Nope Cake is not for you if you can't get it together fair enough I myself hired a spiritualist to configure my PC to run cakewalk. I mean why should I have to do it? The afterlife haven't got much to do so heck let them do it. I couldn't believe it, I mean my PC runs World of Warcraft and MS Office... Surely cakes stupid software should be able to get it together and mind meld with my hardware. I mean why don't they come around and configure my hardware and make it stable. Heck if windows sound recorder works its gotta be cake eh? For 400 dollars I expect that sort of service. Oh I forgot some exclamation marks, so here are some !!!!!!!

Interesting side note: I have introduced Sonar to 5 other musicians, who are still using it. I am the only one of them who visits the Sonar forum. So in my small experience, only 1 of 5 users actually visit the forum. This would make comparing forum members stats, to real world user stats, difficult.

Seems that someone forgot to tell pragi that i do not have high knowledge of hardware and music software...and yet mixcraft performs like beautiful incense flowing all over my midi-controller. Well OK your ignorance is bliss to you...keep going, you'll get there, Sonar is so sophisticated. Why is it that pro-tools style clip-volume, full automation of every mixing tool, extensive midi programming and comprehensive audio-manipulation and recording is not enough for some people, Mixcraft has it all and more. Name one thing Mixcraft can't do of any relevance to modern music and then i might start listening. Until then, you know that i know that self-deluded people have been a mainstay on the earth since year dot, Sonar is so professional. I have made music in Mixcraft that slammed the clubs silly with multiplex bliss, and not a soul could have known that is wasn't done in pro-tools, that's because Mixcraft does everything pro-tools or Sonar can do, and then some, but hey, clearly the truth is not enough for some people. My tracks sound as complex as anything done by Usher or Beyonce, but oh i forgot, Mixcraft is a toy, but it just so happens that someone forgot to tell me LOL. I've heard tracks done in Sonar that sound like child's-play, and yet people make music in Mixcraft that transcends any expectation of what is possible in modern music. You people just don't get it do you. The inbuilt laptop soundcard doesn't have any bearing on my final sound, it is merely there for monitoring, so seeing as how i make dance-music only, using only VST's etc, after that everything gets mixed down internally through pure integer and binary-code without touching the soundcard, as with all DAW's. To answer your query SGodfrey, i'm now getting even better performance on my new laptop than before. 3rd generation i7, 8gig ram, and lo and behold, an inbuilt soundcard that performs like it was made in heaven. How is it that your pro third-party outboard soundcards are not performing people, but with my inbuilt soundcard I haven't managed to make it click, pop or crack even once, and under enormous loads in realtime with zero latency. Seems that Sonar isn't that pro afterall; you guys need a reality check. Oh, that's right, it can't be true .

Well clearly you are a hardware expert with your mystery consumer sound card, you've worked out that if software X must work that software Y must work because you assume it must have the same hardware requirements ;). Oh, lucky you; so your repudiations have been reduced to blah blah, you poor thing. You might want to try listening for once in your life. In some ways Sonar users are like people who bite of their nose to spite their face, or like a battered wife who just won't leave her bastard of a violent husband. Ho ho, Sonar users have battered wife syndrome...ROFL: and yet they continue to say oh no, everything's fine! Denial is so insidiously dangerous. The grass is certainly greener boys, you just have to jump the fence, it can't be that hard. The only thing in Sonar that has my attention is the Pro-channel; it would be handy just to give me extra options for the final result, but i'm confident that Presonus will be working on such a thing even as we speak, so not to worry. Mixcraft will do me fine until Studio One III is released, and ALL WITHOUT ISSUES. Enjoy Sonar, kiddies.

godparticle, it sounds like what you really should be looking into is Reason or Fruity Loops. Both of those will probably blow Mixcraft out of the water for the style that you're into and will raise your self-proclaimed musical brilliance to levels unheard of in modern times.

Or get Usher or Beyonce to check the Cakewalk hardware specs for you. In all seriousness the lesson you may have learned here is not all sound recording and sequencing software is the same. They have different hardware requirements and do different things. Gain a good inside knowledge of both products and it is clear as day. Sorry you are comparing a battleship with a rowing boat here.

I've never really heard of Mixcraft before this thread, so I went and had a look... Honestly, for the price, it looks like a very decent piece of software. Particularly taking into account that it also does basic video editing (not bad!). But as far as advanced DAW use goes, a few minutes on the first page of their forum turned up two big no-go's: A) There is apparently no built-in ADC/PDC so latent FX will push track playback behind unless first bounced, and B) The controller support only works with the active track, so there's no grabbing a few faders or knobs, making something like the BCF2000 semi-useless. Everything comes at a price...

