"Upgrading from Sonar Professional, I have no complaints whatsoever. CbB detected all the tools from previous Cakewalk installs plus I got some extras and I'm happy with things as they are."

I too would be upgrading from Professional. Is there anything in the separate content download that I wouldn't already have in my current installation or should I skip it? Sorry, screwed up the quote somehow but this was RT DeBro.

No, the additional content is the Artist Instrument Collection already bundled with Professional. Skip it. But do check out the zoom option in the QuadCurve EQ. That was not part of Professional and is part of the CbB you just installed.

Also, can anyone confirm whether or not native bitbridge functionality is in this or not? I've read through this entire thread and there is conflicting information.

Awesome. I see several people complaining that their 32 bit vst's are missing. I'm guessing they are just not setup to scan the appropriate folder paths then.

Re: ‘Cakewalk By BandLab’ is here. Free. Available for Windows now. [4/4/2018] 2018/04/06 19:35:56 (permalink)
Luckily I have many friends and clients musicians. I had no difficulty getting access to almost all the daws in the industry, and I have been studying each one of them little by little in recent years because my clients have different Daws and also out of curiosity since I could get access.

I have access to Bitwig Studio 2.3, Mixcraft Acustica, Studio One, Cubase 9.5, Ableton Live 10, FL Studio, Reaper, Protools, Logic

If there is something Sonar does not have, it's an inefficient interface. ProChannel is one of the most useful and efficient tools for producers who use little CPU. FL for example has a very confusing interface for new users, it is not an intuitive interface, but made its reputation not because it is an intuitive Daw but because it was in the hands of the right people. Several Beatmakers love the FL because it has a system of loops facilitated but for there, is not something that you install and leave using in 5 minutes. If one is mistaken, one thinks that FL is a Daw for musicians who do not know how to play.

I live in Brazil, and Daw is making great success is Live. Because again it is in the hands of people who work with electronic music and I know many young people who want to be DJ. I believe it's all marketing issues and putting in the hands of promising musicians who have become very relevant with time. In Live I see that there are a number of people that rely heavily on the use of loops to use on the tracks was something that Ableton actually offered in Lite and made its users get used to it. So I found it quite interesting how the loops are organized by Bandlab, reminded me a bit about the Magix Music Maker scheme.

The Sonar is ready to go, now has a business model that competitors will really care about, Reaper makes great fame with its free template. Promoted to be a great Daw.

With so much time analyzing and observing the Daws, I saw that the key point is who is using Daw and makes inspire new musicians. FL as he said he was successful with the Beatmakers. Live success with electronic music and its model of Ableton Live Lite that had in all possible hardware, not counting compatible hardware and huge packages of loops to facilitate, midis drivers made for Live.

On the other hand, Protools is out there today, because Avid is very aggressive with marketing. Because Protools has a quantum of annoying bugs, nor by far is the best for midi, I have seen many users suffering from the transition to AAX. Putting Daw in the hands of musicians, promising artists is something that Cakewalk and Bandlab need to act soon enough. This Daw is now free. Need a MAC version of this form too.

Studio Gears:
Interfaces: Roland, Allen & Heath and Other
Native Daw: Cakewalk by Bandlab
Midi Controllers: Roland A88, Akai LP8, Arturia Keylab 61 Essential, M-audio Oxygen 61 V3

PC Setup: Core I7 6700 4.0, Corsair 8GB 2400mhz, 1TB
Note Setup: Intel Core i7-3612QM CPU @ 2.10GH, Corsair 16GB (1600mhz)

Yes, a scan path issue. CbB is a new product/upgrade not an update. The install process does have an option to get some settings from the old product but scan path is not one of them. It is a good idea to review all the preference settings.

Checked it out real quick but haven't had a chance to dig in. I'm a Splat refugee (yeah, bought life time update too). I had issues with CbB  loading vst's and vsti on start up (Waves, Air, Valhalla to name a few) so trying to figure what was going on took up most of the time I had available (it all worked in Splat before but I didn't have time to double check after update to see if anything was affected). I'll stick around and see what's to come. Hoping for good things. Will see. For now, I'll use plan B (which has become plan A). I've used cakewalk products for a long time so I'm hoping things get figured out. If I get more time this weekend, I'll try to dig in and see what's up. I will say, that for the moment, my experience with the CbB doesn't give me a "warm fuzzy" feeling. Not everyones experience may be the same. Others may have great success. I'm just telling it like it is for me so others who are having difficulties know they are not alone and that the Bakers can be aware of issues.

