Oh yeah, I forgot. My first wife met Mike Love when my ex and her cousin spend the night with Mike's daughter (they were all 13 at the time) in Malibu.

In the mid-eighties, one of my sisters comes out to visit us. We take her down to Mexico for the day. (It used to be safe ...) We spend most of the afternoon on the balcony of La Fonda, drinking mucho margueritas and enjoying ocean view from the clift. One of us looks up to the main restaurant and sees about a hundred people with their faces pressed like panini's on the plate glass windows looking right at us. I'm facing away from the main building, so I have to turn around to look up. As I'm turning back to our table, I see that the guy behind me is Teddy Kennedy. About 4" from my nose. And he's got some beautiful brunette with him that's at least 30 years his junior. I'm not much impressed with celebrity and certainly no Kennedy fan, but we all had a good laugh about how we were the last party there to figure it out. A little later, the sun starts going down and I run out to the car to grab jackets and sweaters. As I return, I see Mr. Kennedy and date leaving in VW. I am happy to report that he did learn an important lesson: they were in a convertible, the top was down, and she was driving.

Ok, I'll help with the pile on. I haven't thought of this one for a while. My home town grade school friend Kenny had an Aunt who would visit once every few years. She worked as a hair stylist where ever she called home... I was just a kid I didn't know much about her... but I did know this: Kenny's aunt was a Playboy Bunny who had done one of those feature shoots in the early 70's... and even though we were kids we had secured a used copy of said publication down at the used book store ;-)... so when ever Kenny's aunt came to town we all lined up for big city hair-stylist living room haircuts... because that woman was WORLD FAMOUS as far as we were concerned... and we all wanted to get to visit with her. She was always gracious, conservatively mannered and she always smelled real nice. Wow, haven't though about that for a while. :-) best, mike edit spelling

I wouldn't say met.... But I was at the Fort Lauderdale Airport a few years back wating for a flight to the Bahamas, and OJ Simpson was sitting there with an entourage not 5 feet from where I was sitting. He and his posse all had huge expensive looking golf bags and they were flying to Freeport Bahamas. I assume he had a hot lead on his wife's real killer and was heading to a meeting on a golf course in freeport to follow the lead. Only explanation really. JR

Johnny Duncan, a good friend! A really decent guy who spent his last years in Australia, sadly he passed away! But to end on a brighter note he had achieved #1 and released a lot of great albums. websites: Click Here and Here Peter Noone, another friend! Still performing strong to packed out venues. A funny guy with a good sense of humour. He is very protective of his family, his daughter is a great singer too. website: Click Here Maria Katts, (actress/singer), friend, met her parents, a really nice girl, awesome voice, wanted to break into the music business for which the potential for success was very promising, she worked with me on some recordings soon after she invited me to her 21st Birthday party, anyway Maria was battling cancer, sadly she lost her battle soon after her Birthday. Maria appeared in films such as 'Acropolis Now' and in popular Australian drama series 'Police Rescue' Still to this day I feel very sad she lost her battle with cancer :( * Just passing by (at venues and studios): Blood Sweat n Tears (whilst I was performing at Sweethearts, Cabramatta (NSW, Australia) during their busy scheduled tour in Australia. Oh and we we're one of the last bands to perform at the pending closure a what was a GREAT venue! Oh well! Jukeboxes are in, crime rate up!! Iva Davies (whilst at Studio) the amount of gear laying around it's a wonder anybody could walk pass. Jimmy Barnes (whilst in the studio) of all things this guy arranges a BBQ cooking up the biggest king prawns I've ever seen. Michael Stavros (whilst in the studio), the guy walks in whilst I was tracking/mixing and says... hey that sounds like hit potential! Then shouts me and my friends ice-cream (obviously the guy likes ice-cream), a really cool guy. Anyway! That's just to name a few! For the later few it was during busy time schedules.

Hi, How strange ... I can see some of these people being an inspiration to your own being and creativity ... I've met a few in my time, but in general, all I saw was another man, or woman ... with exactly the same issues as myself ... and since then I have never worried about how "famous" someone was ... like they don't have to eat, sleep, love, hate ... live like we do ... just with an instrument or something else ... I can tell you this, there were/are a lot of famous people that ... don't deserve it ... and a lot who ... probably do. Some are thankful and some are not. And some don't care, and just want to rip your wallet for all it's worth! That said ... as a kid in Lisbon (famous dad writer and translator) .... Elliot, Browning, Solcheznisnky (spelling), Steinbeck, Hemingway, Amado, Malraux, Sartre, Camus, Huxley ... and many others ... as an adult I was no longer interested in famous rock stars per se -- and honestly --- rock stars did not have a whole lot to compare ... unless you measured some cocks and some sexy outfits! ... and with psychic reader/friend next to me I very naturally said ... we could put all the psychics together ... sort of like academics and have a cup of coffee ... and he said ... "and talk about what?" ... and that was meant not as a downer but as an example of what some people don't like, or need to do ... and the same goes for us. Personally, I have found many jerks in the business, more than you and I will ever care to admit ... but then I have also met others that were really nice ... and fame has nothing to do with artistry whatsoever ... in fact, quite often it is quite the opposite! Daevid Allen, Gilly Smith, Pierre Moerlin, Didier Malherbe, Mike Howlett, Pip Pyle, Steffi - Great folks all around Edgar Froese, Chris Franke, Peter Baumann - Nice Porcupine Tree - Very nice folks Christian Vander - Super ... and your tears of appreciation were more than appreicated bu us all as well! Damo Suzuki - how time has ... faded away ... Robin Williamson (Incredible String Band) -- funny Georgio Gomelsky - great Brand X (no Phil needed!) - Very good The Man Band Nektar Do I have a desire to meet any others? Not really ... but I wouldn't mind having tea with Vangelis or Mike Oldfield. And I would rather buy Robert Fripp and Brian Eno a dinner more than anything else ... maybe bring a plant or some flowers to Sandy Denny's spot ... her voice is missed in my heart.

I don't like to name-drop, so I won't name the famous people i've met. But because I'm full of self-loathing, i'll name the most famous person I refused to meet! A few years ago I was visiting England, staying with my uncle in Cheshire. His neighbour was having a small party, and did I want to go? "No thanks. I'll stay in with a book." A few days later he casually mentioned his neighbour by name, Bill Wyman. Seeing that the Rolling Stones were the main reason I got interested in music at all, I was a little perturbed...
