I hate to complain since it is such a great update. But after installation I lost all the customization I had done to my Control Bar. I think it went back to the default. No biggie.

Re: New SONAR "Braintree" Release now available 2015/02/28 16:06:05 (permalink)
is it normal that it tooks few seconds to update ? (i don't have all the content by the way )

I dowloaded the full DL via my account (300 mb) then i installed it and it creates another full install (i didn't used the same folder) so i unistaled this and used the update option on the center , and then it took like 10 sec to update ..

EDIT : i re installed the full DL ...to be sure ..... but one thing is that i still don't have the boz digital PC module (platnum user here)

EDIT 2 : ok i got it , we have to install it on it's own , by the way i tried a roll back in the previous version everything is snap and smooth , Cake outdid themselves on this one !!

Sadly, I believe it's bundled with the help and tutorials download which is too large for me to be able to get at this time...

It would be nice if they made the ODG available by itself...

We've only just had the first monthly release.

I don't think Cake ever said the releases would be monthly, did they?

Sorry if this has been covered...

Since I downloaded today and got "UP1" this means I'm fully patched, right? I snagged all the other files too but that seems to be all the extra goodies (which I have not installed yet).

I used the offline activation process.

Cheers.

This may have been asked somewhere previously, but given the surprising amount of content (you guys weren't kidding about working to make membership worthwhile!), what will the future availability be for monthly content?

I wondering about my backup strategy for all the new content here.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about monthly content.
As long as you continue to be an active member you will continue to have access to any monthly content.
Fixes or changes to the application that show up on a monthly basis are always cumulative - i.e. they will continue in future versions. However any monthly only premium content will not be offered to NEW customers going forward.
If you are on monthly plan and keep your membership active through consecutive months then any premium content will continue to be available to you in future months. This also applies to annual customers obviously since they have fully paid for the membership upfront.
If you stop your monthly membership before completing a consecutive 12 month period you will lose access to that content and SONAR will switch to demo mode.
Once the 12 month period is paid for all the content will continue to be available to you permanently via your account since you now own it. Hope this clarifies any concerns.

Where am I supposed to be looking to see this? Here's what I see...

Okay, that helped. If I hover over the tab in Chrome or Opera I can see it. I'm pretty sure that's referring to when the releases start happening, but it would be easy to assume "coming next" meant February.

Nah, that's just a cock up. Come 'in' February, means in, Coming 'from' February, means it will start from. Probably planned as February and then decided not, stick with coming soon and this slipped through the radar.

Actually, when the roadmap for updates was being discussed the Drum Replacer was not planned for February. I was always told March at the earliest, and more likely April. However that was early on in the planning process, and I'm not privy to everything that happens in Boston, so maybe they decided to move it ahead.

But I think your "slipped through cracks" theory is probably correct, because the items on that page were not planned for February. Originally, the expectation was that the first update would be mostly fixes, and features wouldn't hit until March. But then Noel became Noelistic and spearheaded the DSD, VocalSync, and Mix Recall stuff. They were done fast enough to allow time for QC, so they ended up in the February release.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about monthly content.

Part of the confusion comes from the term "monthly content".  By that expression do you mean:

a) any content made available to people who are monthly subscribers (or prepaid annual subscribers)

or

b) you literally mean there is a plan and commitment to provide a release every month?

I meant a) sorry. There is definitely a plan to release content frequently. It may or may not exactly hit month ends since we will release it when its ready but you can expect updates typically around the time frame of a month give or take some.

I think you are asking what happens if you let your subscription lapse for 12 months.  I believe what Cakewalk has been trying to say all along is (essentially) that their system (your account at the store) will show you are entitled to only those content items that were made available during the months when your subscription was active, plus anything that is considered integral to the core product.

The implication of that is that every user's "set of owned items" so to speak, could be different, depending on which months their subscription was paid up.  That implies a bit of sophistication in the download management system, but I think that's what they have been trying to say.

And the other implication seems to be that if you do let your subscription lapse for a period of time, there may be no way you could ever legally acquire the content you missed.  Cakewalk could offer "catch-up fees" or offer to license the missed content on an a la carte basis, but they have not promised to do that, as far as I know.  Cakewalk's goal is to have users maintain their subscriptions.  That's the whole point of this change.  That gives Cakewalk a more predictable revenue stream, which allows them to hire staff and partner with 3rd parties to get this content out to us.  That's the deal.

Every merger or acquisition I have ever seen trumpets the fantastic "synergy" that is sure to follow.  In almost every case, "synergy" actually means layoffs of redundant functions.  This really does seem like one of those very rare cases where there truly is synergy and it isn't about layoffs.  Clearly Cakewalk is in a much better place with Gibson.  The Cakewalk staff must be really excited at this stage.

I'm going to do something I rarely do here, and put on my Gibson hat. Gibson creates a challenging environment, and there is always pressure to go above and beyond. I'm sure this is indeed exciting for Cakewalk but it can be scary.

That said, what they pulled off in the last year has been remarkable. It has been a combination of trying to regain what was lost while also moving forward. A lot of effort was spent on consolidating the three different web sites into one, and doing a huge number of "under the hood" improvements to SONAR that aren't particularly sexy, but were essential to move forward. Despite any shortcomings of the new installer, they will be fixed and the concept of being able to update in smaller chunks is sound.

Gibson did not acquire Cakewalk to fire everyone, make the bottom line look good for a few months, then flip it. The goal was to have Cakewalk be a valuable addition to Gibson Brands and provide a level of software expertise you can't just create out of nothing. Cakewalk has done an amazing job, with relatively limited resources but also with a very dedicated team.

The synergy is still in its early stages...it will be interesting to see what Neat Microphones brings to the party, too. These are very exciting times at Gibson, and Cakewalk is definitely a part of that.

Do we need to install all the items in the Command Center again?? Where precisely are the updates??

I know the following:

- Sonar Platinum itself
- NYC Showroom Impulses
- BOZ Digital Labs

Do we need to reinstall Rapture?
