Top work sir! This really helps a lot - thanks for your efforts Have you any ideas how to get rhythm symbols back into scroll view? Is the menu customisable there or would it be a floating type similar to Sibelius?

Again Ben, Many thanks, the latest versioin is working great for me. Not quite settled on a configuration that will always suit me but as I get more into X1 and how it will suit me I'm sure I'll hit on an ideal ssetup. Looking forward to having this version of SONAR be as stable for me as 8.5.3 so I can actually work with it rather than experiment. Patiently waiting here. But your efforts are to be applauded. i hope the Bakers recognise that our acceptance of your work is a strong indication of what's missing in X1

It is great to see people do not sit down wringing hands when something is missing, but jump into it and customise/add things themselves. I think that's the way to progress. Not just only complaining and doing noting -and waiting until the software developers do something- but take action. If possible of course... As I work a lot with open source software, i am used to this mentality. I think this mentality is beneficial in closed source development/programs too. And this helper utility is a perfect example of this positive way of thinking. Great work! Keep up the good spirit!

Chregg i'm trying to install it it, but it aint happening, obviously its me, how do i do this ben, copy the help exe into sonars folder ?? Hmm. It's bit of an oversight on my part not to include installation instructions! Just extract the zip file to any folder on your PC, somewhere convenient like C:\Program Files\'Sonar X1 Helper' or maybe even better 'C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Sonar X1 Helper'. Once you've done that, run Sonar as normal. When it's started up and is ready to go, in Windows Explorer, go to the folder where you extracted the Helper files and double click SonarX1Helper.exe. That should be it. Helper needs Sonar X1 to be open before you run it. HTH.

John Everything works. Simply unbelievable! Well, apart from the odd bug perhaps! Keni found a couple earlier, but nothing too heavy I don't think. Really glad it's going down well. Liked the screen shots too John - that's exactly the sort of place I thought it would fit nicely in.

I installed it and checked my preferences boxes and put the helper where I want it to be in the project and I also have it in Sonar Utilities. But when I close Sonar and Re open the helper isn't there anymore. It's still listed in utilities so I click it but still a no show. By the way, is there a way to uninstall the helper?

But when I close Sonar and Re open the helper isn't there anymore. It's still listed in utilities so I click it but still a no show. By the way, is there a way to uninstall the helper? Maybe this is the same problem that yourolpal is having. Obviously I need to do a bit more testing. For now, don't use the Utilities menu. Just run SonarX1Helper.exe after starting Sonar. That should work. If you still can't get it to open (or it appears to run but you can't see the toolbar), try running Helper as Admin. If that fails then there may be a problem with the saved preferences. On my Win7 PC, they are stored in: C:\Users\benstat\AppData\Local\SonarX1Helper Might be slightly different on Vista and XP. Delete all of the files and folders within there, then try again. yourolpal: If you're reading this, please try it too. To uninstall it, do this: 1. Use the Preferences window to remove Helper from the Sonar Utilities menu. 2. Close Helper. 3. Delete the helper files from your PC. 4. Go to your AppData\Local folder (same one as above) and delete the SonarX1Helper folder. That will completely remove Helper from your PC, leaving behind no registry settings and no files or folders at all. I may add an 'Uninstall' button to the Preferences to do it all for you. HTH. Please let me know how you get on. I'd like to fix it if there is something really wrong.

I just used system restore to "remove" the Helper. I like it's possibilities but I think I will wait until it's not a beta program before I use it again. That being said I'm happy that people like you are on this forum really trying to contribute something to make life using Sonar easier.

Sorry Ben, ol pal, that didn't do it either. Still can't open from the utilities menu. It pops up Helper but it also pops up the "Can't Find... Sonar Helper will now Close" dialog. Which it does when exiting the dialog. For now I can just run it from the exe file. PS: I'm on Win7 64 bit.

You, John and I would have sworn there were none of those buttons in recent versions but because there were so many buttons we either never saw them or had deactivated that menu bar option(Standard). I tried to explain to someone that they weren't there since Sonar 2 or something and he insisted they were. Much to my amazement they had been there all along, I just had that deactivated in menu bar.

It might be a problem if you leave Helper open and then close Sonar (ie. in those circumstances it might not be saving its position properly). Presumably it gives you this error every time you open Helper? 2. Does a reboot fix it? 3. If not, try running Helper as Admin. 4. Failing that, what version of Sonar do you have? 5. And what version of Windows? 6. Finally, have you installed all versions of Helper so far into the same folder on your PC, or did you use different folders for each version? Hopefully this will begin to help me figure out what's going wrong. Many thanks, Ben

It's one of the best SONAR user contributions, for certain! I just want to let you know that the formula you gave for Helper to remember the last position is confirmed here, too, with X1 Producer x64. I was doing it the 2nd way you mentioned, and when I placed the Helper at the bottom bar of the Multidock window, the position was not being remembered. But if I do it the firist way, laid out by you above, the position is remembered. Again, thanks for this nice utility!

