LOL, so they announce in May that they are going to announce on June 1st, that in the fall you can start alpha-testing the Mac version of Sonar that is probably going to be released in 2017 ? :D

Yes, I hope there are more news

Something "Big News" for us PC users would be nice too. They say they have listened, so I guess they have got a massive demand for Mac version  . That is great!

Not that I need any big news, but when it has been hyped for so long, I expected something BIG for the pc version to be honest.

I am rather tired of the usual Windows drama that seems to come and go... not sure if OSX will be any better

Even with "tighter OS/hardware integration", Apple had a mess when releasing El Capitan.
Some companies are still trying to iron out the problems (months after initial release).
ie: Line-6 released a dedicated beta audio driver for Helix (specifically to address issues introduced in El Capitan)... as so many were having dropout/disconnect problems.

I have missed Sonar since I quit Windows and went Mac - this is great news!
I guess SoS was a little quick on revealing the news, eh?

Call me less than excited.    My prediction: Resources will likely be shifted to Mac development, then there will be PC and Mac Versions with different features and capabilities, and the PC version will eventually become the stepchild. The programming world tends to be very Mac-centric, and the attitude is usually "we'll develop this new idea on the Mac, then do a half-assed implementation on the PC."

Ok, when looking at : http://www.cakewalk.com/June-2016 there are actually 3 spots for announcements. So what will be the third one, that would correspond with that smiley in the Facebook teaser ? :P

I don't mind at all that they're working at Mac. I think that's great. I'm just very deflated that the big announcement that we've been so excited about doesn't affect me.

This is a good point, I think.  The whole Microsoft business strategy is in doubt and they simply aren't as reliable as they might have been in the past.  Microsoft seems to be meandering around with different visions for Windows.  One day it is a way to make your desktop look like a gigantic 30 pound cell phone, as if anybody wanted that.  Obviously nobody wanted their phones, and almost nobody wanted that Metro interface on the desktop.  These days, the strategy is to give away the OS for free, but load it up with layer upon layer of "monetizing features".

If you are in Cakewalk's shoes, you must have some concern about this eventually being a dead end.  I think it would be wise to get some independence from the OS provider.  Personally I have zero interest in every owning any Apple products, but it is a substantial customer segment.

Nobody has mentioned Linux platforms.

Time will tell, but I will be very surprised if windows dev doesn't slow to a crawl, hence the end of monthly big feature updates and the rollover to lifetime fixes:(

They would develop for both side by side. Both platforms will be identical. Most people don't realize that PC and MAC software are written identically for the most part. Just compiled differently.

That's true once both versions are fully operational, but surely there be will be much more to do on the OSX side initially given that alpha testing starts next fall, which is still a very long way from a full release?

Noel emphatically said they have no plans to stop or slow down with monthly SONAR updates. Maybe you should consider reading and absorbing the whole thread before making such accusations.

But the parts that are not core code, but interface - are critical for performance and issues.

I remember 3-4 years ago - running Reaper - there were serious issues with Mac version performance and scanning plugins.

Exactly how threads get priority are also critical in a realtime processing like audio and GUI.
How Windows handles events are also different from how Mac OSX works.

Mac version of Digital Performer has been around forever, almost. When releasing Windows version two years ago - I tested last christmas last time - and it still use double cpu for same project compared to other Windows daws I tested on.

So it's not quite that simple...optimizing takes very different measures on different platforms.