Installed without problems. Feel so relieved, I have maybe 2000 songs made by Cakewalk/Sonar (used it since 1997) and to have them more secured is such a relief. I already got Studio One, but transferring the projects is slow and works unlogical. In theory its easy and you can just drop the files, but for some reason some clips/tracks just fails to transfer and it can take a long time. But this new situation helps with the pressure to have the projects secured and I am looking forward what is about to happen in future with Cakewalk.

I can sympathize. I have been moving a fair number of old songs from Logic to SPLAT/CBB over the years and although I finally came up with a method that works well every time, it is still tedious. I have nowhere near 2000 songs. All I can say is I'm glad that you no longer have to worry about it unless you want to.

First off let me say a heartfelt thank you to all you at bandlab...I had my wallet in hand ready to pay for Sonar platinum, only to find that they closed the store three weeks before I got there. So having you offer the new version for free makes me very happy.
Two small concerns, neither is a deal breaker, I have been using cakewalk since HS4 in those days all you had were 32 bit plug-ins so in order to keep using all the ones I had gotten used to I stayed 32 bit all these years. Are you going to release a 32 bit version of the new DAW? if not no HUGE deal I will just have to go download the 64 bit version of EVERY plugin I own...lol  that will take some time but it can be done

Second I checked the About Cakewalk screen and it says this new versions is only valid through October.  What happens then?

There are no plans to release a 32bit version of CbB.
The date is a placeholder needed to get the early release out the door. It will be removed soon.

Thanks for the info.  I plan on donating to the cause. and as I said in my previous post I can migrate to world of 64 bit...honestly I should have done it already I have already found a work around for most of the instruments so aside from it being a major pain in the backside I will live

Had just started research to build a new computer for my new (in construction) recording/mixing studio when I learned Gibson was dropping Sonar. Devastated, so I've kind of been on hold... but now that Bandlab has taken the reigns I'm going forward with the project including the new computer build. I purchased two SSD drives because I wanted to seperate the core software from the vst files and plugins etc. I've read through the entire thread and couldn't find anyone addressing my exact question directly. It sounds like the best way to do this now is to download Sonar Platinum (I purchased life time subscription) from Command Center and all the plug-in's that came bundled with it, and my NI Komplete 11 stuff to my new computer and get it all configured, then download the new Cakewalk from Band lab and reconfigure if needed. Does this sound about right!

Seems reasonable. You can save some time if you already have the SONAR Platinum installers. After installing the Command Center, copy the installers into the download folder (the default location is C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Command Center\Downloads). The Command Center will skip downloading, if it finds the installers in the cache.

Can I still install and activate my legacy Sonar Professional?

There have been recent reports of people using the Command Center to install Cakewalk products. I have not installed any Cakewalk products in some time but have connected to the servers today with the Command Center.

Yes. It's a good idea to do so, because you'll pick up a few plugins and instruments (e.g. Lounge Lizard, TruePianos) that aren't included in CbB. I used CCC just last week to install SPlat on a laptop.

However, once you've installed SONAR there's no need to actually use it because CbB is essentially SONAR Platinum. You'll be gaining several Platinum features that weren't in Professional (e.g. Vocal Sync, PC76, console emulator, Breverb).

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

so no pow-r dithering, no session drummer in CbB... but what about the drum replacer and it's content, is izotope radius mix algo for audio pitch/stretching still there? and what about bark in the dog by boz prochannel module?

can't check myself... I'm still on 32bit

How long should it take to download/install? It said it was a self extracting file so I started downloading it before I went to run an errand about 2 hours ago. I've been home about half an hour and it still says installing, without an active status bar.

Okay... I too hung on "Installing" on the first try, but after a reboot, I was able to find the downloaded install and run it with no issues. It found everything except my USB audio codec. I run a Yamaha MW10 as my input and output, and it's not picking that up. I can playback through the internal sound card, but I cannot record. I am wondering what I need to do for Cakewalk by Bandlab to recognize my USB device. Any thoughts??? Splat still functions, so I'll be using it until I can iron out this latest wrinkle.

I found where to enable the USB audio codec this afternoon, so I'm in pretty good shape now.
