Just logged on to the Bandlab site-- It's everything I would hate about a "music" site. Defiantly not aimed at us old farts.  Oh well. as long as they keep our server running that's all that really matters.

I see a new community there already . . . "Grumpy Old Sonar Users"

Hello Meng and thanks also for your post. The timing for me is weird, because I was logging in today to get some answers on which DAW to finally move to, as I have new projects and clients starting next week, and I wanted to move forward.

I'm so glad I can put that to one side again. I wish you and your team all the very best, and Noel, so happy for you! You certainly deserve it.

cheers / Dave.

I don't think there is. The Bandcamp wiki calls it an American company. BandLab is Singaporean.

Meng,
You could not have introduced yourself better; the current status of Band Lab/SONAR, the commitment to get things right before release, even if it takes a bit more time, and that classy way of explaining BandLab would ather risk under promising, and actually over delivering. Sounds awesome. You sounded like one of the OG forum members. That was cool!

Imagine if the cloud and desktop were seamless. You have an idea while you're walking, tap out the basic harmony on the cloud, go home and fire up Sonar and work on it on your desktop, your laptop is synced when you work on it at the park, etc. You can share and collaborate with other people. That would be pretty awesome.

I worked on projects "remotely" at least 5 years ago, uploading a bundle to say Google Drive and then opened it with the desktop when working in the studio, then saving that file after edits back to the same location.

Cloud integration isn't a game changer and with a little know how you basically already have it.

I could see some people wanting to do a similar integration like what Davinci Resolve can do, but for audio recording and workflow, I'd imagine more people would just get frustrated with someone else making edits at the same time and I don't think that is a particularly good idea.

The internet has inherent limitations for any kind of live collaboration as it would relate to actually multi-track recording live some someone else.  I work in an industry that specializes in global network optimization and cloud services, and with current technology somethings just are not possible.

Hi Meng
Pleased to say I was one of the many who kept the faith and stuck with Sonar instead of trying
to learn a new DAW.
Your introductory piece bodes well for your future and ours and I look forward to whatever you have in store
for us.
Thank you for saving Cakewalk.

Regarding BandLab you have to understand what its designed for and the target audience. Its a mobile platform intended to be easy to use and collaborative. Its actually way more evolved than Momentum and has the right balance of editing, capture, social and collaboration tools. For many that's all they need and a DAW would be overwhelming.  I personally find web/mobile applications that try to do too much counter productive since advanced editing is not what most people use such devices for.

That is exactly what worries me! I realize that a lot of us including me do not fit into their target group. We are not a part of this playful young facebook-iphone-generation that always wants more whenever it is new! I think for plenty of us this is the reason why we have chosen Sonar and not one of those contemporary toy DAWs!

Well deep inside I knew this was going to happen.
Sonar is the best DAW out there and there were really no chance of it to just slowly die away from us.
That would have been the most stupid thing since ....
Long live Sonar!
Thanks for beeing the one that did the only right thing to do.
And congratulations to beeing the happy owner of the best DAW.

Just logged on to the Bandlab site-- It's everything I would hate about a "music" site. Defiantly not aimed at us old farts.  Oh well. as long as they keep our server running that's all that really matters.

I see a new community there already . . . "Grumpy Old Sonar Users"

Ha Ha, well I'm just being honest about my reaction to their web site. And not really grumpy about it because as I said, at this point as long as the version of Sonar I have continues to work for as long as possible I don't really care what this company does to it.  From the web site my hopes that the "New DAW" would be to my liking were dashed. I only see a DAW with yet more features aimed at "none Musicians" to create "music??".

And I totally realize that people like me who started with tape based recording and have used midi since it first showed as a little serial adapter are not a growth market for DAW's. In another 15 years we will mostly be out of the picture.  Real musicians and engineers are a dying breed. Today's music creators use loops and want everything spoon fed to them. The company that figures all this out will make money and have a nice little App you purchase for $14 in the Apple store or Google Play.

A lot of us have stayed loyal to Sonar because they seemed to have stayed loyal to us. Sonar has been the perfect blend of a multi track Tape recorder and midi sequencing for me. Rack loads of effects and more ( usable)  included instruments than any other DAW.  As many of us have said. At this point if they could only make it just a little more stable it would be the worlds most perfect DAW ever. Whether they could make a profit off of that product no one would really know until they tried it.

Here hoping they do the "right" thing and just touch up Sonar a little bit and carry on. I think there's a lot of loyalty to Sonar as it is and it certainly would make most of us super happy to just carry on.

All I really care about is being able to continue using Sonar ON MY DESKTOP...and the rest whatever is OK! Better would be great of course.
I just don't feel so comfortable about that prospect anymore.
