In the interests of balance: I couldn't care less about gapless audio. I can understand its value if you were trying to do live performance, but outside of that, it's just a nicety really. I think this is illustrated by the argument for it's inclusion being "other DAWs do it" rather than "it's useful to me in this way". Don't get me wrong, it would be pleasant and all, but it's not actually *useful* as far as I can see.

To expand on that; I find Sonar mostly performs adequately in this regard, in that you can make lots of changes on the fly. What I'd like to see an improvement in less actual drop-outs, where it actually stops when you're changing something. That would be a big improvement. The odd gap here and there, makes no odds really.

Flywheel I understand what everyone is saying it is not important. Progress is not a problem. lets keep things the same infact why not go back to tape. I wonder if the boys at Roland would like that as an idea. Infact why use desk tops lets go back to the IBM and BBC computers. Hmmm no it's not important. I need to make a request as I am having issues with sync and latency issues which I don't have with other software come to think of it. I hope X1D makes a difference. I'm not advocating going back to the dark ages. I'm simply making the point that, if you are having creativity issues by a momentary pause in playback when inserting a synth or plug-in, you have larger problems. I see weight to the argument if you're trying to use SONAR as a live tool but, that's not really what it's designed to do.

Something no one seems to get is that an audio engine that doesn't pause when doing other things, doesn't pause because it is a more efficient engine, and a more efficient audio engine will not have other issues that make it so you are constantly tinkering with turning off things in Windows, stopping services, and stripping your machine to the bone to try and get it to run without introducing audio artifacts. With a brand "X" DAW I did *zero* machine tweaking to get it ready to record flawless 64 sample latency audio that produces no gaps, even when I am inserting complex virtual instruments while at the same time running a web browser, email, newsgroup reader, along with firewall and anti-virus software running in the background.

No, that doesn't necessarily follow. You're saying that gaplessness would be evidence of better all rind capability; I can't see any basis for that at all.

Yeah that probably does not follow through, and on a DAW is involved as Sonar, Logic or Pro Tools, it could be the opposite- That being said, I still think they can, think they can and yes, VIBE!!! I have experienced the gap-less sessions with LIVE and it is REALLY REALLY sweet for writing VIBE big time. Lance John T No, that doesn't necessarily follow. You're saying that gaplessness would be evidence of better all rind capability; I can't see any basis for that at all.

If Cakewalk will fix the clicks-behaviour with switching screensets Not sure if you've checked already, but, do you have a floppy drive controller on your MB? If so, going into your BIOS and disable it. That might help with the pauses when changing screen sets.

Regarding "vibe", I think I agree with BEATZM1D10T on that. I'm certainly quite certain that whatever strengths or weaknesses my compositional and engineering abilities may have, a gapless engine would not make for better results. I think "vibe" is kind of my job, if I'm any kind of creative person at all.

I have no idea what the relevance of that is. I don't have any problems with X1 "juttering" myself. There are some (entirely predictable) instances where there's a gap in playback. This isn't it not working properly, this is just how it currently works.

For instance, I was running a project at NAMM with 98 plugins, 35 tracks, over 1 dozen softsyths at 32k disk buffers and 1.1ms of latency. Almost no tweaking to the system whatsoever. No "artifacts. It doesn't do anyone any good to spread gross misinformation.

pathos chuckebaby What I want is for people to stop telling non-truths the software. One can be mistaken but to make such an obvious statement like they found the Fountain Of Youth is a joke. It doesn't help misleading newbies or anyone looking to buy the software based on features either. It's a tweak, but it does NOT make Sonar gapless like he professes it does. Brandon Ryan [Cakewalk ] It doesn't do anyone any good to spread gross misinformation. My point exactly!

Well, I tried the X1 demo and it wouldn't play a handful of audio tracks on my the same system with the exact same ASIO settings as the gapless DAW I now normally run. When I ran Sonar as my only DAW I always had to have my machine highly "configured" to work with it, and I couldn't look at it funny or I'd get artifacts (Snap Crackle, and Pop). My gut feeling still is that an easily disturbed audio engine is more likely to gap than one that can be pounded on.

Brandon Ryan I admire you and you are atleast to my knowledge the face of Cakewalk, you do an admirable job. I am sure your peers envy you. But come on, with all due respect, we are loyal customers and all we are asking for is an audio engine that can work on a variety of systems. I look forward to the day when I can run a rig like your's but due to the economy there is only so much I can afford. So my mind says take it easy on Cakewalk but my pocket says I want more bang for my buck lol

What are the specs that X1 was running on if i may be so bold? Also do you think that systems specs should measure up before purchase (I am being serious here) I have thought about this for a while if they were specifications on details and models I think it would make for a better experience. I am wondering whether Cakewalk have a valid opinion on it?

It was for brandon. I was thinking that some systems (machines) work better than others (it would seem) I am enquiring whether the system specs should be more specific to build make, manufacturers than just the amount of mem the app takes up or ghz it can process at. That way, the problems, if any, would be limited to manufacturer and build quality.

I would say it one of the efficient DAWs on the market. I use ownbuild Work-system Windows 7, x64bit Ultimate, INTEL CPU, 16GB RAM, INTEL SSD + 5 other disks in RAID 1 configuration. "Flywheel" what computer are you using? Perhaps it time to come over from the "darkside" (XP32) and update your computer to a new modern Windows 7, x64 INTEL i7 and 16-24GB RAM. Use a INTEL SSD for Windows 7 + Program.
