Hate to say it, but I agree.
Over the years I've seen several cases of cross-porting (or selling out) to Mac turning into the demise of some top-notch applications & plugins that were written specifically for the Windows PC world.

Even though I'm just a hobbyist and don't depend on Sonar to make a living, I would really hate to see its development spread thin between platforms, and perhaps see the over-all quality & feature set suffer in the long run.

Nothing against the Mac community -
I think they have plenty of really good DAWS to keep them occupied for the foreseeable future.

...
I still think it's going to be with Nektar.
Someone who wrote to them recently about a problem received a reply to the effect that they couldn't fix that problem at the moment as they're too busy with new software.

That would be very nice. I've been looking at the Nektar Panorama, and they have integration with many DAWs but not Sonar.

Does anyone remember a few years back when they announced an upcoming product that was supposed to be a groundbreaking super synthesizer?  And it turned out to be Beatscape?

I think we've been duped. Cakewalk intentionally created a monster speculation thread just to get some ideas on what to do next. There are some pretty good ideas in this thread. A lot are impractical, and some not really something most people would care about. So maybe there are half a dozen or so realistic ones that most people would like a lot.

So on June 1st we find out whose idea they chose that will be implemented some time in the future. That person will win not just a lifetime membership, but a membership to infinity and beyond.

Was there actually a second email sent out about the lifetime updates? I only got the one about the June 1st announcement as well. I own Sonar X3e Producer. Is this offer just for the Sonar Platinum owners?

The second email was for Platinum users who purchased Platinum last year and renewed using the one-time payment program earlier this year. The announcement for everyone else should be tomorrow.

Scook, I think this describes me; I didn't get a second email (I'm actually having trouble finding the first email as well). Was this connected to the newsletter?

I'm so confuzzled....

“Beer is proof God loves us and wants us to be happy” is attributed to Benjamin Franklin perhaps in error, but the thought remains a worthy sentiment nonetheless.

It'll be what it will be,I want it to be mac version of sonar, seems unlikely.Don't understand why people assume having a macversion would end up shorting the pc users.Propellerhead does it well, ableton does it,protools, and others,fl studio is working on it.They would have to hire more people obviously, now if cakewalk can't create a native ac sonar without screwing over those who use pc then they shouldn't make one.I think it would be wise to grow the company and add mac support, thats just an opinion though.

Just raise my hands and pray for the Mac rumors to be true. I am really sick of the boot camp and all the problems / BSOD I had..

Unfortunately a Mac version doesn't mean SONAR will automatically have fewer bugs. If anything, both the PC and Mac versions will probably end up having more bugs due to having to then spread resources thinner across two platforms. Unless the code is mostly cross-platform, but even that makes things more complicated compared to supporting just one platform.

I hear your point, but this is not necessarily a given, cakewalk would have to hire people to do mac version or just hire in general, they wouldn't have to be spread thin.

If what Apple did to logic after they acquired it from Emagic is any example (up until then it was dual platform), may they never be allowed to eat Cake!.

So, can I share this store link with my friends?
Please don’t. As a valued customer, we wanted to share this news with you first. Sharing the link with friends who may not be qualified for the offer will only create confusion and frustration for them, and more work for us. On June 1st, we’ll announce details for all SONAR users. Remember, this special offer is only for you.

[edit - forgot this bit]
Can I spread this news across the internet?
We thought it might be a cool social experiment to keep this news between us. Are you up for the challenge? If people do ask, we’ll deny it :)

Despite having always been opted in to the newsletter, I've never, ever, had one. Not even one to encourage me to renew my membership when it expired a few months back. Although having waited over 3 months to get a response from customer support last year, I can't really see the point in renewing my subscription. I've also checked the renewal options in my account and can't see anything about a lifetime subscription, just another year for $99.

Oh then if this was all a ploy to get ideas.

Well then, I hope my open source speculation comes as "gee that's a good idea. Ron"  So I could add two calls to the Control Surface API, GetEffectStripNum() and GetProChannelStripNum().

The lack of both calls in the Control Surface API have been overcome here but it took a village, many man hours and lines of code to do it. And yes, it's important to know what strip the control surface ACT focus is when there are many of the same like the Console Emu for example. And as of X2a and beyond, This fx or pc stripnum is not necessarily just the current selected strip now, is it? :-)

Ok, Rant over.