To anyone who has been having problems with Helper: I've just finished a new version. It hopefully fixes some of the problems that Keni has been having, plus adds a couple of new toolbar buttons (one of which is a little bonus as thanks for all your testing work Keni, see below). It also adds a couple of features that won't be of much use to you, but will be a huge help to me when it comes to finding and fixing bugs. Here's the link to download it: http://www.staton.co.uk/downloads/sonarx1helper_v0.9.5.1.zip Just extract the zip file to the same folder that contains the old version of Helper (make sure to close Helper if it's running first). Why do I need to install it? Firstly, it adds two new buttons: 1. Show Track View 2. Show Markers View There are also two new files in the zip file: 1. ResetPreferences.cmd Double click this in Windows Explorer to reset all your Helper preferences to their default values. This could be very useful if there is a problem with your preferences (which I suspect may be the case for some of the problems that have been reported). 2. GenerateReport.cmd Double click this in Windows Explorer to generate a report which contains relevant information about your PC. It saves it to a file on your desktop called 'SonarX1HelperReport.txt'. When the report has been generated, it asks you to email the file to me, and gives my email address. It does not store any personal information, nor does it transmit any information at all over the internet. If you have any problems with Helper, simply generate the report, then take a quick look at it in Notepad to satisfy yourself that there's no sensitive information in it (there isn't), and finally email it to me. I'll do the rest! It contains information such as the version of Windows you are using, whether it is 64 bit, what the current Helper version is and what the preferences are, what folders and executable files the c:\Program Files\Cakewalk folder contains etc. All really useful stuff for me when I'm trying to find and fix a problem. Both of the above files will be extremely useful in helping me find and fix Helper problems, and therefore I would be grateful if you would install this version, especially if you are having problems at the moment. Things like this make it a lot easier for me to improve Helper. Many thanks, Ben Yorolpal & Marshall (and anyone else with problems that I haven't already sorted out or found the cause of): I would be very grateful if you would install the new version, then double click 'GenerateReport.cmd' and follow the on-screen instructions.

benstat benstat Lynn X1 helper doesn't remember its last position as I thought it would, but it does open from the utilities menu, and I can drag it to where I want it. Again, thanks so much. This is the first time AFAIK that Sonar ever had a "save as" button. Hi Lynn, I hate it when things like this happen! It works fine for me, and I haven't had any other reports of it not remembering its position. What exactly happens when you open Helper, position it somewhere, close it, then open it again? Is it even near where you left it? Just had a thought, try the above, leaving Sonar X1 open the whole time, then let me know what happens. It might be a problem if you leave Helper open and then close Sonar (ie. in those circumstances it might not be saving its position properly). It should be OK if you leave Sonar open and close/re-open Helper. Hope that makes sense? Many thanks, Ben [Edit: I'll test it later myself and see if I can duplicate it.] Hi Lynn, Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I must confess I was skeptical about your report at first because I thought I'd tested it thoroughly and got it fully working. After more testing, it turns out that if you do things in the following order it works absolutely fine: 1. Run Sonar 2. Run Helper 3. Close Helper 4. Close Sonar If, however, you do it like this it doesn't remember the screen position: 1. Run Sonar 2. Run Helper 3. Close Sonar I'll work on a fix. In the meantime, simply do things the first way and Helper will remember its screen position. In fact, you only need to do it once that way so that it stores its position, then you can do it the other way every other time. Good find, and apologies for doubting! Thanks again, Ben Hi Ben... I'm sure you know this but I thought to mention just in case... For some of us it's working fine closing either way... I can close Sonar with Helper open and when I re-open Sonar and re-open Helper, the position is still remembered... Keni

twisted6s it it still beta? Well, yes it is. But it's never going to get out of beta unless I can duplicate and fix the problems a few people, like yourself, are having (it's working fine for most). To do that, I need more information. That's where this update comes in. If you're having a problem with Helper, and you can spare a minute or two to generate and send a report to me (by double clicking GenerateReport.cmd), then Helper might just make it out of beta one day soon. Without that information, there will continue to be problems because I simply don't own enough PC's of different specs, versions of Windows/Sonar etc, to fully test it myself. [Edit: For anyone else reading this, I'd like to stress the fact that it is working well for the majority of people.]
