I don't know if it will be possible to move everyone's post count though - maybe it can be manually done if everyone keeps to the same username or if we can implement single sign on <- this is something we're already looking at.

I don't care about my post count this is my second and my first had more I think.

I think it's better to keep the user names though, so people are familiar with everyone after the change, maybe with the option to change. One concern with everyone having to create new names, is some past users or trolls jumping in and taking a known name to masquerade as them

I feel that a new forum would be an extremely welcome  thing.  This forum has been nice, but it's not without it's issues. (doubleposting, the little "To the top arrow" doesn't work, once in a while, certain threads just...break for some users while still working for others, etc).

I think this forum has a certain look and feeling about it. A good look and feeling.
With that said, it could use an update and some work done to the search engine.

If you were to change anything would it be possible to keep the same look and style of pages, exc ?
And just change the engine which it uses in the background ?

I agree.

There's something about the look and feel of this place that makes you feel at home (at least to me) and I look forward to visiting here on a daily basis. Certainly, we would adapt to a new forum, but it wouldn't be the same as these familiar grounds.

Would love to see the "internal engine" getting a makeover while the outer cosmetic stuff stays the same.

Wally. I think the reason you cannot add pictures directly is for a good reason. Adding a picture directly from your computer to a web page requires the servers to store that image. This forum would require much larger server storage to hold the images and whatnot so this is more costly for the forum provider....

I'm not sure what the cost is but, A. I visit forums that don't charge to participate, but allow you to attach photos without using a 3rd party, B. Dropbox and IMGUR don't charge for their site, but you can upload many pictures.
We both agree though that pictures would be very helpful..
Cactus Music
If you need to edit a picture you can "open" the screenshot in Paint and add little arrows and stuff....

I don't use "Paint" but I'm pretty proficient with Photoshop and all the other Adobe tools as I developed WEB sites for my wife's and my businesses.

Twin Stack Exhausts, eh? Is that Cirrus a Turbo Diesel?

Of course one reason Forums like this like to use web served images rather than allow direct uploads is to save on storage space. That image is about 60 KB, the rest of the text in the message, including your signature, are less than 2K. A picture can be important to sharing and describing problems and solutions, hosting them somewhere else that is dedicated to hosting images keeps the storage of forum content manageable.

If we paid to use the forum I'd expect to be able to share relevant images directly to the servers, but we don't pay for this - at least not directly. It's a cost of doing business, which the business will want to keep minimized - and servers and storage, even as cheap as technology has gotten, still aren't free.

Hello.
If I may point out...
Most of the replies to changing or moving the forum...they all mention the same thing: as long as 'this' or 'that' stays the same...
Then why change it?
I appreciate my daw being picked up and maintained by a company that truly sees value in this product, but why fix something (this forum) that's not broken?
No matter what you change, there will be those who will be unhappy with a new format, just as there are some who are not happy with this one. You'll just be trading nay-sayers.
I'd rather see the grateful effort (...and, thank you, believe me) you're making, go into a reliable rock solid daw...
I purchased the platinum lifetime daw (full version, not an upgrade) January 2017. My first daw, ever. What wonderful musical days lay ahead of me...then in less than a year the rug was pulled out from under me.
I just want what I paid for.

Just my two synths...

A valid observation - here is some of the points for why I think the software needs updating:
  • Many times, if you edit a post it goes hiding and requires a forum moderator to return it to view
  • Often, when posting, the post gets duplicated - leading to a need to either ignore the duplicates or to clean up the threads
  • The search function is wonky and mostly doesn't really work - I found most answers to questions I've had by using Google to search rather than use the search here. If an external search engine can find it, surely the internal one should be able as well.
I think there were many other nits to pick with this forum software, but these are the ones I can remember and as wonky searches are one of them, I won't be searching for the others....

Thanks, Meng. :) Glad to see you're willing to get some new forums going.

XenForo has one of the best forum development teams out there and a lot of functionality can be connected from existing website accounts into the forum software which are reasons I recommend it these days. They also might be able to have a way to transfer the existing forum database to a new one within XenForo rather than just having to archive it which would be great because we'd also get access to the search function within it. Wouldn't be opposed to the actual threads being archived though and starting new with new ones.

A suggestion: provide a thread in the current forum where people can list any extremely valuable posts that should be brought across to the new forum. Then bring those ones across only.

I remember when the forum was last changed to it's present format. The update was reasonably seamless and the format change seemed like a step in the right direction at the time. At that time there was no problem with keeping all the old posts, and everyone could keep their names and their details, and threads seemed to remained relatively intact. I've no objection to a change, although you haven't explained why this is the most critical question to be answered at this time. Is the Forum hosted on the Cakewalk servers? If so, are they being shut down now that Bandlab has acquired Sonar?
If it's just a question of putting the forum onto Bandlab's servers for ease of functionality then I have no problem with that.
As you've quite rightly noted, the forum here is a big part of the Sonar world and I hope that community is of value to Bandlab and is worth keeping. I don't know much about this part of Cakewalk, but I'm sure there is great Forum software out there and "a change is as good as holiday" so they say. Please be aware that the Cakewalk community is going through more of a "leave of absence" rather than just a holiday at this point in time, so I for one would like the change to be as seamless as possible. I will leave this most important decision in what I am sure is your capable hands and look forward to the future. Good luck with your venture going forward.

So glad to see Sonar breathing again. The forums here are amazing. So long as the community and previous posts are preserved I have no problem changing forums. Great see the interaction from an owner.
I invested nearly 2,000 in studio one after the bad news, bought a new quantum 2 interface and faderport to work with studio one and still not even mad, I’d still switch back to Sonar in a second.
I think a big thing for Sonar was hardware. Programs like PT and S1 have lots of hardware designed for them, I would love hardware to work with Sonar.

Well you can see a few good reasons to start fresh and why this forum needs to go.
This forum was dead anyways. Very few people were asking "Sonar" questions as there were no more newbies and new features. That's gone, no more newbies and no more new features. And no point complaining about bugs or feature request too.
The most active sub forum has been Software were this community is trying to help each other figure other DAW's. That's certainly not good for business. I've learned more about other DAW's here than I ever had in the past.

And if they are going to release a new DAW it will undoubtedly be different so might as well start there
