Happy to support the change. Will you keep the current way the forums are moderated by Forum Hosts? How about the current divisions of subjects, in various sub forums. Will you keep that or will you be asking for more input from the forum. (You mentioned that the Cakewalk website wouldn’t continue. What is happening regarding those current softwares that need be on line authorisation/registration at installation time.) Edited to exclude the last paragraph as I found the correct information in other threads. By bad.

Things change. I'm sure you'll try to do it in a way that doesn't disrupt the community too much. We'll adapt.

Good idea, one other thing would be a modified TOS close to the original in tone(which I believe you have thought of) and some new moderation staff not tied to the legacy program would help some.
I believe the direction your taking so far is exemplary.

Then let me be the one with a different opinion. I for one have never seen a better looking and more easily navigated forum than APG vNext as implemented here at Cakewalk Forum. And that's regardless device. It may sound stupid, but I think at least some of the success of this community may be due to those factors. Additionally, I think that when you do change things, you shouldn’t change everything at once. Recognition and familiarity is important. Of course, this is not a big deal in a broader perspective. And let me also line up in the queue to thank you for taking over the IP related to SONAR. But I for one would surely miss the look and feel of the current forum. And regarding your avatar – it’s actually possible to have two: one being displayed when you’re online and one when you’re away. Brilliant! I have never seen that feature in any other forum software. And as for me, I have a picture of me sitting at the piano at a very young age when I’m online, and the very same picture without me present when I’m offline. That's instant feedback. A thank you hence goes to Photoshop as well.

meng Hi guys, It's been a whirlwind 48 hours for us and engaging with you guys here has just validated how incredible this community is. "Thank you" could not be said enough. <snipping for space> Would anyone mind if we moved from APG to an alternative forum framework provider? <snip> p.s Sorry if you were hoping for something more serious, that will come soon :-)
Hi meng! I know a lot of folks have been asking for new forum software for a while. If we have access to these current forums, even locked down for no new posts, I think we'll be good with it. There is an amazing amount of good information here, for those that can find it, and would be sad to lose it. I don't know which forum software would be better. I haven't actually found anything that wasn't difficult or flawed in some ways that would still allow the significant conversations we can have here. Meanwhile on a desktop computer or laptop: User Control Panel (Top Right of forum pages) | Edit Profile | Avatar / Profile Photo. I'm not sure if a mobile device sees the same options or layout.

Meng:
I think it will be fine to do the migration you've described, with obvious criteria such as account maintenance, searchable history, etc. I suspect the permanent links would translate relatively in the new environment but break from an external version of the old link? Just wondering. Enhancing portability across browsers and mobile support are equally key benefits in advancing the platform.
Thank you for considering our input.

I think this forum has a certain look and feeling about it. A good look and feeling. With that said, it could use an update and some work done to the search engine. If you were to change anything would it be possible to keep the same look and style of pages, exc ? And just change the engine which it uses in the background ?

seriousfun I'd love a forum that is not part of a larger community.
Also, if you freeze and archive this, please spend an afternoon working on a better search function. This forum's search never has worked properly.

I love the way the forum looks and feels in its current form, and it is way more user friendly and INVITING looking than most other forums I know of. On an iPad it is crystal clear.
If you take the Presonus forum by comparison, the "look" is, imho, rather austere and utilitarian by comparison.

I don't know anything about other forum software options to be able to say which, if any, is better. From the perspective of a user of this forum it has become increasingly flaky to use, certain functions no longer work, editing a post often makes it disappear altogether, sometimes a post is accepted and then instantly deleted for no apparent reason and once that happens it seems to happen every time until you log out/in again, but all that said it used to be just fine, so it's as if someone fiddled with whatever settings at some point and messed it up. One thing for sure is that the recently attempted reformat known as "The Bakery" was not well received in these parts and rightly so IMO. Aesthetics aside, the structure, with posts moving up or down the thread depending on reasons I never quite find out made it mostly incoherent. I think you would have a mass desertion on your hands if something like that were implemented. I guess that the idea was that the most pertinent posts stayed near the top of the thread and the not so pertinent ones ( I can be polite when the mood takes me) sink to the murky depths, but it just made the whole thing unreadable to me and many others seemed to concur. I get that with the current linear set-up it can sometimes be necessary to wade through pages of nonsense and egos before getting to anything that actually resembles a valid point, but that said, it doesn't really take many forum visits to become easily able to filter out what doesn't need reading (that's what avatars are for, right? ;)) I also agree with the suggestion that if there is to be moderation on your new forum, it would be a good time to change the moderators.

noynekker A forum format change is welcome, as long as we keep the open exchange of ideas, and spontaneous nature that has always been the Cakewalk forum tradition here. Meng, I'm sure you realize there is no other forum like this in the DAW / Audio world . . . lets strive to keep it that way.

VBulletin is a great forum system. I have worked with it before. It can be customised and integrated quite easily and there is a migration system available for migrating from other popular forum software.
Splat, Win 10 64bit and all sorts of musical odds and sods collected over the years, but still missing a lot of my old analogue stuff I sold off years ago.

Since for me, this forum is a wealth of knowledge, not only about Sonar, but music recording in general. The main improvement I would like to see is a way of adding photos without having to go through a 3rd party app.

As 2 people who probably post on here a lot and are part of the core of daily "helpers" I agree with Chuck. Do what you want but please don't change the look and feel of this forum. The bakery was a classic case of " we don't like this so we will not participate".
