on the firewire guys, and don't play the it's old tech card here... there's lots of installed base out there.  A serious race car has a rear view mirror.

I take it the same goes for the A-800Pro ?

EDIT :

Although I looked just yesterday at Roland's W10 driver page, I didn't see the section on keyboards.  Looks like the 800, 500 and 300 are all under testing, which is good.

According to the list the A-500S indicates no not compatible.  I doesn’t show under testing so I wonder if they are still going to put out a driver for it or will I have to get a new controller?  If that's the case I will just continue to use Win 7.

Hi all, I'm a first time poster on here and not sure it this is the correct place to post but wanted to share my experience of trying to start Sonar X3 Producer after the Windows 10 install.

When I first tried to open Sonar I immediately got 2 consecutive error messages.  The first message was "The program can't start because MSVCR110.dll is missing from your computer.  Try resinstalling the program to fix this problem."  The second was pretty much the same except referenced MSVCP110.dll file as missing.

I found out that it was a C++ problem (not a Sonar problem) and I needed to "reinstall" the file from the following link: (won't allow me to post the link).  Just Google MSVCP110.dll and download the file from Microsoft.  The title was "Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012 Update 4".

It was actually a "repair" when you run the executable vcredist_x64.exe and/or vcrdist_x86.exe depending on your version of Windows.

Hope this helps anyone else that may run into the same issue that I did.

Only issue I've had so far is that my Alphatrack isn't working but it haven't done any troubleshooting yet.

Certainly the fastest upgrade I've ever done. I'll try the upgrade for a while until I get a list of what I want to reinstall and the ill do a fresh install.

My question is more along the lines of will Sonar (I use Platinum) still be supported under Windows 7? It sounds to me like 10 is just the best features of 7 & 8, but not that much different under the hood. I see no compelling reason to upgrade unless I'm forced to. I find the whole touch screen thing to  be rather gimmicky, when it takes some pretty precise maneuvering with a mouse to adjust some parameters by small increments. Not to mention that touch screen means hand sized. Even with some decent sized monitors this may be problematic. Put a dime up on the screen next to a knob next time you open up Sonar. What's next, 60" monitor so you can effectively tweak things? That's moving 100% in the wrong direction for me.

I checked that the Roland drivers's page, and it shows the PCR-800 Pro under testing, but not the PCR 800. I guess I'll have to get a power supply, and Midi it up to my Quad Capture
