gswitz
Kenny, I want to know how you like those cables.

Hi gswitz,

Oh , I just saw this , thank you for asking

I bought 2 since GC gave me a real good deal . At the moment I'm currently using one . The other one is still unopened and put away for back up or when the time is right to bring it into use ….

My intial impressions of The Gibson Memory cable are very favorable and I am very happy I bought them…
This is a product that certainly meets a genuine need that I have …
I live in an apt and I am surrounded by neighbors , in addition to that I like to play when everything around me is peaceful and quiet …

The way I have been using the cable currently has been working out very good …
I run the cable into a Yamaha THR 5 that is on a stool facing me set to around my head height ….set to low tv volume
Then I have the cable set to where it will record when I play , if I stop for any length of time the cable will create a new clip once I resume playing ….

So far I have played 3 different guitars out of it , all with very satifying results ….

The first couple of nights that I have used it I wanted to get an idea of what the cable sounded like , so I put the micro card into my Zoom Q 3 using the included card adaptor and sat back and listened to the 16 bit mono Wave files I had created in my little playing / noodling sessions….

A couple of things struck me right off the bat . The sound quality of my directly recorded guitar was very good .

I suspect that 2 factors may have come into play …

1 , The Gibson Memory Cable must have some sort of pre amp section built into itself that may ( auto )  adjust itself for an optimal signal of the guitar when going direct ….
2, I was using an amp that was set to a satisfying sound ( to me ) and I feel that affected my playing in a positive way …even though the amp was used for monitoring and was not recorded , the vibe of my playing did indeed come across in the direct guitar recording …

All the above mentioned things do make me very happy , my creative process has always been that when playing my guitar for my own personal enjoyment , I always like to approach my playing from a very free low pressure lets see what new music may be looking to reveal itself to me zone ….
Example …all the solo unaccompanied guitar music that I posted on u tube were all in the heat of the moment lets flip on the ole Zoom Q 3 and see what happens type of thing ….
I think The Gibson Memory Cable would exell as a recording device for me if I went back to playing solo unaccompanied guitar music again in restaurants, coffee houses and theaters .
I really like the idea that as long as I remember to flip on the memory cable it will record all my ideas no matter how good or bad they happen to be ….
That is a very comforting thought since I have already have listened to a few choice things that I forgot I played .

Before I go , I might as well mention the build quality …..
The cable itself is very well built …it is M I C
There is no question that it is a heavy duty set up and it seems very sturdy …the product itself is a very good design and well thought out .
The cable tips are gold plated ….over by the main housing of the record section it has a way where you can loosen or tighten the cables connection to  the recording interface ….I didn't mess w it , but I did notice it was there .

One very small point of interest , this cable is built like a baby elephant trunk ,  it is not something that will roll up small enough to fit into a Les Paul hard case or guitar case with a small compartment  …..it looks like it may fit in gig bag OK .

For the record , I'm very happy I bought this cable , even if it meant I had spent my X4 piggy bank money on it

Kenny

I'll take it by the fact that this thread has drifted off into the "2 Days Ago" bin...that the masses have given up hope of seeing the hover car featurette any time in 2014.  Indeed, the thread itself has drifted so far off topic that the contents are no longer recognizable.

I suppose that's to be expected on page "14" of ANY thread.

Reminds me of the old "Lockhorns" cartoon where the wife asks:
"Honey, does this dress make me look fat?"
and Leroy answers:
"No, the dress doesn't make you look fat, it's your fat that makes you look fat."

Hope he ducked after that remark....

thats real funny Bro ,
I would have easily let this slide if you hadn't posted this right under my post .

do you actually think that I was OK with the idea that I had answered a forum members question that was directed specifically to me and that my response left me hanging out there looking like an OT Thread Killer for 2 days?

let me ask you this , are you trying to be funny ? discerning ? or judgmental ?
according to my score card , you got one out of three and it ain't the first or the second one

Regarding the reason for my off topic Gibson Memory Card discussion , I was answering a question for someone I was talking with in another thread that I had started regarding SONAR X 4. The thread we were taking in was in another section of the forum , this thread got moved by a mod and wound up  getting itself merged into this thread two days ago …

It is my understanding that the minute a thread has X4 in the title, absolutely anything is permitted as far as content goes.  Nothing can be taken at face value and the meaning of anything anyone says is left up to s/he who reads it.

Given this perspective, I can't even tell if you were serious or not.  There's as much a chance that you're serious than there is that you've been making a joke and I didn't get it.

It looks like Cakewalk might be doing a lot of heavy duty QA before the release. An issue I reported got reproduced and I was asked to submit a bug report. Within hours of my submitting the report, I got an email telling me it was in the developers queue. I think they're at the stage where they're pulling in all the low risk fixes they can get done based on their target release date. It is nice to know they're paying attention.
I would be surprised if they dropped gold before New Years though.

Of course the longer it takes to release, the more likely chance it not going to be called X4..... but perhaps... X5??????
