Re: ‘Cakewalk By BandLab’ is here. Free. Available for Windows now. [4/4/2018] 2018/04/09 15:49:40 (permalink)
I finally had time to run CbB this morning.  I installed last Friday, but with friends here from out of town, doing audio work was not in the cards.  We hit the strip and they paid for the buffets, drinks and other goodies.  They had never been to Hoover dam before either.

Anyway the program copied all my plugs over, the start screen was the same and CbB also picked up my settings for the VS 100.  The ACT copied with no problems so my vs 100 fired up and away we went.  I had to authorize the AD2 drums and keys but it was the same after some Win 10 updates.

My thanks to Meng, Noel and all the staff at Bandlab for keeping the dream alive.

Win 10 Pro x64, 32Gb DDR3 ram, Sonar Platinum, Cubase 9.5, Mackie MCU Pro, Cakewalk VS 100, Roland Octa-Capture,  A 800 Pro, Carver M-1.5t amp & C4000 pre amp, various mics, drums and brass instruments.

And away we go!

Hello
I just download Cakewalk by Bandlab the installation went smooth but I can't register
it's telling me the serial number is invalid.
I follow the instruction to register but didn't happen, the serial number looks weird, something like:
COBO-1,00-999999-999999-(2002,-99)
is any body having this problem.
thanks

Assuming you installed CbB using BandLab Assistant and BandLab Assistant was logged into your BandLab account, the error code (2002,-99) is probably the one they are working on right now. The demo mode thread is here and the problem you are seeing is discussed near the end of the thread.

Thank you very much to Bandlad & Cakewalk crew!!! this release is much appreciated. I have a version of software with some lovely extra features now :))))). I even had a look at the Bandlab app having never encountered their software before, but it's chrome based, and i dont have that or really want it on my computer.  Pretty much seamless install of C.b.B. - only issue i got is Rapture Session pluguin hasn't appeared. anyone encountered that and have a solution ?

Compare your SONAR Preferences > File > VST Settings "scan path" to CbB. All the plug-ins bundled with SONAR should appear in CbB.

sorted, also recovered z3ta+, because i have Sonar X3 and Sonar Steam Edition installed already the vsts for the Steam version are in a different location to normal..

I added the 2 folders below to get the 64 bit Rapture Session VST3 and the 32bit version of z3ta+
C:\steam\steamapps\common\cakewalk\vstplugins\z3ta+
C:\steam\steamapps\common\cakewalk\x64\vst3

(replace C:\steam with wherever your steam library is installed)

If anyone else is using steam version also and has similar issue :)

Out of hospital and finally ready to try the new Cakewalk by BandLab.
Installed like a dream on my win7x64 i5/8GB laptop system.
The problems with the current project I was working on in SPLAT, sorted itself out in this release.
I don't have a high powered system, and have the impression things work faster now.
Thanks a million :)

Edit : For the Paranoid. I Installed with my anti virus on, no complaints or warnings whatsoever.

Anyone know how i can activate the  CA - 2A demo to the full version without spending time cracking it or how i can get hold of some the other cakewalk plugins i have had on my wish list for a minute?

Also I would like to wish Band labs the Best of Luck, and not to forget they are playing with serious software that is used by serious people.

Some people are still having trouble believing that this product is free and is a complete product with no tricks. I confess I had this mistrust. I talked to Noel quickly on facebook he said right about it. In the difficulty of people believe a free and high level software. Cakewalk, Bandlab: urgently withdraw that message of validity that says 04.10.2018 There are people spreading news out there that after this dasta the software will be paid. I was offering a client that has the legacy version of platinum today, he worried about that. I had to explain everything until he understood I could download it.

I have thought long and hard about my feelings about this.

Overall: Happy and excited for what is to come

I really don't understand how many folks are upset when what we all hoped for was that the "lifetime updates" would be honored for those of us who bought into it at the time, even when others scoffed at the notion and what we got instead is that the same lifetime updates are now being honored for all.  Do I hold jeolosy for those who now get it for free when many of us paid: Absolutely not.  I got what I paid for and then some compared to the masses that paid for the Platinum Subscription.

I am planning on doing a full Blog post on my website along with a Video Log to explain all of the thought I have on the matter and how grateful I am for the company BandLab for picking up the Cakewalk IP and giving it life again.  I only hope that some of the other things I've been exposed to since the Sonarpocolypse at Studio One will be incorporated into the future CbB product and that the fresh new ownership will lead to development that is not stifled by the almighty profit machine that IS big business (like Roland or Gibson were).

