SONAR X1 coming to store at midnight EST on 12/8--please read the FAQ

We will begin making the SONAR X1 download available on the Cakewalk Store for purchase at midnight on Wednesday, December 8th. In preparation for this huge launch, here is an FAQ which will help answer any questions you may have and get you prepared for the launch. Taking time to read this beforehand will significantly improve your overall experience.

Q: Can I get just a boxed version of SONAR X1?

A: No. If you want the boxed version, you must order the SONAR X1 download and then add the SONAR X1 Box to your cart for $29.99 in order to get the boxed version. Please do this in one transaction. You will also receive your serial number via email, which you can use to install both the download or boxed version.

Q: If I decide not to purchase the boxed version today, can I purchase it later on?

A: Yes, as long as you have purchased the SONAR X1 download, you can go back to the store and add the boxed version to your cart.

Q: Why do I have to pay extra for the box?

A: Cost of goods on the box is much higher and we are trying to encourage people to go green.

Q: I live in Europe can I get a boxed upgrade from my dealer?

A: Yes you can and it will cost less than purchasing the download and boxed version add-on.

Q: How big is the download?

A: All the download size information is listed on the SONAR X1 Download store page for each version. Please read all the information on these pages before downloading.

Q: Do I need to have a previous version of SONAR installed in order to install the SONAR X1 Download?

A: No. SONAR X1 is a completely new installation. It contains all the content and does not install over a previous version.

Q: How long will my download take?

A: We can’t determine this without knowing your connection speed. We have revamped our download delivery system to give you the fastest possible connection.

Q: Should I wait to download SONAR X1 when the volume of people will be less?

A: No. We have revamped the download system to scale up if required to handle the volume. The amount of people downloading SONAR X1 will not affect your download time.

Q:  I completed my purchase on the store but didn’t receive a serial number right away, what do I do?

A: Serial numbers may take up to 30-60 minutes to arrive due to the high volume of orders. You should receive your serial number by the time the SONAR X1 files have been downloaded. Serial numbers can now be found in your store account. Use this link: http://www.store.cakewalk.com/default.asp?ma=1

Q: I tried to buy the SONAR X1 download but I got a message that says “An item in your cart requires further validation” when I checked out. What does this mean and what should I do?

A: This means that our records do not indicate that you qualify for the upgrade purchase you are trying to make. Please verify that you picked the right upgrade for the product you own and that you registered the product. Also, please make sure that you are using the correct store login or email used to register your product. If that does not work it might mean an issue with our records.  Please contact customer service at our toll-free sales/service line Monday-Friday 9 AM to 8 PM Eastern time at 1-888-CAKEWALK (1-888-225-3925) or 617-423-9004 (outside the U.S.) or e-mail http://www.cakewalk.com/About/csr.asp.

Q: I am a registered customer but have never purchased from the Cakewalk Store. What should I do?

A: Please create a new account only if you have never used the store. Please use the SAME email address you have registered any previous Cakewalk products to ensure we can sync up any existing registrations. We should be able to match up your records. If you have already used the Cakewalk Store to make a purchase of SONAR or any other product, please use this existing account and DO NOT create a new one.

Q:  I’ve never purchased any Cakewalk products before. What should I do?

A: Please use the Cakewalk Dealer Finder for assistance in locating authorized online dealers, physical stores in the United States or Cakewalk distributors worldwide: http://www.cakewalk.com/Dealers/finder.aspx

Q: I don’t remember my login for the store. How do I find it?

A: Your store login is an email address.  Try your current email address.  If you don’t have a login and are creating a new one please use the SAME email address you have registered any previous Cakewalk products to ensure we can sync up any existing registrations.

Q: I tried to buy the SONAR X1 download but my credit card could not be authorized. What should I do?

A: Please try it again and double check all the information you type in including the billing address. If this doesn’t work, please try using the PayPal method which can be used to process most cards without a PayPal account. If that doesn’t work, please contact customer service at our toll-free sales/service line Monday-Friday 9 AM to 8 PM Eastern time at 1-888-CAKEWALK (1-888-225-3925) or 617-423-9004 (outside the U.S.) or e-mail http://www.cakewalk.com/About/csr.asp.

Q: What are the hours of operation of for customer service?

A: You can contact customer service between the regular hours of 9 AM to 8 PM Eastern time, Monday-Friday. We will be monitoring the forums tonight and checking to make sure there are no major issues but phone lines will not be open.

Q: I qualified for a free upgrade to SONAR X1. When can I get my download?

A: Customers who qualified for the free upgrade by purchasing SONAR 8.5 on or after November 1st will receive an email on December 8th with information on how to redeem their download. Please be patient as we roll this out to all customers.

Q: Is there a prize for being the first person to post a picture on the forum with SONAR X1 installed on my computer?

A: Yes, first person who posts a picture of their computer with SONAR X1 installed in this post will get a free SONAR X1 coffee mug and pen (which will be available later this month on the store for purchase)

Q: Is there a prize for being the second person?

A: No

We thank you in advance for reading this FAQ. Enjoy SONAR X1!

Ok, since I can't check the store yet, is it broken down into sections?

Not quite what I was thinking.

Is Al Gore the frickin' CEO of Cakewalk now?

Every time I hear the word 'green' it translates in to, "Give me more of yours."

Yes it's broken down into sections. The main installer is broken into two 2.9 GB sections. then there's all the other stuff, also broken out into varying size sections.

I did a test download earlier from here in California and it took me 38 minutes for each 2.9GB part (@1.5MB/Sec).

Sonar X1 is really bringing the old farts out of the woodwork.....like ME!   It's been awhile since I've been in these parts, in fact I don't think I recognize a single name.  But, alas there is no time for making new friends now.  With a mere 12 minutes to go, I'm flexing my mouse button fingers and getting ready to click on the big download.

I knew I should have ordered that higher speed Internet last week!

    But, but . . . they said:

Q: Should I wait to download SONAR X1 when the volume of people will be less?

A: No. We have revamped the download system to scale up if required to handle the volume. The amount of people downloading SONAR X1 will not affect your download time.

I think the "download servers" are hosted in a different place/server set than the store.

The Cakewalk store is one of the worst places on Earth lol.

It's already a big mess.   To say it's slow would be a dramatic understatement.

They are. I was just having a little launch-day fun.  :)

Downloads are certainly all off on a high-capacity CDN . . . and the store is still on the store.

Sweetwater has the X1 Essentials upgrade online for the same price as Cakewalk. I'm just going to wait until they have X1 Producer upgrade listed and get it from them and save the $30.

Heh, it's not us.  I'm sorry to say (over and over, I know) the CW store is one of the worst online stores I've ever dealt with.   But, it's consistent at least.   (Consistently bad lol).

Haha, I'm tempted to, though ;)

Well, if they sold 10,000 upgrades last month and it takes one second to send out every email . . . we should all get our special download emails within three hours.

If they sold 100,000, then we'll get them within thirty hours.
