I love SONAR, she has always been my #1 DAW and this release looks like a no-brainer and btw I prefer boxes because they're a more comfortable fit for me and it might seem kinky but I do like to collect them boxes like trophies. Also I would probably want to update my O/S (again more boxes) and maybe other hardware (cool more boxes) before I take the plunge and then think about O/S update choices; 7 or 8?, yeah lots to think about in the near future. Seriously!

What is the cost of X2 for a first time user?
....my bandmate wants to get into X2, but also wants the boxed version, and not a download.

Thanks again.

X2 is not shipping yet, right now CW is pre-selling upgrades only. If someone wants X2 as a first time buyer they have two options. Wait until the product goes on sale or purchase a copy of X1 now from a retailer which would qualify them for a free upgrade to X2. The upgrade would be download only but they could buy the disks for $30 from the CW store when the become available. Actual street pricing for X2 has not been announced.

Hi Vicsant, not exactly sure but I think that might be about $399 for Producer, or $199 for Studio, or $99 for Essential.

I wouldn't jump on the Win8 bus just yet. I have a feeling it's gonna turd out and the next version of Windows will be better. 7 is plenty solid and Home/Pro will be supported until 2018. It's likely gonna be like XP in the sense it will have a very long life cycle. I don't think 8 will. It's guts will live on but 8 as it is is just gonna annoy too many people.

Agreed.

Like Win98 then Win? (what was it?) That was a dud! Win ME (Millennium Edition officially, had to look it up!)

Then XP came out and became stable and all was good.

Then Vista and....

You know the rest of this story!!

I agree win 7 will be around for long time.

But, win 8 is not ME. It is the 6th version of the Vista paradigm. It will be everywhere in 6 months.

Yea the start screen is stupid. And some of the stuff has been moved for no good reason. (Sorta like a bunch of stuff in SX1.)

But the optimizing of the core will be desired for its improved speed.

As with everything, modifying and configuring are needed.

And lots of utilities are becoming available to help.

I really like the total lack of 3D crap.

I will install SX2 only on win 8-64 for the main music computer.

And so on.

I m in. Could not resist the free DSF Strings. I watched the webminar. Thinks that get me hooked are TH2, Breverb, improved prochannel, improved smarttool, takelanes, and YES! you can copy and paste automation, finally.

too bad I already has a full version of Rapture with 3 DSF expension packs. Any free sound for loyal customer like me?

Jumped in with both feet, but to get the $29 box version,I had to pay a $35 dollar shipping fee!

Oh well, considering what a boxed version will cost in a store here[probably not until around MAY NEXT YEAR!] I'm guessing but $500 doesn't seem too far fetched,so I'm pretty happy to end up paying $163 all up,and the release date of the 27th is the day after my 48th[YIKES]Birthday.

@Beepster,I wouldn't be too hasty about the concrete limiter,If you need to be real careful[like a lot of us!]as there are other good limiters out there, especially this one for FREE : http://vladgsound.wordpress.com/downloads/

YES! you can copy and paste automation, finally.

You've been able to copy and paste automation for a long time, it's just been limited and has never worked particularly well - for many of us frequently more an exercise in frustration than a clean, stable part of the workflow. It remains to be seen whether it all works perfectly as expected in X2; I've been disappointed so many times on that front that I'm personally reserving judgement until it's actually working here, for me, on my own computer...

Same here on all accounts! That TH2 is really tempting! And for the first time I opted out of the box!

Yes I will look forward to these improvements. But only after SP1 comes out. Call me twitchy, but I stayed with Win98 and ProAudio till 2006! Then stayed with XP till the beginning of this year.

I'm with Win7 Pro now and am really liking it. New machine, new OS, new Sonar! So I will see what everyone around here thinks of Win8. I already know what the reviewers are saying. And they pretty much echo what jm24 is saying. I wanna see how it's gonna act with X2.

Thanks for the tip, bob... and happy pre-birthday.

Thanks dude,I'm so shocked at how fast the last 20 years have gone by,and even faster since April 2011,when I got my first real computer.

I used a P3 machine for about 6 months prior, and was always told by so called "Audio Experts",that with Digital Audio,Pro Tools HD was THE ONLY way to go,and for years[just like analogue gear] I thought it was a "pipe dream",as it was "too expensive",especially as it involved a top of the line apple desktop, just to start with.[it still amazes me how much those PTHD/HDX cards are.]

So much to my surprise and joy,by January 2011 Sandy Bridge CPU's,started to change the cost and a Windows/SONAR/In The Box setup was a possibility.

I just pre-purchased X2. There was a new welcome kit labeled Sonar X1 welcome kit 2 with Zeta, a DSF coupon and some video teasers. There was also new versions of the PC4K comp and gate and the Symphonic strings. What happens if I hit the download link on X2? I'm looking forward to X2!!

When I clicked the download link I got a text doc stating I would receive an email when it was ready or something. Can't remember the exact text. However... I did not get a welcome package. Maybe that's new... or perhaps I'm not welcome. *sob*

Looks like I'm late to the party. Just paid and DL'd the DSF strings. Turns out I don't like strings. Oh, I love the EastWest Hollywood strings, though. I gush whenever I hear my friend's work with those. These are just strings though... Just like Garritan, Kontakt and so on...

Seems like you gotta pay a lot to get strings worth writing home about (unlike drums and piano)!

As far as I know, you should have received a welcome pack when you purchased X1.  I know they updated it to Welcome Pack 2.

When did you purchase X1?

As for the CL, I (and many others) think it is WELL worth the money.  It's GREAT on drums and bass, and many other things as well.  Just used it on an acoustic twelve string guitar, and the client BEAMED when he heard it.  His words - "It's like night and ****ing day.."

Heh... I bought X1 in May and likely have all the stuff but maybe there is something extra in there now since I last checked after my pre purchase. I was just joking around really but you mentioned CL... as in Concrete Limiter? We aren't getting that free are we? Naw... it couldn't be. That would make me go from content to exuberant... and that never happens. ;-p

Aw no need. I was just talking about how I saw the CL demo and thought it was nice. I appreciate the effort though. It's likely I already have enough to make things sound crazy as it is. I just thought the CL sounded like something that could push my sound over the top. It is certainly something I am now keeping an eye on. Apparently I missed it when it was on sale but back then I didn't even know what the heck it was. n00b problems fer sure. ;-)

I'd keep an eye on the PC2A as well, it's a monster, especially on vocals
