In what way? I can't say I agree or disagree. It would depend on just what you mean.

Forums are like that. Can't do much about it as a user but except it and take a break when you need to. Or if you feel better leaving it behind that's ok too. I don't know you well, but do what you feel is best for you.

Huh?

Except for violating the TOS, how can someone "abuse" a forum?

Not sure about Papa 2004 as I don't post that often to know people, but..... that's why we have an "ignore user" button. Sure, some people say, I don't want to use it.... or It shouldn't be necessary....... but it is a great addition. I have 3 on my list here and on boards that get really bloody (can you say football anyone?!?!) I have 75 or so.... makes going to the board(s) a lot easier. Sooooo, rather than not get info in a place that you like (or used to like) to hang out.... use the "IGNORE USER" list!!!

That's right, and also, you have to learn to "speed read" this forum for useful information.

I think I know why he left. Down the page, there's a thread in which Papa was participating, which was interrupted by a user who demonstrated his lack of regard for fellow posters through the use of pornographic language, which was echoed with inane tittering from the little boys in the peanut gallery who are attracted by potty talk such as this.

Unfortunately, the practice of washing the mouths with soap of foul mouthed little boys has fallen out of favor in the past 30 years or so, and we have many an "adult" moron in our society now who enjoy exercising their right to publicly expose filth.

Not saying (although my choice is clear--IGNORE USER) how people should chose to interact, but the INTERNET and forums have changed people and not necessarily for the better. Lots of people say things they would never be able to say in person because: 1) they would be at risk of serious bodily harm 2) they would be ostracized by a significant group of people 3) in person, there would be active retorts and questioning of their behavior. On the INTERNET, they are anonymous..... I could be a 7 year old girl from Finland, an 87 year old Moroccan farmer or a multi-billionaire from Silicon Valley (alas, I am just a poor Eagles fan waiting for good news from the draft!!) No one will know me and I am not accountable for my behavior on the net. I think I am pretty good at ignoring people, but I do like the old "ignore user" option and it cuts the $&^# with no strain. On occasion, on the football boards, I read a blocked post....only to remember why I blocked them in the first place! Sorry someone fell victim to anonymity.

If you are referring to me, please don't group me into such a puerile class. If not, great. Either way, if I contributed to papa2004 leaving, I feel bad enough without being called a little boy or an adult moron. I go overboard sometimes, but I also contribute a lot, especially to newbies. I'm not perfect, but I'm not a total jerk either.

If that is the thread that is causing this I am really angry. It is pure nuts for Papa to feel he should leave because of that really vile thread. Papa has nothing to be ashamed of regarding that thread. If anything he should be proud that unlike me he didn't get involved to any great degree. Nor should such a thread have any impact on him at all.

If this is the reason I am really upset.

Hey Jinga, (visiting these boards a lot right now because I am waiting for my computer to do tasks).... you aren't blocked on my lists..... I enjoyed fighting about the Pats with you!! Also, people react however they will..... if someone gets off on being a dork, and the other party gets angry and leaves, the dork is usually pretty happy.... me, I ignore them (one way or the other! )

(Although I personally thought you were a little overboard about the Pats )

I still don't get it. There is no good reason for Papa to want to leave that I can see. He has from all I have seen deported himself with impeccable taste. If it is true that his comment on that thread led him to not want to participate any more on this forum I have to wonder if there is more to it than that. Surly one bad thread from an idiot can't have that kind of effect. If that were the case I would have left years ago.

We get numskulls from time to time. It is to be expected on any forum. We are lucky that we have so few. It should not have any effect on the solid members here.

It just seems a bit out of the blue to me.

I am still angry.

and since we are all happily wasting our time with this (a little bit) pathetic thread could anyone tell my what papa2004 was called by the batman guy in order to get so frustrated??? i was just wondering how offensive this must have been, because there is a certain tendency in the forum to defend very moralistic (in a negative way) views....like grown up people who almost faint because of a bad word...
i dont wanna defend rude talking but this isnt a forum of a fundamentalistic church...its musicians here....its rocknroll...its sweating in a studio or on a stage :-) so just keep cool - if somone is silly - why get so upset??? just ignore....

cheers

First thing is to report the abuse of TOS. That's what I do, I've done this many times.

I do value your contributions on these forums no matter if we agreed or disagreed I still respect your opinions.

Have a break away from these forums it's the best thing to do, the best advise I can give to you. Go and spend good valuable time with family :)

Take care! Hope to see you later :)

-------------------------------------------------------

Post in general regarding ALL sites (forums) online:

The old saying. . . . in war there are no winners!

. . . the same can be said to war of words on forums.

Any disagreement over opinions has the potential to go on and on, and at times it can turn nasty!! It can become very disruptive on forums, especially considering the nature of this site being a support forum some people can be frustrated and/or unhappy about something, or just having a lousy rotten day.

No matter where online (forums) there will always be the clash of the titans, the clash of egos, but it takes two sides to start a war and often others will jump in on the bandwagon for cheap entertainment, to either take one sided view or try to reason with both sides.

Having the block (ignore) feature on this forum isn't such a bad idea, most administrators suggest members 'ignore' and report (it works, it does end further conflicts). When I block someone at times I'm bluffing, other times I see it as a permanent solution as a way to end future disputes NOW!. If someone crossed my path to abuse then I have the right to block (ignore) them but if that person persist then that is regarded as a criminal offense, and in regards to online forums anyone can be removed from a site by court order, and yes! It does work because I have dealt with incidents elsewhere, far worse than this forum.

