Dear Devs, fixing the various " Take lines erratic behaviours bugs "

- Applying crossfades manualy on clips is quite painful because of the various erratic positionning bugs.
You have to retry X times, zoom excessively and move things again numerous times to have your crossfades start and end exactly where you want...
(Because of that, editing clips enveloppes manualy is sometimes almost faster than using crossfades and way more reliable. (Although there are nodes editing bugs from time to time but well...))

- There are various copy / paste bugs that occur on the take lines. Those have been reported numerous time... From things getting pasted where you don't want to, comping mode randomly not working as expected, sound on sound mode neither...

Base 57
1. Negative measures ( Even better would be the ability to put more than one song into a single project; each with its own downbeat).
2. Staff view improvements

Quoting to emphasize these. Either negative pre-measures or assignable starting point would be hugely helpful. I work a lot from charts, and it would be helpful to be able to find "Measure 72" actually labeled "72." Making this assignable might be preferable to those whose workflow is fine the way it is.

Regarding the second, most of my charts are number charts; it would be hugely helpful to be able to generate (simple) number charts and overlay number charts into MIDI tracks for basic chord changes.

Thanks,
T.

Anybody else still experiencing this pain?

There is (roughly) a 3db difference between frozen/unfrozen tracks.... this has been around for quite some time.

I work on a midi track and set volumes, then when I freeze it, the gain is suddenly 3db louder....

Not a deal breaker but it really gets old having to reset balances after each freeze...

Not sure what happened to my earlier post, so I guess I'll repost.

First, quoting Base 57 (for emphasis):
1. Negative measures ( Even better would be the ability to put more than one song into a single project; each with its own downbeat).
2. Staff view improvements

My list:
1. Regarding the negative measures, I believe having assignable numbers on the timeline would allow choosing a starting point while accommodating those who prefer things just the way they are.

I work a lot from charts, mostly number charts, but sometimes transcriptions for things like horn arrangements. Few songs actually start on "Measure 1," and even if they do, I can't start recording from Measure 1 because there might be a "pushed" beat on beat one. There are usually pickup notes or maybe several bars of introduction prior to the first measure of the actual song.

For years, I've struggled with finding things like "Measure 72" when it might be labeled "83" in my timeline. There are workarounds, each with its own flavor of awkwardness, and being able to set Measure 1 in the timeline would make my work much easier.

I had also commented on generating number charts in staff view, along with a MIDI overlay for PRV using number charts to cue chord changes.
Thanks,
T.

Interesting thought... but the kick/sare are each mono tracks panned center?

I know i've chatted with bitman about this in the past as he told me he now automatically re-adjusts without thinking about it.

I'm finding it a growing nuisance as freezing/un smetimes happens often and i forget where i am...

Re: Feature Requests + Improvements [New 29/3/2018] 2018/05/10 19:23:27 (permalink)
Hi Bandlab/Sonar Team,

* Quadcurve detachable; so that i can pull up on separate monitorscreen AND allow multiple instances to be open for separate tracks wirhout them closing when i select other channels.

* Batch export of multiple secrions of recorded (multi-tracks) e.g. between designated markers.
This is nice for recorded live sessions for quick and dirty export of multiple songs recorded in one long (multi)track.
I think many non professionals would love this feature (Bands/Jamsessions etc.)

* Folders in Console-view &

* "auto-follow/display" tracks belonging to selected bus/patchpoint

* Quadcurve and Adaptive Limiter as VST to use in other DAW

* I use one Soundcard for (live) recording (tc-connect) and another for mixing (vs700r).
Sometimes when i boot up and start Sonar I will have either one switched on and open a session which was previously saved with the other and vicaversa.
Switching back and forth (also after saving) is troublesome having to deselect ALL channels and reselect ALL channels....
Maybe this can be simplified somehow.

I am looking forward to what's coming up!

The staff view can use a lot of updating:

1.  The ability to correctly display dotted and tied triplets, and the ability to display triplets down to the 32nd note.
2.  Fixing the clunky "mouse insertion" method of inputting notes on to the staff so that notes get put exactly where the composer intends them to be (relative to the beat).
3.  Improving search functions, i.e., finding all the controller 7s in a given track quickly.

