I sent the feature request along with a short personal letter.  I don't know if a purely canned response would be taken seriously.  It bugs the crap out of me when people send them to me.  LOOKING TO REFINANCE YOUR HOME?

"Making music faster and easier" is ok by me. I don't feel like I deserve to be on any list but you guys are great and have my support...go for it I'm cheering in the background.

If we are speculating, let's do it properly: I believe that if we could really take the time to explain to every user the type of improvements we are suggesting, the percentage would be much higher. If we reduce it to the pure essence of what we want, "Making music faster and easier", I doubt any sane Sonar user would be against it. In other words, 1,000,000 people support our efforts. We just lacked the time to call them all.

Undertow...you all reached me...I see a light

Meno...John Andres` Grande... "Sonar Pro Newbie"

Thanks, Meno! Your support is very much appreciated! And I agree, Undertow is very persuasive. :)

Very nicely done.  This is an impressive effort - and thanks for undertaking it.

I definitely agree with the items on the list, and would especially like to see envelopes that don't break down, delete unpredictably, or get out of sync after a "Delete Hole" operation (particularly bus envelopes.

Please add me to the list.  I'll be navigating to the FR page as soon as I post this.

EDIT: FR submitted.

Thank you for your support, your name has been added! With you 100% on the envelopes. :)

I'm not sure if you have space for #11, but the loop explorer really needs to have tempo sync'd loops for those loops that aren't already acidized and a volume control.
Apparently that is one we don't have to worry about any more. From the 8.5.2 update list:

Alex Westner [Cakewalk]
Media Browser
  • New mode to preview any audio/MIDI content in sync with project tempo

Cheers,

...wicked

Well, 8.5.2 just released, at least there's that.

OK! Let me explain it better

The idea is to 'Consolidate' ALL Cakewalk softsynths content into the ONE extremely powerful plugin., with the capability to load/Playback  ANY file format.  No need to mess around with multiple plugins within the project or risk dropouts and other errors due to third-party plugins, particularly freebies with poorly written code.

An extremely powerful Centralised Sample/Instrument Plugin.....

. Highly optimized handling/playback!  Also ideal for 'live' on stage use.

. Able to load/import 'any file format' ALL sound library content including NI, IK and others, with options for direct bounce from another plugin source (such as NI, IK or whatever), or via any audio track source...

. Unlimited Multi-Timbral ability! Can load unlimited instruments/parts with Unlimited Midi Chn and Output assigns (limited to PC capability).  For example on a Core i7 PC you could load up 128 instruments, ideal for building orchestral work, filmscoring all from just the ONE motherload of a massively powerful plugin.

. Further Optimised options for each part such as; reduce bit/sample rates, adjust polyphony.

. Very nice, integrated content browser!  Whatever sounds you have on your H/Drives can be accessed! The browser has options to organise, categorise, create new folders, remove files (does not permanently delete from the HD), delete user created folders.  Include a powerful search function and audio preview. (much like the file browser but totally integrated in this plugin)

. 16 Pads included where you can Auto-Map! A simple n quick 'one-click process' (simply select up to 16 sounds and click Auto-Map) and have those sounds accessible on the pads for rhythm/beat creation.  Also able to be triggered via hardware electronic drum kit/pads, and also Roland could develop an affordable hardware 16 Pad controller.

. Default screen displays a simplified sound editor that's ideal for quick edits, but with option for far more advance sound editing features such as; ADHSR, various Modulators, LFO's, advance Filters including the usual Resonance, Cut-Off, various velocity parameters, key-range, trim and stretch -(resampling), transpose, detune, fine-tune.   Amost all these parameters can also be controlled via Midi CC# Automation and via External Controllers.  Roland could develop hardware that perfectly integrates including foot-switches and small hand-held remote. Ideal for 'Live' on stage use.

. Integrated Vol and Pan parameters with dedicated FX's readily accessible via integrated FX-bin, include a new Pulse Effect (similar to an arpeggio, ideal for easily creating rhythms/motions/sweeps).  All these FX's parameteres can be controlled by Midi CC# Automation or via hardware controllers.

.

