The most famous person you've met?

After they were famous.
Does not count if you knew them "before".
Also, no "I saw him/her on the street as i wlaked by".
Must be someone you actually talked to.

I can only say an "actor" cuz we're both in an Anonymous program.
He's made over 100 movies and has been in numerous TV shows and has done extensive voice overs.

I did meet and talk with Felix Papalardi after a Mountain concert in like 1970.

Update <edit date> this thread still has less posts than the crap jokes thread. Holy crap, Batman!

C'mon guys, add to the posts and make this the premier thead in this cheer coffee house.

The most famous people I have met have been Paul Stanley of Kiss, and all of the guys in Aerosmith. I met a lot of bands in the late 80s and early 90s. A lot of them seemed very annoyed and too good to speak with a fan. However, Paul Stanley and Steven Tyler - 2 of the most famous - were also 2 of the most gracious. Coincidence? I think not...

Oh, and outside of musicians - I did some artwork for Willie Aimes from 8 is Enough / Charles in Charge (later Celebrity Fit Club)...

Back in the 80's I was in a band that opened for quite a few big acts around the U.S. I also worked on the load-in/load-out crews around the Phoenix, Arizona area. You can name just about anybody from that era, and I've got a story. As can be expected from that time, alot of the tales I can't tell my kids about yet.

Most of the famous people I know aren't famous to everyone - only to those who know Christian artists. I have met and talked to Rick Heil of SONICFLOOd and I know Dennis Jernigan and have talked with him on more than one occassion.

the most famous person that most people DO know that I've met was Martin Mull. I had a very brief (but speaking face to face) encounter with him when he was a guest DJ at a local DFW radio station back in 1990 or so.

I met Robby from My Three Sons and Sammy Jackson from No Time For Sergeants when I was a little guy in 1964 I think.
I was to play my guitar on the Jerry Lewis Telethon and they found me at the free hot dog stand. Wiped the mustard off my face and pointed me to the stage.

Johnny Paycheck filled in for our band one weekend and met them. (he didn't work there no more) they had a great show too.

a fair few , a lot in the English charts mainly from late 70's onwards to more recent times till about 7 years ago. Only because of installing studio mac's.. not gonna name drop, they are just people like us. It's more interesting how they have dealt with fame, a minority were absolute ****** who dropped the "do you know who I am" or "I know XYZ.. and if you lot mess me about I'll make sure he doesn't buy things from your company" .. It used to be rather amusing when we knew all their friends anyway and they didn't have anything bad to say..

I used to work in a complex where a lot of famous people passed thru there also... also you'd see a fair few of them milling around Notting Hill area as before it was more of an arty area.

Others , the majority were very level headed and just normal people.

it was partly interesting what era they made their name though as a fair few were "living the lifestyle" and didn't have a grasp on reality.

Reece , never met Pete Tong though.. sorry mate *smirks*

Although probably my favorite customers were those who came in to buy relatively cheap things, did get somewhere with their work, got more money, came back to buy more things. They were the same person as when they started and people boosting their ego didn't affect them.

A friend is famous for his music, and not him as a person. Thats a good way to get on with things, I think.

My cousin's bridesmaid is someone well known in the UK, I knew her before she was famous.. and from what I saw of her shes's still the same person.

Andy Partridge of XTC. I loaned him my Marshall amp & cab for a gig at The Brunel Rooms in Swindon, and he also used it on the sessions for their 'English Settlement' album. Borrowed a DX7 off him once, charged me a tenner the tight git!

My band played a gig with Green Day way before they made it big. At a local dive bar (MacGregor's) in Elmhurst IL. We had a big party after the show in Downers grove with them and the other band that played.

I was friends with a massuse (sp?) that was good friends with Nina Gordon...we hung out watching a show downtown Chicago...we talked about her doing a cameo on a project I was working on, but I think she was just being nice. I was single, and really into her friend...but alas it never worked out; but I'm still a big fan of Nina's solo work....she has an amazing voice.

I also saw Karim Abdul Jabarr and the Empire Carpet guy in the airport...lol (same day, my wife and I were leaving for our honeymoon)

I'm stuck in the past, but my foot's tapping forward

OK So we're name dropping but thats Ok for a bit of fun I suppose.

Alright right then this is by association. I've met, chatted to, and played in the bar of the Chandlers. That's the family of the late and great Chaz Chandler.

I feel stupid for saying that now but there you go.

The funniest thing was that when the american acts would come and play, we'd lightly drop the names of the owners and they'd always hit the roof with excitement.

