Jose7822 xpenno Oh yes, one question if I may? I loaded the template into Sonar 8 and read the release notes which mentioned that the Master Out was set to RMS and as such the mix should be around the -20 mark. I noticed that the demo song provided was peaking at just under 0db on the meters and wondered if this could have been reset by me using a new version of Sonar? Is there an easy way to set this back? Cheers Spence Hey there! I'm not Jonas, but I can help you with your question. The reason for the disparity is because you're reading the PEAK levels instead of the RMS (Root Median Square) levels as suggested. To change this, click on the drop-down arrow found next to the Show/Hide All Meters button (It's to the right of the Snap to Grid button in the Tool Bar). Go down to the end where it says "Bus Meter Options" and select "RMS". That'll show you the average levels of the song, which is what Jonas was refering to. HTH Yes it does, that's great thanks!

Hey Jonas Thanks very much for sharing your knowledge - invaluable to relative newbies like myself ! It's a bit of a CPU muncher on my poor old system, but I'm learning loads from just pulling apart what you've set up. Top man, thank you !

I created that Ozone preset long ago. It was probably Ozone 1 or 2. I don't have the new version, nor do I use it. As I recall, the preset used very minimal processing, i.e. one or two bands of compression, EQ and single-band limiting. I also turned off the exciters and wideners.

Just to be clear, I've never used Ozone in my work, although I certainly could use the linear phase EQ for mastering without hesitation. It can be a very effective tool for home-brew mastering, as long as it's not abused. These days, my mastering revolves around an Alan Smart C1 and a Manley Massive Passive. Occasionally I'll get a project with the budget to rent a 2-inch tape machine, which is my favorite 'compressor'. I also use the Algorythmix EQs when I need to do precise surgery. On very rare occasions, I'll use a maul-da-band compressor, but only in desparation! For mixing, I use UAD plugins extensively. The large variety of colors for compression and EQ have made mixing in the box a pleasure. If UAD ever releases virtual versions of the Manley Vari-Mu and the Massive Passive, I will probably dispense of the mastering hardware.

First. Thank you Jonas! A stunning eye opener for a total newbie... It seems a rite of passage to find and download the template You've finally joined the forum once you do and go "huh?" I did the little drawing of the busses above to help myself start to sort it out. Still working on the signal portion. Hope it's accurate, and someone finds it useful!

For all my projects I have two tracks that are labeled as MIX 1 and MIX 2. These route to the MAIN OUT bus, a bus with only a voxengo span and a vintage meter in the effects bin The MASTER MIX bus is routed to the MAIN OUT bus. This way, after bouncing to tracks for a mix, I can listen to the bounced track without having to change any outputs, or bypass any effects on the MASTER bus,... J

There's definitely some fun things within it. Some of the routing may be over the top for simpler productions. Even if you pick up just one or two new things you didn't know about before, it's worth the download. J