YES now your talking similar to my idea for amp sim rack except it's a seperate host. The foot controller integration is key for me. The whole seperate host thing was kind of what P5 was and we could probably do with something  more useful along the lines of a kore mixed with cantabile and auto map by novation.  Alot of people need to use multiple computers to do work and having this on a seperate computer and being able to work over a network like fx teleport would be cool as hell because I want to get me a new computer and I sure don't want to reload all my soft synths and ampsims on the new i7. I want it to be my daw only.

cool, it worked...although i don't understand why it's not the default.  surely you'd want all your loops to play at the project tempo instead of having to deliberate select each clip?

Regarding video: <i>Clip Boundary Now Time: An option so that when selecting a clip, the Now Time moves to the front edge of the clip instead of the place you click with the mouse </i>

I hate to sound like an idiot but this seems to imply that we can already add more than one video clip to the timeline. I was told recently in another thread we can only have one.
Please let me know if there is a way to add several clips in 8.3.
If not it seems this wouldn't be that hard to implement...and I'm not suggesting multiple tracks, just a single track where we could add clips, slip edit, fade and dissolve.
This would give a lot of control to people that do a lot of music montages.
BTW, this list is wonderful!!!

This is a great thread. I guess I'm late to the party as usual. I'm a heavy PRV user and would like to see the main "track view" changed so that the entire PRV can be instantiated in the entire right-hand panel of the track view. That means that the split between the buss portion and the track portion would not exist in the right-hand panel. As a matter of fact, I noticed a suggestion to make all track types equal track=bus, etc. This would obviate the need for the splitter. In any case, I'm looking for something like this, which is substantially different from what you get in the tabbed view:

Hey Bill,

That's a cool idea.  Here's a similar idea someone posted a while ago which I think is also good:

Notice track 5.  Imagine if you could do this for all MIDI tracks with one click

Take care!

Yes, Jose, that sure is a great idea. The track-by-track staff representation works exceptionally well. I'd be happy with that representation in place of the staff view.

In both cases, having all of the track controls--volume, pan, velocity, etc--available in the same view in which you're working beats the minimal "track list" thing that's currently on the PRV and staff view.

   +1,000,000,000,000,000,00

This is one of the best idea's ever, so simple, so elegant, extremely practical as it allows greatly enhanced workflow, access to and from PRV to Track-View and option to view the Inspector also.  With this view I probably wouldn't need to open the mixer.

I love this idea, I want it!

Also, keyboard shortcuts should apply as it would in the PRV in the above 'new' fantastic view.

Use the split-screen the dev's will say!?!  Yeah right but it's nowhere near as good.  :-(

Those are all great suggestions.  I would be extremely excited if #1 was implemented.  The others are all worthy to the same degree.  And I thought there was nothing left to do to make Sonar better...

I think that if both of these get implemented, we would be in heaven :-)

To take these ideas to the next step, I think Cakewalk should start merging other views in a similar manner.  For example, as found on the request list, having the Tempo and Key/Meter Views available in a separate track above the Track View, like in Logic Pro, would also be great.  If we combine all of these, you can have up to 4 different Views in one screen (Track, PRV, Key/Meter, Tempo; OR Track, Staff, Key/Meter, Tempo).  The beauty is that all of these views are relevant to each other and this makes them easily accessible to the user.  No more stopping your work to get to the other Views.  Seemless workflow!

So Cakewalk, when can we expect to see this? :-)

Please!  Cakewalk, these ideas posted recently are absolutely brilliant!!  A MUST HAVE!!  You have got to give priority to the development of this before some other competitor see's it and beat you to the punch.  I strongly suggest Cakewalk releases an 'exclusive update', do whatever it takes!  I would PAY for that update alone based those UI enhancements, because those new features would revolutionise workflow, speed up the workflow tenfold. :-)

Come on Cake!  SONAR 8.6  Exclusive Update,  I garantee it will be an unparalleled, unrivaled success ;-)

I'm glad you all like this. This was a compromise to my ultimate implementation, which would give us empty frames into which we could add visual "components", such as a video strip, the piano roll or staff, individual track elements or a complete "tracks" strip, etc. to the empty frame, dock them and orient them as we choose. Sort of a dynamic, build-it-yourself approach to what are now static views. Sort of like what Jose suggested above. I've written apps like this before and the up front development cost can be a bit high when you're reengineering and componentizing an existing system, especially one as complex as SONAR, but the payoff is huge.