Oh! Almost forgot, when I was just out of school I had a delivery job up in the Hollywood Hills and delivered stuff to:

    Max Baer Jr. ("Jethro")
    Richard Thomas ("John Boy Walton")
    Paul Winchell, the ventriloquist
The guy who played Dr. Smith on Lost in Space

The job didn't pay much but it was fun.

Oh, I forgot to mention this one.

    Peter Wolf.

Not Peter Wolf of J. Geils Band but of FZ's band.

This is a slightly convoluted story but here goes.

The guitar palyer I was playing with (Butch) decides to move to England to make it big in 1972. He leaves with me (for some strange reason) his Marshall head. He calls me one day and says please sell it. I put an ad in the paper and Peter shows up to buy it. He tells me I have a wonderful house in a great city (Simi Valley, in SOCAL). He say he wishes he could live in such a place one day. He tells me of life in FZ's band.

OK. Butch goes on to meet John Waite of the Babies in England. He co-writes Missing You with him and later goes on to produce Chicago, Stevie Nicks and ultimately a host of Nashville stars. Butch, who now goes by his "given" name of Chas, after moving back to the states gets his name in MIX magazine cuz his neighbors (IN SO CAL) claim his home studio is a violation of a residential area. So he moves just outside of Nashville (hence the producing some Nashville cats). Today he has a successful studio there.

OK, fast forward from Simi Valley (where my son is 5) to 1997 (where my son is 23). My son's band is contacted by a "Producer/Musician" in Simi Valley who wants to have a young band re-create an album a band of his did in the late 70's. Who was that Producer/Musician? None other than Peter Wolf.

My son tells him who his father is and of course Peter rememebrs me vividly.

Maybe not the most famous person I've ever met, but I was playing in a female-fronted alt-rock dance band that somehow got booked to open for Yngwie Malmsteen! Oddest gig ever for both parties, I believe. Anyway, the funniest part of the evening was just after sound check when our guitarist came out of the bathroom and was standing there giggling like a little schoolgirl. We were like, "what is up with you?" and he proudly says "I just peed next to Yngwie!"

Sorry for the off topic response (I'll make an on topic post below), but I just couldn't believe my eyes when I saw you say you used to hike in Big Tuhunga Canyon. I spent many a wonderful day hiking in the B.T. canyon in the early/mid '70's. Also used to go quite often up to the observatory on Mount Wilson. Those were the days. Great memories.

"Whispering" Bill Anderson of country fame.... he was a big artist back in the day...... open a show for him after our brand new band (we knew 7 songs total) won a battle of the bands contest ......winner got to open the show.....we had to play all 7 songs because I think BA was trying to sober up a bit....his backup band was really good.

Jimmy Crawford....country steel guitar player extraordinare and Nashville session man.... played with our band for a whole 3 day special show...and played on one of my original tunes. This cat was hot!

Bill Phillips, another country star from years past...was the headliner of the 3 day show. (actually played with him on 2 different shows... not really something I should brag about)

Gene Watson.... was the star of a Wrangler showdown many years back...got to meet him backstage.

Most recent... the entire band Hawk Nelson. My daughters wanted to see the band, and wanted autographs but refused to go through the line by themselves..... since the line wasn't very long... I went with them.

BJ Thomas and Paulette Carlson...she's the singer from Highway 101...right after she left Highway 101 for a solo career......saw them both and met them both.

    That's it...I think....

no wait.... one other guy...don't remember his name... he claimed he was the singer in a 60's band that was a one hit wonder with a #1 hit. He was trying to put a new band together to "hit the big time" again..... but he was such an A-hole nobody stuck long enough to get more than 3 or 4 jam sessions in.....he moved..... good riddance.

I used to go out with a cousin of Heather Locklear, had dinner several times with the family.

I met Les Dudek at his show in Florida a few years back, shook his hand and chatted for a couple of minutes.

I met a fellow named Patrick, a bartender who used to play bass for obscure one hit wonder Marmalade (REflections of my Life?). He gave me a nice shepherd's pie to go with my Newcastle in his pub, The Scotland Yard, watching the Super Bowl with the Buffalo Bills

Best of all, I met the drummer from The Electric Prunes about five years ago, a fellow named Mark something, had a beer with him between sets with a band I was sitting in with. Talk about obscure (them AND us I supppose)

Almost forgot... in 1978 I was hiking in Big Tujunga Canyon with friends and Mickey Dolenz and his instructor came hang gliding down to the ground near us and we chatted them up.

    Best regards,
    Bill

Back in the 70s and 80s I spent a lot of time up there too Bill. Big and Little Tujunga, all over the Angeles Crest Forest. Now you have to register just to go hiking!
