@John... I'm curious though, and perhaps you can enlighten me, as to what the Suite cost when it originally came out. Was it more than $500? If so then I did get a deal as a late adopter. If not... well... yanno. I hope you have been well, my friend.

@Beebster: X1 support will stop at the moment X2 is released (I think it´s safe to say it already came to an end of it´s life cycle). But you decide when it´s outdated (it could happen now or next decade).
And the golden rule when purchasing software is: never presume or hope for anything else, you buy it as is.

@cake2010... That doesn't mean I can't call them if I run into problems though, right? Because that would be bad. I was under the impression I had 2 years from date of purchase. And sorry... that probably is a dumb question but definitely something I'm worried about. With the other stuff I can just lock the system down and use it as is. Cheers and thank you for providing info. That's all I'm looking for here.

Beepster i don't know much about the Suite. In the past it was not often available. Or was configured differently. I do know that in the recent past Sonar cost $1200 as a new full non upgrade version. That went to $500 or so and the upgrade went down too.

You have not been ripped off. You bought the most expensive version that was current at the time.

If you bought the VS 700 package it may have cost you around $3000 including X1. So don't worry be happy.

CW has some odd pricing schemes that are hard to predict.  But the Producer version has always followed a rather simple pricing scheme.

I have stayed with producer from the beginning when it was called XL.

The very first Sonar came as Sonar or Sonar XL. That evolved into Studio and Producer. Suite, I know nothing about. Sorry.

Best

Sorry about that, John. I guess should have asked what the original price of Producer was. It was $400 at the time I made my purchase. Thanks... and I haven't seen these thousand dollar + bundles before. I'm curious as to what they contain. Might give me a better idea of things I am currently missing.

When I bought Rapture in 2007..  the cost to own Sonar was about $850..  I remember very clearly, "not being able to afford it, and soon after I switched to mac."

I bought Rapture @ $199, and now its basically a Sonar, "include."  And I don't care.  The music is not what we pay for the software, or which software we use...  Certainly taste, and preference helps to eventually decide the kit we like to keep, the gear we like to get...

Beepster, I totally understand your complaint..  Its hard to pay full price, and see it go on discount very shortly after...  We are living in strange economic times.  Hopefully you don't carry any resentment and just get back to enjoying music..  its an annoyance yeah..  aint worth sweating over though..   we could all be in the same boat..  it all evens out..  I paid $100 more for Rapture, and another $100 - $150 on architecture waveforms, and a couple of producer beats things..  both of which are, "still in the cakewalk shop," and significantly less now..

too many lasers...

Sonar = audio editing ninja of a music software!

Don't ask me the dates but Sonar was never cheap The $1200 figure is what is used to cost to new users. Only in recent years has its price come down.

The bundles were and are curiosities that pop up from time to time with different inclusions. I don't consider them standard offerings.

Stay with producer and things will work out in the end for you.

@cake2010... Thanks. That was definitely my biggest concern. I will have to lock down the system though so Microsoft doesn't do something silly that screws up X1 but that's not such a big deal I guess. Cheers.

Re:Sonar X2 !!!!! 2012/08/01 18:47:52 (permalink)
Cool little trailer but after the initial X1 debacle I refuse to get overly excited based on marketing hype. Cakewalk has NEVER fell short on the bells and whistles. They offer some of the best in the business in that area imo. That's to be expected.

I'm more concerned about core functionality and things like:

Gapless audio

Better integration/routing options between the FX bin and ProChannel (maybe the new PC FX Chains will somehow address this)

Possible vst3 support. Would like to see it but not a deal breaker. Would be nice though.

Copy/Paste synth automation. This has been broken since X1's release and despite numerous complaints on the forum and problem reports submitted, it has not been fixed in ANY of the X1 updates.  (This will be a deal breaker for me if not fixed.  Because quite frankly I find it ridiculous that it's went this long w/o being addressed.)

Better handling of bus automation. Crazy that you still can't properly copy and paste automation on busses.

Improved Browser functionality. There's still some weird behavior w/ the browser at times.

....and so on.

And seeing as how it looks like they've done away w/ Expanded (which is a decision I agree with), I would hope there is a nice upgrade price for those of us who paid the extra money and bought into that whole thing.

Does anyone know of a pre-release sale ?? I'd buy it tonight based on my past experiences with Cakewalk. Try buying hardware that does the same thing. It'd cost you a fortune. You could easily spend a half million dollars on a recording studio, a couple hundred bucks for software is peanuts.

Linear Phase

Are you using Balance as well? I am on Windows 7 home premium yes. When I called support on this issue the first time they had no idea what Balance was or Propellerhead for that matter. It was very disencouraging to say the least but I called last week spoke with a guy named Dan who had been helping me via e-mail support (though sometimes waiting over a month to email me back) and apparently this issue will not be fixed in x1. I am definately demoing X2 first but if these issues are not fixed I am highly considering going Studio One 2 Professional with a crossgrade rather than Sonar X2 Producer Expanded which is where I will likely go if I upgrade with Cakewalk. I love the Cakewalk plug ins and have not had a single issue with those in any environment I have tried them in.

I'm using the art usb..  its a piece of work..  I'll say that.   Most of audio dropouts come from A.  Having a frozen rewire synth that has not been deleted.  B. having any sort of anti-virus/spyware/malware/firewall running the background.  C. not having certain, "extra windows services," turned off.  D. not having a proper configuration of drivers ( in both sonar preferences and windows control panel )

When I have this stuff set up proper..  I get a rare audio dropout here and there.

What's your entire setup look like?  Asio -- latency?  Control Panel? got some jpegs of your settings?  and your windows startup?  whats in there..  finally, who does your anti-virus?  mcaffee?  norton?  spybot?

Cheers

I was using Avast until a few days ago but before that I had Kapursky didn't seem to make a difference I have had em all and they have all more or less given me problems. As far as Asio-latency I cannot open Sonar without getting a BSOD so sending screen shots would not work. Its currently not even installed because I got so frusterated. I think I may have bad ram though because when I get the BSOD its usually a Cache_manager warning but again this only happens in Sonar no issues running Live or Reason or Cubase LE.

Some good worthwhile improvements on the way.

Please, please, please none of the quality issues we saw at X1's release and please can we have as many persisting long standing issues as possible squashed for good?

If it's in there lets have it working and not just working but working well.

Thank you.