Pretty painless experience so far. Installation went easy peasy. Loaded the last project I was working on without a hitch.
Very happy about the communication along the way. Very glad some of the former team is onboard.
The name is perfect! This has been a Cakewalk so far, and I'm happy for the homage to the previous versions.

I'll dig in a little deeper when I get the chance, but very impressed and appreciative.
Thanks!

Installing cakewalk by bandlab side by side with platinum changed the language of platinum version to my language (portuguese). Also cakewalk doesn't use shared mackiecontrol.ini (customized by me to use with mcu pro and c4 pro). Will investigate further. Good Job and Thank you very much for returning us our beloved DAW. Installed CbB alongside of SPLAT, it was all running like a Charme. Got to copy one path for vst-search, now it's all there, SPLAT in my language, Cakewalk in English, Bandlab assistant is up to date. Easy.

One thing I have noticed - Cakewalk / SPLAT has a menu command "utilities/share with soundcloud". Time to make Bandlab available here  too, don't you think so?

And please - the colour of the desktop symbol is harsh and nasty . . . come on . . .

Cheers

1) How do you specify folder locations, audio locations, and vst settings during install?
I got no options when using the exe and it dumped everything on to my C drive.
2) I am a Platinum subscriber currently doing a clean install. If I install the bandlab version, how much of the platinum content is installed with it? Do I have to install everything from my old account first?
3) How do I tie the accounts to one another?

0) Perform the Platinum install first.
1) discussed here. This may change in future releases (just like it did for SONAR).
2) The Cakewalk.exe is similar to running the SONAR Platinum installer only. The Instrument.exe is the same as the Artist Instrument Collection skip if Artist/Professional or Platinum aready installed.
3) Make sure your BandLab account has the same email address as your Cakewalk Account

Hello, I have my bandlab tied to my Sonar products.  However, the forum account is a different email and I can't change it for some reason.  Does that matter, will it affect install or use?

I have read all 20 pages.  I haven't had the chance to download and try this out, but I'm very excited to and hope to get the chance in the next week or so.

I have one more question:  I have heard about exporting and the dithering has been removed.  But, how about exporting to MP3?  A while back that was an addon option by 3rd party Landr, but then standard in Splat, so i'm curious if that is still available now in CbB?

Just a heads-up to those, like me, with older Windows computers. BandLab Assistant for Windows will not install on 32-bit systems.

Hi Dave.

How I have understood it, if you go ahead with the install like this ... you will end up with the stripped bare bones version of CB, or cakewalk Home version if you choose to install the extras. It is necessary to sync the emails of your BandLab and your Cakewalk accounts, for the features from SPLAT to merge with the CB. Maybe you can sync your Cakewalk address to match the BandLab one ?

I don't use Landr, but I see it has a tab under utilities (Like in SPLAT) after the install.

CbB recognized and hooked up to my X Touch which runs in Mackie (MC) protocol, so all is well there.
Being you customized you may have to set up from scratch to store your control surface settings in CbB.

Exporting to MP3 is still there.
Dithering wasn't removed, just the Pow-r dithering choices, as they entail licence fees but BandLab are looking into this with the aim of restoring them if possible.

Can someone list exactly which plugins/instruments/ProChannel modules are included with the basic installation? Like was clearly visible on Cakewalk's feature comparison page?

If I own Platinum, and don't install it (i.e. on a fresh Windows installation) can I still include what's missing somehow? Or do I have to use command centre to install an entire copy of Platinum and all plugins/instruments, then install Cakewalk by Bandlab?

I also have the same questions :-)

From what I can understand CbB is the core program of Platinum, not sure what instruments are included if any.

To get access to the likes of Dim Pro, Rapture, Rapture Pro, Z3ta+2(which were separate purchases) you would need to run their respective installers.  This could be through CCC or if you still have the original installers in the CCC download directory.  If you do not have them I would highly recommend downloading them from your old Cakewalk account or through the CCC.

Any third party plugins are no longer licensed i.e. AAS, True pianos, Bluetube, etc.  However if they are installed on your system they still work you just need to add their paths to the VST scanner.

So if I want to run Sonar as I have for over a decade, I'm stuck with you and the guy who reminds me of a used Buick salesman from the welcome video? The guy with the really bad and cheap tat?

Hello! Is there any support available for installing Cakewalk by Bandlab? I'm getting a couple of errors when I try to install. I'm a longtime Cakewalk/Sonar user and looking forward to a new era with Bandlab.