All too often I have seen the 'Cyber Coward', TROLL, who sits behind the comfort and safety of his/her computers acting all big 'n' tough, strring up the pot whilst being entertained by it all!! Little do they realize they are not only in violation of the TOS they are possibly in violation of the law.

Occasionally I see the human SpellChecker or the Nit-Picker, or someone who wants to be so darn serious about everything and not take a joke or a metaphor of words/sentences in posts, or some people who must analyze every single word right down to the most basic meaning and sometimes quote a small part of it out of context. Often this can cause dispruptions on forums and turn nasty.

There are people here from all over the world and their English may not be that great. There are also people who aren't that good with communication skills and there are different types of English speaking countries including tha' lingo. There are also many different cultures to consider and through unfortunate or for whatever circumstances such as.. Example-01: some people may come across aggressive when in fact they didn't intend to (wrong choice of words can often cause issues when communicating on forums). Example-02: Some have I wittle truble undarstooding English. Example-03: someone is having a bad day, their pc crashed again and their cute little puppy dog just did a weeeeeeeeee in their boot.

This forum is a peer to peer voluntary support site for CW users and potential customers who may be interested in purchasing CW products. There are thousands of visitors viewing these forums everyday! And WOW!! It sure does get very busy on these forums. A lot of CW users here are sincere and loyal, they want this site to be really cool and not go down the drain.

I want this site to be great!! So come on ya all let's support this by reporting troublemakers, trolls. The more reports sent by us the better chance of having troublemakers banned! It's about time we cleaned out the trash LOL!!

Anyway! I can easily and very quickly log-out and spend valuable time with family or do some more recording. Ah yes! There is life beyond these forums.

Disclaimer:
My communications skills aren't the best right now! I've been too busy celebrating my Birthday today

Happy Birthday to me, happy Birthday to me

I'm outta here LOL!!

It would be best for you to read it for yourself. I don't think that anything was directed toward Papa. I do think that much of what was said by Batman was aimed at people of faith. It should not matter what faith either.

If you think it was simply a fellow using a few regrettable words then I feel sorry for you.

This is the Easter season. For many it is the holiest time of all.

It doesn't matter at all what a person is or what they may believe. It is only good manners to respect the other guys faith. If a person is unable to do that then they have no business being in the company of others.

John, guys - please forgive me - I think I pointed you to the wrong thread the other poster was refering to - please disregard this in your future posts.

Papa refers to 'Too Many' people so I guess it's not just this Batman guy anyway - mind you, some of his choice of phrase was uncalled for.

I suspect it's more a lot of individual remarks that have upset him.

Again, I apologise for incorrectly polarizing the discussion on one thread.

Steve

john there is no need to feel sorry for me because i was just asking what caused all this mischief...and i suggested that MAYBE he could have overreacted...(but - my fault - i do not know how he was insulted)
and anyway i still think that people should not be so sensitive anyway..
have you ever wondered why the "faith - issue" almosrt always results in quarrels? its obvious because believing into something implies that you do not believe something else believed by anothere one - and there you go with the problems....i am not saying that its nice to insult religuis feelings but since there are thousands of creeds....whatever...i am not in the mood for deep discussions - just let me tell you that i grew up in a monastery and for that reason i am sceptical about a few things.....because if the creed still is pure the believers often are not....but dont feel offended by that because thats not my intention... in the end i just wanted to know concretely why papa was frustrated....cheers

I agree.

I do think this. If one is happy in ones faith there can be no real insult to it.

I am no one to judge anyone as to the rightness or wrongness of their faith.

I try to be respectful to all faiths. I don't care what a person believes, really.
I have my own set of notions that I like. Thats as far as I will go on this.

As to Papa I don't know whats going on there.

Anonymity is one of THE worst contributors to forum abuse. Zero accountability brings out the WORST in human nature.
If every member were required to register and post using their REAL NAME the garbage behavior would drop RADICALLY. (Jaron Lanier wrote a great article about this and other bad behavior on the internet. It was published in Discover Magazine last year.)

Maybe a new forum with this as a requirement would gain in popularity.
I would want to join it anyway. Right now.

I can't agree with the idea that we should have our identity known. It is way too dangerous as it is now I would not like to think what it would become.

My name is John.

Also the Steinberg forum has the registration requirement. You have to put your dongle info in to post. I did this a few times but if you don't post for a while it asks for it again. I simply stopped going there. It is really a dead place compared to here.

Jinga,

I mentioned no names and pointed no fingers. You'll have to reach your own conclusion on whether or not you were among those to whom I referred. I took no names, but I do recall that particular fools chorus had more than one member.

Remember, this is my opinion, and I don't mind sharing my thought process:

Consider that our Papa is in real life, someone's father or grandfather. If so, it seems likely to me that he may not want the sort of trash expressed in the thread in question on the same computer with which he explores the wonders of the electronic world with his beloved offspring.

I too am a grandfather in real life, and I may be projecting. I don't know Papa, and don't know why he left the site. It may have had nothing at all to do with you, and please be clear that I have not made that assumption.
