Check out the Cakewalk Software Facebook page for a teaser image they just posted.

Basically it's an infinity symbol, followed by an image of a laptop (Macbook...?), then a smiley. At the bottom is a yellow banner with some text. Kind of like this:

______________________________________________________

∞  |  laptop   |   :)

This yellow bar has been conveniently placed to hide top secret information.
Visit www.cakewalk.com on June 1st to see the entire picture.

I could just be about the lifetime upgrades but that smiley face is gonna make people think Mac. If they're not releasing a Mac version I hope they're ready for a few ornery people.

The rest of it certainly looks very Apple-esque.

Craig made a post/comment earlier in this thread that kind of made me think that a Mac version is part of the news.

I don't see myself using it but, if it increases the overall user base, it could open doors that benefit all of us.

As a diehard PC lifetime updater I cannot for the life of me see how a Mac version could benefit me in any way shape or form.

Maybe I'm just not seeing it properly, other than it keeps CW afloat for another 10-20 years (whilst I can still make music).

That's the way I am seeing it, Revenue!...

My guess, the potential merge, of some sort, into the Tascam line is probably inevitable. I get the feeling this is why Phone support really went away in April.

Hopefully the same Great phone support will return soon but probably still scheduled based upon the platform you're running Sonar on.

I don't use MACs either, but the more users they have the more money they can dedicate to make the software better.

Of course this assumes the revenue more than offsets the extra development work it takes to make a version that is also constantly compatible with MAC, which notoriously updates and software becomes incompatible.  However, with Sonars' rolling updates, I see that as a competitive edge over other DAWs that suddenly won't work on a MAC update.

Yes! Being able to so easily roll back to a previous version if a Mac update causes some conflict will be a God-send. Assuming, of course, a Mac version is indeed the big announcement.

That is very much a question of the development framework that Cakewalk uses.  Some frameworks are inherently multi-platform.  Others are not.  If 10% more development / support effort will allow a doubling of the user base over time, that's probably a good trade-off.  If the result, however, is that both platforms receive insufficient resources to thrive, that is bad for everybody.

Assuming this "YUGE news" is about Mac support, I would hope that those making such a decision would share some details about the business / development case with the users that have supported them all along.

I love Sonar, and have been a lifetime Cakewalk user, and wouldn't switch to a Mac if someone paid for me to, but having said all of that... I really don't think Mac people are waiting around for Sonar to be ported. They all think their options are better than Sonar anyway. It's like a snobby thing. I of course think Sonar is the best DAW, but I don't think any of them are waiting around for it... Which makes me think the big announcement being Sonar for Mac would be silly. But again, with THAT being said, I can see how anything that gets more people using it can be an overall better thing for the product and brand.

But with all THAT being said, I doubt it, and we'll know tomorrow :-)