Given that these issued were not repaired for decades when Sonar cost hundreds of dollars to buy, I have no reason to believe that these issues will get repaired given that Bandlab is giving the program away for free, but I am completely open and ready to be surprised.  I've moved on to Digital Performer and up to speed with it now.   But if Bandlab does get serious about the notation editor, I am ready to consider using Sonar again, which I did use for 25 years.

Thank you,
Jerry

Would you mind increasing the character limit for VSTPlugins folder by 10 Or more characters please. I have tested this with others daws and this is not a windows restriction.

Iam sorting all my plugins out and Platinum wont scan vst folders if the characters are over a certain amount.

Example : Effectz folder > Compressor folder > Type of compressor folder > Compressor maker folder > Compressor.dll

Hello, I just did a fresh build, fresh Win10 install, fresh Splat/CbB install.  Couldn't have gone smoother, actually.

After all was said and done, going to run CbB and setting up all the preferences, I realize how great it would be if the preferences, layouts, screensets, etc were stored in my Bandlab or Cakewalk profile.  Then after a fresh build, or reinstall/repair, those settings can be imported easily.

Another option would be Cakewalk having an 'export settings' function where everything you just mentioned is saved as a single file which Cakewalk can load, but that wouldn't be as convenient as it being on the cloud.

Not sure what your seeing here. I use a Surface Pro and by far CW has the best Windows experience of the three DAWs tried. SO3, Reaper, CW.

The windows 10 scale options doesn't seem to make any difference to the size of the gui. I want to scale it down as everything is too big. Something similar the the way Bitwig works

As I work a lot with MIDI in the full Piano Roll View, I often find myself staring at an empty grid with no MIDI notes to be seen. And all those times I have to zoom out and scroll around in order to find those MIDI notes.

When in Track view, shortcut key F currently resize vertically so that all tracks are visible. Shortcut key Shift+F resize horizontally so that the full width of the project is visible. Perfect.

In the full PRV I would expect similar ways to fit content. However, it doesn’t work like that. Sure, in the PRV’s View menu there is an item called Fit MIDI Content so it is indeed possible for a user to manually assign e.g. the shortcut key F to that command in the PRV. But there is no way to do that horizontally using any menu or keyboard command.

So in short, I‘d love to see the shortcut keys F and Shift+F having similar behaviour in the full PRV as in the Track view: fit content vertically and horizontally respectively. That would be a great starting point for further zooming in and editing.

Consistency is king.

I have just three right now....

1. One Negative Measure on the timeline.
2. An option to lock any fader so it can't be moved accidentally.
3. At least one extra undo/revert option for fader changes.

Cheers!

Also please make the possibility to add more bands and make the GUI detachable and keep open more instances like a normal plugin.

And if you'd release it as a VST plugin, I would gladly use it in all the other DAWs (if any).

they're not going to add more bands cos that's the way gui is set up-- like sonnox or dp masterworks. Think!

This never worked with Gibson, Roland or original owners,but....
Cakewalk needs an integrated sampler to compete. Not having one is basically ignoring huge chunk of Hip-Hop, Pop, EDM and even some modern rock acts. To be perfectly clear, one can create any genre in any DAW. Whether that creation is practical and intuitive is another thing altogether. Even with Cakewalk being free, it is a hard sell to youth because the hoops I have to jump through to demo modern pop and Hip-Hop are too much.

The people of this forum represent Cakewalks faithful, traditional user base which was not enough to keep cakewalk competitive. Repeating mistakes of past will likely see similar results. The foundation of cakewalk is solid, but needs a major overhaul when it comes to modern music production. Someone like Anderton can come up with clever solutions, but most DAWs have these things implemented out of the box. I can recreate over half of current top 40 songs using FL Studio, Logic, Ableton, Reason, Bitwig and Studio One out the box with no major workarounds. I can’t do that with Cakewalk or even SPLAT. The process requires major third party assistance. I have used Geist paired with Sonar but even that has limitations and again, requires additional purchase without being truly integrated. I have little experience with Ableton and over 20 years with Cakewalk and it was easier for me to show a kid what he wanted to do with the former.

I’m not talking full Kontakt or other advanced product. FL Studio has the simplest integrated sampler with little deep editing ability beyond pitch and envelope but it is effective and super quick. Sample One and Simpler are nowhere near the level of EXS24 but just work. The fact that Sonar has a step Sequencer gives it a foot in the door but falls far short without useful sampler. For now I literally cannot give product away.

I guess a good step forward would be making Dropzone 64 bit.
