The "Feedback Portal" is also a great idea. More than anything, I like the fact that there appear to be a focus on quality and core product improvement. I would encourage CW to also start a discussion regarding which plugins (such as legacy instruments and FX) can be discontinued in lieu of fewer and better plugins.

Tom Riggs Oh and plus 1000 for the Arranger track thingy.
Well in the spirit of pre-announcing things ...while you're waiting, check out the next "Friday's Tip of the Week." It shows how with one click+drag and one right-click+select, you can separate sections of a song into blocks you can then move around to change the arrangement. The week after that, I'll show how to create a simple scratchpad in SONAR which can have its own tempo, processing, looping, etc. It's real handy when you want to drag a verse or whatever over to the scratchpad, mess around with it without disturbing what's going on the main song, then bring it back in (or not, your choice).

mixmkr and apparently the upgrade from Editor 2/3 to Studio is $149 now. Seems like a $50 no brainer. I think there's a question whether Essential 4 will conflict with Editor 2 or not, if it is installed.
Damn... Celemony changed their upgrading schema somewhere along the way. The upgrade to Melodyne 4 Studio from "Any Editor" version is $149. I never really checked out that version before (since I assumed it kept the pitch/timing focus), but 1) it is a standalone "DAW" (i.e., can record into it) and 2) it has tempo control features that make AudioSnap look pale. It will pull a tempo map from an entire session and allow tweaking or importing back into another DAW. Gives a whole new definition to "easy peasy." New feature video is here for those interested (especially if you upgraded to Editor 2 during the X3 days).
ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.

Noel Borthwick [Cakewalk]
NeoSoul Here the promises are basically UI updates and updates to two 3rd party add ons. The little I've seen on Melodyne 4, makes me wonder how much the barebones Essential version actually gets. The more interesting Mulit-Track stuff they are adding doesn't seem like it would really apply to the monophonic version. I'm sure they will offer more....I'm just a bit curious what kind of "major" updates they have in store. If they said, here is what we expect Q1, that might be different. Interested to see what he bigger carrots are.
Obviously once we deliver these features there will be others. We don't believe in vaporware so we're only announcing features that are actually in development currently. There are some other deep features that will be announced later on. Also this hardly qualifies as "basically a UI update". It may not be that obvious from the feature descriptions, but the browser will be a humongous update in itself - its a brand new predictive way of working with content, plugins and instruments which will be a huge workflow upgrade in itself, for both experienced users as well as novices. The add track feature might seem small, but once you use it you won't want to go back to the old way since its way faster. These are all solid workflow enhancement features that will benefit all users.
YolandaSupercute Are we only going to see spring, summer, fall and winter updates this year? Or will it still remain a monthly thing? Just wondering... :)
No change from last year. We plan on having close to monthly drops. Some releases may have features some may have fixes and optimizations. Features will come online as they are available. We're working on some pretty big things so it might be a few months before they are ready for consumption, but other smaller features will come online earlier.
I, for one Noel, don't understand how you remain so calm...lol. Regards, Dan

I think I'm most excited to see what Editor enhancements are on the table. Please don't monkey with it too much, but just fix some of the idiosyncrasies we already deal with, and tweak a little if it warrants. But don't re-invent the wheel. Don't fix what isn't broken (PWEEEZE!!) And yes, the UI enhancements! I've been more pleased with the latest Skylight color schemes and such, but this could be interesting, and less and less requiring DuckBar, which I could never get working. Exciting!! Oh, and PLEASE review the collapse-able console strips. There's so much potential there!! Thanks so much for the efforts!!

Good to hear other things are in the works. I'd say it isn't obvious from the feature descriptions. The Track Fly Out sounds useful (the add tracks and the hidden by default routing) is cumbersome. Though I didn't see anything that suggested anything new, just a less step process due to a new user interface (i.e. UI) Help Module - no comment Mastering Effects Update - Pretty much says it is a UI update other than the Analyser (which will be appreciated, for sure) UI themes - yep UI update New Library - sounds like a new interface to access the same content that already exists. Feedback Portal - Many of us don't want to connect our DAW to the internet. I have no doubt it takes work to make these updates happen, I'm just suggesting most of them seem to be related to updates in the User Interface, the interaction and steps it takes to do pre-existing functions. These are in some cases certainly needed. Again, just curious what else is in store over the 6 month promise period.

To be honest, I made up my mind about renewing last fall when they incorporated Patch Points/Aux tracks. Granted, I personally benefited from that upgrade because I was involved in conversations about adding that functionality to Sonar, but to me, why that feature was implemented was even more impressive than the fact that it was implemented. Although I have no inside info, I'm quite confident that Cakewalk had absolutely no plans to implement track-to-track routing or aux tracks when they rolled out the new version last year. In fact, a few forum users were discussing how nice that functionality would be, and Cakewalk (I believe it was Noel) chimed into the conversation and pointed out that the functionality we were looking for already existed with busses. We explained use-case scenarios for how track-to-track routing could improve workflows, and a few weeks later, track-to-track routing was announced as in development, and not long after, implemented. It's obvious that while Cakewalk has their own vision for the future of their software and will do what they feel is best, they are also paying close attention to what users would like to see. I'm lucky that my request saw the light of the day, and maybe this year I won't be so lucky. But the fact that Cakewalk is taking an interactive approach to the evolution of their software is pretty freakin' awesome, as far as I'm concerned. That being said, I sure wish they'd allow an aux track to solo all tracks feeding it, just like a bus does. :) Great work, Cakewalk. Love the direction this is going, and hopefully a lot of other users get to experience the same thing I did last year when my wish list ended up under the Christmas tree. :)

I think various competitors might be curious as well... I'm pretty sure if Cakewalk has something revolutionary planned for, say, July they're not going to talk about it now and tip their hand, especially one week before the NAMM show. A very fair renewal price on what is a very solid DAW. I won't renew, though, because it lacks a feature very key to my workflow: pre-roll recording. If Cakewalk ever implements it, I'll be back in a second. For people who don't need the feature, renewal is probably a no-brainer.
