- Several people have asked about the continued support for control surfaces, especially the VS-700 ... but there was no reply.
I am "tracing" such requests several years. But till now I have not seen any proposal WHAT should be improved. About VS-700. That is discontinued (!) product from other company (Roland). The source code is published. In fact it is the ONLY control surface with up to date code. I am not from CW, but looking at support for discontinued Tascam products, it is hard to imagine they can be convinced to invest into discontinued third party products.

Agree with azslow here, why would you expect Cakewalk to maintain a piece of hardware that another company used to sell. I don't want to be argumentative, but I DON'T want to pay for that as it benefits a very limited (and shrinking) group of users.

Because the V-Studio 700 system was developed and sold as a JOINT venture between Roland and Cakewalk. Every advertisement and every tutorial you have seen involving this system has been inexorably interwined with Sonar. It is a Sonar-based ystem! If you look on Youtube, virtually every professionally-produced video showing this system was produced by Cakewalk, NOT Roland. I don't even own the V-Studio system, or any of its components (well, except for Sonar 8.5.3), and I understand this. People aren't asking for Cakewalk to fix/address issues with the hardware side. They are asking for continued support on the software side. You know, the program that the hardware was specifically designed (and marketed) to control. I'm confused by the confusion.

I'm confused as well. If you go to the Roland web site, they still have drivers and the most recent updates. I doubt they will do any more updates because the product has been discontinued, but that's their choice - it's their hardware. Cakewalk is not a hardware company, so they're of course not going to update the hardware. I don't know if Cakewalk developed the DLL, but the controller still works in Platinum as it did in X3. As the hardware is almost certainly not going to change, I doubt there would be a need to update the DLL. I think the biggest issue would be if the software developed by Roland was no longer compatible with Windows.

Guys, a control surface DLL has got NOTHING to do with the hardware driver itself ... up-to-date control surface DLLs should always be in the interest of Cakewalk because they determine whether the software can be driven by hardware interfaces or not ... adding new features like a take lanes therefore requires updates for those control surface DLLs, period (unfortunately they don't happen, happen very late, or imcomplete) there are known issues with the industry standard MCU, there are a few minor issues with the VS-700 (e.g. channel locking) hich could be fixed probably relatively easy ... personally I do not need any of the new features for all the tasks I do with Sonar (I'm happy with what I got) but the continued support for CS and continued rock solid software stability (also with 3rd party plugs) is where I would put my money ... hence my question ...

I cannot see the advantage of upgrading whilst on win 7. I think this new sonar thing is a disgrace to loyal customers I already own all soft synths whereas sonar platinum and professional only have le versions. Also on some of the effects I already have Paying money upfront and then after is no better than renting with no end in sight. Sonar X3 is really what anybody needs at this point What are we getting?? le synths not so many effects and higher prices forever!!!!!!!!!!! I think people will leave sonar cakewalk and move to FL STUDIO or the other big ones if they do not follow this type of money making All good things have come to an end I will go elsewhere next upgrade At the moment X3 is good enough

igiwigi I cannot see the advantage of upgrading whilst on win 7. Win7 makes no difference at all. I think this new sonar thing is a disgrace to loyal customers I already own all soft synths whereas sonar platinum and professional only have le versions. This is completely wrong. Also on some of the effects I already have Paying money upfront and then after is no better than renting with no end in sight. No-one said anything about paying upfront AND after. Sonar X3 is really what anybody needs at this point Wrong, X3 does not have VocalSync which I've used already. What are we getting?? le synths not so many effects and higher prices forever!!!!!!!!!!! igiwigi Paying money upfront and then after is no better than renting with no end in sight.
"Paying after" is called a "paid upgrade" in the software industry. Even FL Studio's free updates for life don't give you everything. At least that's what their web site says. What are we getting?? This. Make sure you scroll down all the way to the end of the page to see all the new features. I think people will leave sonar cakewalk and move to FL STUDIO or the other big ones if they do not follow this type of money making "This type of money making" is how SONAR has been sold for years. There are only two differences: - You now have an additional way to pay (monthly) as well as the standard option
- Instead of waiting a year and doing a paid upgrade with a collection of features, you have the OPTION to pay upfront and have the features appear as soon as they're ready over the course of a year. Or you can wait and upgrade sometime in the future. Like you can do now.
It's really not that complicated. Read the FAQ.
