If you have ezdrummer it's $99.99 and a $20 gift card at audiodeluxe. On kvr forum you can get it below $80 when it appears. Smallstonefan on here has a cheap crossgrade going if you pm him.

The $99 helped my decision. I'll be awaiting a $49 post from cclarry.

Yeah, $49 seems to be reasonable. It will be hard to pay the same as the upgrade to Superior.

clintmartin http://www.toontrack.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=139777 This makes me feel better about the whole thing. Now I guess I need to decide if I want to do nothing, upgrade to EZ2 or go Superior.
I guess if you like your EZDRummer 1...then forget EZ 2 because they won't co-exist...

Yeah, I actually like that idea. That means when and if I upgrade, One download will fix and organize everything. I hate moving folders around.

I'm sure that will deter a lot of "upgraders", as they won't want to re-do everything....
I won't be on board, unless they do something completely earth-shattering... but, at $99....I'm out...it will be a holiday sale event thing...if ever..

As I understand it, You won't have to redo anything. Previous mixes with EZ1 will still load and sound the same with EZ2. I'll have to wait and see why they think I would want it instead of Superior.

I went back and had a look at EZdrummer and for the life of me I really can't figure out why it's the number one selling drum VST on the market as claimed by toontrack in the video. Perhaps when it was first released 8 years ago there was nothing else in that price range ? I think BFD 1 would have been a lot more expensive but AFAIK it came out before EZdrummer but today cakewalks very own session drummer is easily as good although lacking in expansion kits in comparison but with the addition of addictive drums in X3 I'm surprised people are using EZdrummer at all with so many better options out there now. Since the video says nothing about new features other than what's visible I'm interested to see what it offers, especially the ground breaking new features. I like the look of the new midi clip arranger, looks similar to BFD Eco's but the clips are coloured which I like. I wonder if toontrack will let people get there hands on a trial version, I don't think they have done in the past but since XLN and fxpansion do perhaps they'll reconsider ? Steve

EZD was the first drum software that I bought. What I liked about it as a songwriter:
1. The midi grooves are very basic and not overly played. 2. The patterns are very well described and laid out for ease drafting a song. 3. The kit parts were easy to load, change and route to Sonar.
When one first starts using midi, it can be rather intimidating. EZD proved to be a very easy to use training ground for me. I still love the way they layout and describe the patterns, especially the fills, by dividing them into 1/4, 1/2 and full measure fills. The way there lay out and describe the cymbals is also very nice for Verses and Chorus's; no guess work, very fast to lay out.

So apart from the midi loops which I have to agree are very usable and well organised what else makes it the number one selling drum vst ? AFIK the routing method in all drum vst's is exactly the same, they all allow you to select an output at the bottom of each channel strip. As for midi loops I never use them as I prefer not to have my creativity sublimated by outside forces, I'm weird like that According to the TT advertising, their 20 expansion kits gives users access to by far the most extensive and versatile catalogue of drum sounds on the market ? Really ? I thought that seemed like an extravagant or over optimistic boast and counted 22 for BFD Eco as well as some other third party kits. Steve

I have both SD2 and EZ Drummer. It looks to me EZD2 will be integrated with EZ Player which I also own. All geared to songwriting. I think there will be disappointment and no real advancement for recording with it. Also, my two cents, I use SD2 with EZ Drummer kits. I have many. EZ Drummer kits are cheap at $39 and sound great. When you put them in SD2 you can control the bleeds better and mix in different pieces from different kits among other things. A very nice setup. SD2 is the way to go for recording.

You would definitely be a candidate for a drum sampler like Superior 2 or BFD. They have announced that EZD2 will include two new libraries and to my ears they sound really good. My favorite feature has been the integration of midi grooves in EZD and in EZD2 it gets better. But then, there are some features that enhance what you can do with the samples as well. I won't guarantee that EZD2 will make the socks run up and down your ankles for everyone but for an EZD lover like me, I wouldn't want to go back since working with EZD2. I've got things working in projects that simply can't be done in EZD. And for the skeptics, there will be a point in time where the development costs will be covered and prices will go down and, as they say, never say "never."

I would disagree with the last statement and at a point in time, you'll see why. But yes, there is a bit of EZplayer like features - but EZP on energy drinks.

Not meaning to sidetrack this thread from EZD2, but I was installing EZ Drummer and Superior (after downloading it from my account at Toontrack) on my new machine and the installer stated both were successful. However, I can't find/see the standalone icons on my desktop nor in the Toontrack folders......only the .dll VST's for each are in Cakewalk's VST folder. I looked in both the 32 bit & 64 bit folders, but no luck.....(EZ Keys however, installed and showed up on the desktop/correct folder path as it should). Do I need to uninstall and install with the original DVD's for this to show up? or am I missing something obvious here??

They both use Toontrack Solo for standalone play. It is a separate download and install. The zip should be located in the EZD and SD2 download areas. You only need to install one copy it works with both products.

And that info IMHO lets me know IM IN when it gets here. The ability to swap kit pieces ala SD2, the "power hand" option and drum hit controller sounds good enough...but when you toss in 5 completely new kits and extra snares and kicks all recorded by Chuck Ainly...yowsa!!

I'm still out. $49 upgrade and I'll buy...
Song designer is ALA EZKeys, which I like. With EZ, Eco, BFD2, BFD 3, Session Drummer, SD, and SS EX...and all the kits I have...I'm pretty well set.
Swapping Kit pieces...no big deal (for me) and not worth $99 dollars. And when you can buy SD right now for $99 and have all this (just about) and more... AND the upgrade path to SD3...It's not a good deal, unless you ONLY own EZD 1.
While the song designer is a good idea, not a prerequisite...

What I love is that big SEARCH button at the top of the GUI. Behind the scenes I've been advocating a way to search for midi patterns via some form of query and as reported in the SOS article, EZD2 has that. It's cool to be able to tap in a kick beat that matches or compliments my bass pattern and then have a list of midi grooves in my EZD midi libraries that have a kick that matches or are close to a match. It goes a bit further than that but I can't go into features that aren't public knowledge yet.
