I like X1
I like SONAR X1. List updated Aug 16, 2011 after X1c released. I like Smart Tool. Sometimes it could be smarter but but accessing automation envelopes is now easier to me. I like ProChannel - it should be VST, too, but I still like it because it sounds good enough for daily use. I like the feature 'Copy track names to clips'. Such a small feature but useful in many situations. I like the new 'Append project' feature (drag CWP file to open project). I like the new Browser. I like screensets. Not using them too much yet but I understand the potential. I love the new look of X1 (after mods). I don't like (updated after X1c released): Are crossfades on or off? You don't know before trying. Scissors don't work if you're in [Clip] Envelope mode. Additional mouse clicking needed. (If they do, tell me how!) Tracks in folder are no more intended and the dotted line is much harder to see than indent in 8.5. In laptop ProChannel uses too much screen estate. You need 900 pixels to see the whole thing. Compact mode is hidden in a difficult place and you lose important EQ controls when using it.

great post. but i don't agree with all the methods you've used in order to transform your sonar into what you like. Resource hacking could lead to many problems if you haven't done it before, and i'm pretty sure that most of the users here haven't got any clue of how to do that.
sincerely, Ioannis Windows - some Dual Core CPU - a little bit of RAM - not so bad soundcard - i think it's called Sonar - a silver mixer with colorful knobs - black speaker monitors - my ears some work

So just learn to hack the program and it will work right. Got it.

I like the new 'Append project' feature. Cool The manual doesn't show up anything when searching for "append project" ...care to elaborate? Thanks, Randy

Yes, it's easy to mess the DLL and make Sonar unusable. I don't recommend hacking for novices and I should have mentioned that 'easy' means it's easy for people who are familiar with windows programming. -Panu

There are many legacy entries in the DLL, not used anymore. If you're looking for a specific menu, dialog or string, use the Find Text... and go thru all matches. Usually the last match is the relevant one.

panup Notice that you can tweak menu hotkeys by changing the place of the & character. CONTROL "E&xport...", 2108, BUTTON, BS_PUSHBUTTON | WS_CHILD | WS_VISIBLE | WS_TABSTOP, 282, 439, 48, 14 Export hotkey is x. If you want to use E as hotkey, change it to "&Export...". 282, 439, 48, 14: these are window coordinates. X, Y, width, height. In Resource Hacker these can be changed using GUI, too. No programming skills are needed - but you need to be careful! Thanks for the link and the info. That was the version of software I found when I did a google search. However the most recent upgrade to it was in 2002 so was hesitant to use it.

If you found a way to make something work better then great job to you, but, something doesn't seem right about going in and editing a program's .dll's. Doh! :) Sort of where I'm sitting with this - but it's an interesting read. Panup: I'm sure you are very aware of this, but maybe this warning should go out there for others. If you make any custom changes like this, keep notes of them. When X1b is installed, your DLL will likely get reverted back to it's original state. You'll need to rebuild from scratch. They may also make changes to this file, so simply having a copy of your own likely won't help.

codamedia ...When X1b is installed, your DLL will likely get reverted back to it's original state. My experience is that the resource dll always changes with each release. So you will lose your changes. I've done some of the resource hacking too, but when I kept having to reapply them with each release...it soon became a "funny once" proposition, and quickly slid into "not worth the effort".
