Anyone Else Notice a Shift in this Forum?

It seems there's much more emphasis on tips and techniques lately. What's more, some of the "feature request"-type threads have been resurrected versions of older threads, presumably to get some mindshare from the Bakers about attacking some long-standing bugs. Also, a lot of the questions are more about how the workflow works than about presumed bugs, and issues people are experiencing are getting a lot more specific.

I'd guess part of this is because we're between releases, and when the next release pops, there will be more to talk about. But I also think this means that the emphasis on stability that was going on behind the scenes prior to the January launch, and continuing since then with the updates, is making a significant difference. In any event I'm sure enjoying all the tips, and the threads where people have developed software accessories for SONAR are pretty impressive...I could never figure out how to do that stuff.

Let's hope that this is symptomatic of a mature DAW.  This is a much better place to hang out when we're  sharing tips and ideas than arguing about ticky-tacky BS.  Maybe having more moderators has helped keep order around here, in spite of the few minor flareups that I've seen.  Here's a toast to CW!

All the best,

Thats because we hosts delete all threads that are bug related.

Actually I just posted a few tips about mixing in a thread about levels.

There just isn't as much going on about bugs as there use to be. Maybe because there are way fewer bugs in Platinum?

I don't think that's the main reason, the mods are mostly about moving threads and things like that. It's that the community is, for whatever reason, contributing a ton of really useful tips and insights. There's always been that element, of course, but it seems to have increased considerably lately.

There's less traffic, the regulars aren't posting much (not sure why). And people are bored of bunfights.

There are fewer bugs in platinum but still there are enough for it to be of major concern. I think it's because people are seeing things fixed so don't have to be so vocal (more trust).

I think the general stability of Platinum (monthly/regular updates/bug fixes) with the active Baker involvement in improving Sonar has set a positive envirnoment/ease of mind for musicians be in the creative process rather than regularly being in the troubleshooting process.

+1 to the Bakers!!

I see it pretty much that way too Dok, seems quiet. Maybe not so much the more trust bit, a patience because it's not hoping for another fix release, it's knowing it's coming and frequently. Reassuring that fixes someone might be waiting may be around the corner.

It's been a fairly calm space with only a few exceptions that I've seen.

The community is definitely working though with tips and solutions to all sorts of problems from workarounds to workflow. As mentioned already there's the apps that folks have created that provide some handy functions and some not so small programs as well. I guess it's the being busy that's got most folks in a positive space.

The bakery is in full swing with a method now established, promoting a sense of reliability, not only in Sonar's month to month development, but all the behind the scenes stuff is getting worked on. The Cakewalk website is becoming more polished every month with more and more resources. Members are creating new content like how to's, videos, support apps, and control surface software. It's all happening.

Perhaps a "Tips" section would be cool.   Easy to find, organize and browse through.   I generally like the people on here and the topics discussed.  I find it very helpful and interesting to read.   I love making music, but I also love my DAW and like talking about all its features.

This is a good place for that!   I've learned so many tips from these forums.

some people see me as "troll-like" or "shifty", and I honestly don't try to be, why would I?   I just hold very high standards for myself and others.   For instance, the MIDI thread I brought up from 5 years ago... over 4 problem reports filed and still no fix.   For me, I find that sort of embarassing and makes the software look poorly coded (that you have to choose your USB controller, then go back to MIDI Omni, then go back to your USB controller again).  Every time I start a new track, I must do this 3-step process, and it's been this way for over 5  years!

I don't mean to be a debbie-downer.  I love the product, or I wouldn't be paying for it, right?  And I understand there will always be bugs when it comes to software.  I am actually a software engineer/technical writer for my career, so I get it - but long term issues like this, in my mind is simply not acceptable.

I don't get exactly why people find anything that is somewhat negative to be distasteful.   Sometimes a  little honesty is OK even if it is negative in nature.

Just look at my avatar!  That is the real me!  I am just a kitten riding a unicorn.

IMO, there are several really good reasons.  First, I think the folks that had something to say have finally finished.  Then there are (in no particular order) alprazolam, lorazepam, diazepam, clonazepam and related medications, along with wine and other relaxants.

You seem OK to me. I really like the question about the frequencies in modern VS vintage mixes. It made me think... I couldn't come up with much other than uhhhh duuuhh but I tried. http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3221802
Maybe someone up here will have better input. I'm interested to hear a more educated reason on why. Frankly, at first I made assumptions and misunderstood, then I re-read the OP and saw want an interesting question it is. Apologies for that.

When I first joined it seemed to have an "argumentative vibe" about it, so I went back into occasional visitor mode.
But I'm glad that I checked it out again, not just because of the tips and helpfulness, but the comradery and more sense of community.
When people work together more and compete a little less mountains can move.

But alas... just like floaters in a cesspool, crap always comes in waves either way.

Everyone can have something negative to say once in a while and that's not a problem. Being negative all the time gets to be irritating. I blocked a few of the serial grippers and it has improved my experience considerably. This site was a lifeline for me when I left my Roland VS-2480 behind. The culture of helpfulness reproduces itself. There are some recording Forums out there that feel like a Bus Station mens room to me. This place is a breath of fresh air; with a faint smell of becan.
Maybe just an ongoing tips thread in Techniques would be enough and not a whole Forum.
