It would be nice if the Control Group (i.e. Track, Bus, Main) buttons on the Mackie MCU could toggle the "Tracks, Busses, Mains" control in the Sonar console view.

Here's a couple of ideas. Fix the remove silence function: It produces clicks and chops off the front of clips and it appears that the look ahead feature doesn't work. I have finally switched to using gates destructively on drum tracks. Also in Sonar 6 when bouncing to clips or tracks only one cpu is being used while the other cpu sits idlely by.

ORIGINAL: F@KKER feature request: a P A U S E . B U T T O N , when you depress play on the transport it SHOULD turn into a pause button. There is already one stop button, why two? Totally agreed. There are still those who think that Ctrl-Space is a Pause, but that creates a new Now Time, so it's really just another Stop. What we need is something that will pause playback, to work in conjunction with "On Stop, Rewind to Now Marker", that won't create a new Now Time. That could either be a new Pause button, or changing the Play button so it also Pauses, as you suggest, or a new keyboard command like Alt-Space, or even just a new option underneath "On Stop, Rewind to Now Marker", where it says something like "On Pause (meaning Ctrl-Space), Create New Now Time" (which is what it does now, so I would keep that unchecked). Please please please, CW, implement one of these options.

9-pin control of external devices, or allowing sonar to be controlled via 9-pin. routing options per track that allow each one to be routed to multiple busses (without using aux sends) 'place at original timecode' option for recorded clips, or clips dragged in from the audio folder. Hell, even just for BWAVs that have moved. Varispeed Proper clocking options CD mastering / PQ editing, rendering an ISO CD image straight from the timeline. Function to use any available audio input/output to receive/send SMPTE time code. Grouping of clips accross multiple tracks, so that they could all be edited or moved as one single clips. Support for multi-channel BWAVs, on both import and export.

+1 on the Pause button. Two more things: 1) Keystrokes for scrolling by finer increments than a measure. This will allow for control surfaces like the Contour Shuttle family (including the Pro) to work properly. As it stands, the Shuttle can only scroll by one measure at a time. That's lame. Of course, if Contour would write a proper CS plugin for SONAR, they could implement a lot of stuff. But they have chosen not to do so... only a half-baked beta plugin. SONAR could easily support this, and it would help with scrolling with other controllers too, simply by mapping keystrokes. 2) Proper stereo panning, with two pan controls (width/center) or preferably three pan controls (mid/side/center). Please refer to this thread. Even better, implement it with a user-selectable option: a) the way it is now, b) dual mono panning, c) width/center, and 4) mid/side/center, all with a user-selectable default. That's similar to how nuendo does it now. This would allow for backward compatiblility, yet provide flexibility for the future.

I would like the ability to do a "mute lock" on specific tracks within a Track Folder. Oftentimes, I might record several vocal tracks, for example, or record several comped takes within one track and then split them out onto different tracks. And then they might all go into a Track Folder together. But then some of those tracks might be muted and others not, so later if I want to mute all of the vocals at once, it's easy enough to just mute that folder, rather than muting each track individually. Actually, there's an extra step to that, as the first time pressing Mute on the folder will unmute the muted tracks, and then I'll have to press Mute again to mute everything. And then of course, at that point, to hear the vocals again, unmuting the folder will now unmute every track within it, including the ones I wanted muted. And there are times when there are several different tracks within the folder, some muted and some not, when it can be difficult to know which ones to mute again. There are some things that can help... to use Solo as much as possible, of course... but that's not often nearly as convenient as merely muting a track folder would be. And if there are several muted tracks within a folder that I know for sure I'm not going to want to use again, then I try to transfer them to a separate archive folder. But still, the best thing, IMO, would be to have the ability to mute a track within a Track Folder to the point where it is not affected by the folder's Mute button. So I'm thinking you could right-click on the mute button on a track to select "Mute Lock" if you wanted to do that.

I'm guessing this was in response to what I just posted?? ORIGINAL: ooblecaboodle archive the tracks you don't want to un-mute? Well, as I said, I already do that when I'm certain I will not be using tracks, but that can be a long process while I'm trying out different combinations of tracks. Mute the clips? (select them and hit 'Q') I'm talking about entire tracks within Track Folders only. Use mute groups? No, that doesn't really work, either. The same thing happens once you select and unselect the folder's Mute button. Go ahead and see what I mean... Create a track folder and then put a bunch of tracks in it. Then mute about half of them. Then try to listen to other tracks in your project, outside of that folder, without hearing anything within that folder. Then try to hear what's in that folder again, without hearing the tracks that were previously muted. If you can find me a simple way to do that, I'm all for it. I think a "mute lock" specifically for tracks in Track Folders would do the trick much more efficiently, although you'd have to remember to specify that you want that each time you mute a track in a folder. Or maybe there could be a global option that says something like "Keep muted tracks in folders muted when using folder's Mute button".

Actually, my mistake. Clocking options in sonar depend entirely on the audio hardware. black burst video reference, word clock, etc. I'm so used to using DAWs that have all the options that I keep forgetting, not everything in sonar is down to the software!!

For years I've been asking Cake for a Bypass ALL effects bins check box. One click and they're all disabled... including busses. Click again, and they're all enabled... including busses. Great for overdubs and punch-ins in the middle of a mix... especially if you use input monitoring at low latency setting.

A possibility to use the mouse wheel to scroll between open Sonar windows for instance while pressing the right mouse button. The Opera web browser has this feature for scrolling between open tabs. It's very convenient, and would be so in Sonar, too: I hate the Ctrl+Tab command, since the windows always appear in a given order. Whith the mouse wheel feature I'd be able to go right away to the window I want. wb

ORIGINAL: SteveD Windows Ctrl+Tab works the same way. Just press and hold the Ctrl key as you press the tab key multiple times to skip through all open window application icons. Release the Ctrl key when the app you want is selected. No, that's the Alt+Tab. I'm not talking about different apps, but different windows (views) in one single app, Sonar. Thats where you use Ctrl-Tab, but then you won't scroll through any icons, but through the actual windows. In Opera, scrolling with the mouse wheel while pressing the right mouse button works in the same way as the Windows Alt+Tab skcrolling between apps: a small list of the names of the tabs (the name of the website) is shown, and these names are highlighted when scrolling. Thus you don’t scroll through the actual tabs, but through a list of them. The one you stop at will be activated. The advantage of this in Sonar would be that you can anytime lift any particular window (view) in front of the one that’s active for the moment. If you have, say, a large track view window, a large console window and a small PRV window open and want to keep the track view visible in the background while activating the small PRV view in front of it, you won’t be able to do it with the Ctrl+Tab method, unless you were fortunate enough to open the windows precisely in this order. If not, which is more likely, the large console window will cover the track window before you get to the PRV window. So you will have the console, not the track view in the background. See? wb

My biggest complaint with it is that by default, when you do it over a track it will zoom both vertically and horizontally. There is an option to only zoom horizontally (which is what I want, and if you Alt-Mousewheel over a blank area it only zooms horizontally) but then that disables Ctrl-Alt-Mousewheel to vertically zoom an audio clip's waveform--which I use a lot.

Hitting pause would "hold" the midi notes - keeping the last note flowing - hitting pause again released all the audio and midi in perfect timing/tempo. Great effect for starting a lead guitar or vocal. I really liked knowing I had that tool to experiment with!