He has something of a point, although perhaps expressed in a style that would be suited more to a teenage argument about Justin Bieber on YouTube. I mean I quite like Sonar, at least I'm sticking with it for the time being, because I've made an investment (both time and money) in the software and I certainly can't afford to be writing off hundreds of dollars and spending more hundreds on another DAW right now. I certainly like it a whole lot better than Pro Tools, which was far less stable for me and couldn't even run a moderate sized VSTi based project without throwing up errors all the time. However, if you asked me whether I'd drop $400 again on Sonar if I could go back in time, I'd probably say no. It's not that I don't think that Sonar doesn't have the potential to be the best DAW in the world, because it does. It's just that it doesn't feel like a $400 piece of software. There are too many sloppy design flaws, inconsistencies and plain oddities for that. Hell, I get pissed with the design flaws and bugs in Microsoft Outlook, and that only cost me $100. I can turn the other cheek when dealing with freeware, but these days when you shell out this much for software you just expect it to be so much more polished and stable. Sonar, to me, feels very much like it's still in beta. A small example of that was when I posted a while ago about automation for PC FX chain off/on not working unless the ProChannel in question was actually open in the console (or selected in the Inspector), and someone from Cakewalk (Noel?) said that they were aware of the issue, but that it was just too much of an issue to fix, and that fixing it would break other things. This is, I have to say, inexcusable. I have also suffered the same problem with the automation of the arpeggiator's off/on. It wouldn't work unless the track in question was actually selected. This is beyond a bug, it's the selling of an unfinished product that has been shipped part way through its development phase. Perhaps this didn't bother me too much because I'm still a bedroom hobbyist - but if I'd built a commercial studio around Sonar, I would be as mad as hell. Yes there are workarounds and hacks to some of these problems, but they are major productiveness killers and leave a bad taste in your mouth when you're using a piece of software you've invested a lot of money in. It just seems a bit odd that if you buy hardware that is faulty or doesn't work as advertised, you are entitled to a refund. If you buy software that gives you the same kind of problems, there is no recourse. I really don't know why. Anyway I'm not one to moan and complain about Sonar on a daily basis - for me it's performing quite well, a huge step up from Pro Tools, and I am enjoying making music with it. Do I think it's worth what they charge for it? Definitely not. I'd expect a far more polished product for this kind of money. To the OP, you're obviously going to come across as a bit of a dick with the tone you're taking. To be honest it's a tone I hear very often from arrogant 20-something EDM producers who are eager to prove themselves. You say you are making tunes that are rocking the clubs, well how about putting your money where your mouth is and posting links to some of these tunes so we can judge for ourselves. Otherwise we're just going to presume that you're full of it.

Thought so. - http://forums.acoustica.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=12151 - Do you really believe that only 1% of DAW users with control surfaces actually need to control more than the active track? If this were the case, the majority of control surfaces would only need or have one fader... right? And yet... Sheesh, maybe sharke is right. Mixcraft may not be a bad app, but your written conversational skills could use a little work.

Is it really impossible for you to understand that it's useless to pour your childish frustration on us. We're just users of this and many other software. I'm out of this thread.

sharke He has something of a point, although perhaps expressed in a style that would be suited more to a teenage argument about Justin Bieber on YouTube. +1 Thanks for posting Sharke! Took the words right out of my mouth and saved me time. I like Sonar and has been really good for me on my machine in specs. Don't worry about crashes etc. I'm lazy so don't feel like posing tons of examples. But since Sonar 7 there seems to be a real lack in polishing things implemented in Sonar. One example is control surface support. After upgrading from Sonar 4 to 7 my control surface no longer works as expected. I can work around it but why should I have to. I worked with Willy Jones, cakewalk help desk back then, who confirmed the issues and passed them on to developement. He confirmed with me that it would not be fixed in Sonar 8. It's a black hole now so I just gave up hope. Again, like Sonar but this is just one example where things I feel like Sonar needs some serious polishing instead of just moving on. Ok 2 more, staff view and track lanes. Do I need staff view? No! But what they had since pro audio 9 was adequate just needed TLC over the years. Why are we in the predicament that were in now where others daws seem to have surpassed cakewalk notation by far. And track lanes to me was reinventing the wheel and still falls short to what is in logic. In fact both staff view and comping seem way behind and convoluted compared to what logic has to offer.

sharke Bub Since it's 32bit only, I wonder if I can Rewire it in to Sonar and use all my 32bit VST's? Why don't you do that with Reaper? I used to rewire 32-bit Reaper into Pro Tools and it worked great. Wow! Ya know, I never thought of that. You've given me another one of those "Aah Haa!" moments! Thanks! :)

It was just a case of selecting the correct ReWire MIDI/audio inputs in both programs, then configuring the routing matrix thingy in Reaper.

godparticle Oh really CakeAlexS, and yet my rowing boat just tore your battleship to shreds; to many kinks and navigation potholes in that battleship of yours by the looks of it. stevec if you think Mixcraft doesn't have PDC then you need glasses. And tell me who uses a controller for anything other than the active track, 1% of musicians? Thought so. there is a reason Mindcraft is only 75 dollars...uhm,,i mean mixcraft. its a shab.hows automation? except moving a fader up/down. or autosnap ?how's that ? you get what you pay for,if mindcraft,i mean mixcraft was so awesome why is it only 75 bucks,150 megabytes, and there biggest customer is you? thats not saying much, your just insulting everyone in this forum because they happen to prefer sonar. ive tried alot of DAW's.sonar is the best in my opinion. and X2 is very stable here. your figures about 25% of people seem to be the only ones with no problems ? that only those who visit this forum, and 25% ? seriously. no way.theres maybe 5 tops a week that go off on a rant like you are now. keep in mind you dont have to use sonar or this forum? you dont have to post here anymore if you dont wish.

I suspect less than 1% of people who use Sonar post here. Anyway GodParticle clearly IS the self proclaimed expert of everything (God is all seeing), we clearly know nothing... Good luck to him in life, ... and the afterlife. I'm sure his music will live on forever in peoples hearts..
