clintmartin I've been looking into and watching youtube videos of Superior for a few days trying to decide if I should get it or upgrade to EZ2. I'm still not sure to be honest. I'm going to have to wait until everything is known about EZ2 to decide. I don't feel like I've been missing much as it is.
Wise move. EZD2 is quite superior in a number of ways.

clintmartin http://www.toontrack.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=139777 This makes me feel better about the whole thing. Now I guess I need to decide if I want to do nothing, upgrade to EZ2 or go Superior.
I guess if you like your EZDRummer 1...then forget EZ 2 because they won't co-exist...
It will be assimilated. I'm not missing it (EZD) in the slightest. You can get all your same sounds (from my experience) that you had in EZD and still get some new mixes with FX as well. And as I mentioned before, two new libraries that sound really good.

Is there a DW kit? That's the one that I've been missing. Seems like one of the Metal ezx's had one, but I'm not into Metal so I don't have one. I like the sound of that tap button. Sometimes it takes forever going through midi.

scook They both use Toontrack Solo for standalone play. It is a separate download and install. The zip should be located in the EZD and SD2 download areas. You only need to install one copy it works with both products.
It turns out that I Did have Toontrack Solo installed (icon shows on my desktop), and EZD + Superior are not showing.......not sure why this is? In my earlier 32 bit machine, the install automatically did this.....

That was my first smile of the video...I love vintage drums, but DW is the choice of some of my favorite drummers. It's also a nice touch for the vintage kit to have a Beatle look with a Zeppelin option!

I would guess, if you had a song basically laid out now. You could use the "cut" feature and edit measures later huh? Or if you use a real drummer and want to change his stuff after he leaves? Say add a ride or swap out snares?...It all seems like a guitar players dream to tell you the truth.

Loved the video. It's going to be hard for me to pass on this. I am in total agreement with you Clint, a guitar player and songwriters dream. I hate programming drums as well. I would rather spend my time writing lyrics and finishing songs than fiddling with drums. If this program can get me most of the way there, with good sounding and convincing drum tones, then I will be in.

Nice..but still....Holiday sale...
Nothing I can't do myself...just a facilitator... and still won't stack up soundwise to BFD 3... I'm out till a sale....don't need it....but if the price is right... I might jump on board...around the holidays we shall see..
I'm sure it will come down...and I can't afford to be "jumpy" at the moment...
Let 'em work it out....get a few updates in ...and then have a sale...and I might hop on the train...I've FINALLY learned that it's better to wait... then to "have to be the first on the block to have it"...and throw money that could be used for other things that I REALLY need out the window...

You have basically stated the vision of EZdrummer. No, it's not BFD or Superior. It was never meant to be that. But then, how much quicker can you get to "DONE" on your drum track if you don't have keyboard or drumming skills and an appropriate midi controller. The quicker I get to "DONE" the sooner my Paypal account will increase.

As I occasionally remind folks that, at least for me, I make my living in commercial production...musical and otherwise...so, no, I really can't have too many drums (or anything else for that matter). Plus I tend to use EZD over most all of my other drum packages due to ease of use and pro quality drum samples. The new enhancements will only make it better and easier. It's also tax deductable. In short, a no brainer. YMMV.

My favorite AD drums were the ones that came with it...so I sold my seven adpaks, bought three new ezx's, added some midi from groove monkee (world beats or whatever it's called works perfectly with EZ latin percussion) and still have enough left over for EZ2. All in all it will be a cheap move on my part. I've always been very happy with the core sounds of Toontrack and It was my first and feels comfortable. After watching the video I feel like I can jump right in with a very small learning curve. What can EZ2 not do?

Just watched the video - have to say the new midi composition features look excellent and will probably be enough for me to want this straight away - midi / piano rolls are just so tedious. Also I was just about to buy an actual Electronic Drum kit to help with composition - I think I'll wait and see how this goes first - so spending $99 might save me a few thousand!! Nigel

I've been a long time EZD user, ever since the first month it came out back in 2006. I have a dozen EZX's too. EZD is still one of my most often used virtual instruments and remains one of my favorites. I just saw the most recent video posted and the new midi drum and song creation tools look fantastic and something I would definitely use. I don't think the $99 upgrade is unreasonable being that you also get (2) new drum libraries (like getting 2 new EZX's) and all of my existing EZX's will get updated as well. Plus is seems the $99 upgrade fee is the retail price, TT said the street price would be more like $89. Places like Florida Music will probably sell it for even less than that with no sales tax and free shipping. Cheers, Billy Buck

TT never undercuts it's distributors so I bet that after the initial surge, market forces will be in play. Sound is sound so the appeal to me is the tools that I need to get my midi performance finished. How many times have I had a specific beat in my head, gone off on a quest to find a beat to match and after a half dozen libraries give up and change my vision to match whatever beat I could find. You'll quickly learn with the search function that the less you put into the Tap window the greater number of suggestions you get. If you get too specific you might lose a very good beat because the high hat part is using one of the many articulations that are available in EZD2 libraries and your high hat in the Tap window is using F#1.

This is me, EXACTLY. I have more trouble finding the beat that matches the song I have written than chosing which kit to use. I generally, already have most of the song written, before I ever hit record. I know what rhythm on the guitar that I want to play. Finding a beat that fits what I want to do is the hardest part. Like Clint, I liked the main AD program best. I bought Indie and the Blues add packs and honestly, as it turns out, I probably only really needed the midi grooves for these packs, the Kits were not that much different, or better than the original.

I will honestly say that I have no factual knowledge of this matter and if I did, I would say nothing instead of making a wild guess which is what I'll do. I don't see the Superior line going away. I would expect something along the progression of SD1 to SD2. SD1 was the most enigmatic program I ever saw. Back when I was a scum-sucking software pirate, I looked at it for a very short time before I blasted it off of my computer - hated it. I was using the old DR 008 drum program from FXpansion. That was my program and I knew how to tweak it well. I used that with the Drumkit from Hell samples. I sent emails begging for them to come up with something more user friendly. There was a program that Frank Basille developed called Drag 'n' Drop drummer. I was looking for a blend of that with the Dr008 drum sampler. FXpansion was full bore developing BFD but that was too complex for me. I didn't want to tweak it to get a sound. I wanted just to run and gun. The EZdrummer showed up and to get of the bunny trail I just ran down, EZdrummer's success, influenced Superior Drummer 2 and we got a very powerful sampler with user friendly midi and audio mixer presets. I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't happen again. But expect a new Superior product to push the envelope a little farther.
