They mention Roland V-Vocal on the main page. Damn. Was hoping it would be something new! Apparently there was a video in which Brandon was hinting at V-Vocal hitting the end of its life span?.. Hope to god it's at least going to V-Vocal 2.0, PLEASE fix the terrible audio quality! Pitch correction is a very commonly used tool these days - so make it good, damn you! Fingers crossed they are withholding that announcement for the second teaser. Automation lanes look cool. Doesn't really look like much yet, but I'm sure they are holding back all the good stuff and purely just getting us excited about the X2 side of things, they don't want to be letting out all the cool stuff too soon or there will be nothing left to tease us with. All that has to come out close to release date so we can all still feel giddy and excited and buy buy buy. Spill the beans too soon and we'll get over it when release date arrives. Oh and it looks pretty. Why does every new update always look extra pretty? Is it 'shinny red ball' syndrome?

Ionian Does anyone know if Cakewalk is going to come to their senses and return the phase and stereo interleave buttons BACK to each individual track? I purchased that abortion known as X1 and haven't used it once, the minute I realized that Cakewalk crippled it by removing them. If I could have gotten my money back, I would have. I've stayed at 8.5. Hopefully Cake will start focusing on professionals again. Although I've managed to talk 3 people out of buying X1 by showing them X1 and how it's been crippled since 8.5 so I'm happy about that! If I couldn't get my money back for X1, at least I took 3 sales away from cakewalk. Regards, Frank It's all in the inspector. I was frustrated at first too when I couldn't find it, but I think it's more appropriate in the inspector now, keeps it out of the way. It's more of a set it and leave it feature, unlike panning and volume and fx bins etc. You don't need it cluttering up each track when you only use it once or twice in a project then never need to touch again.

Beepster @kitekrazy... Yeah I hear ya. I just want to know the Bakers thoughts on this or the other users. As I said I am new to these products so I'm not sure how it all works and someone did mention the possibility that something might be done for folks like myself. Unfortunately some of the other forum users are taking that as whining or bashing Cake. Very disappointing really because that is NOT what I'm doing. I have nothing to bash them for as I don't even know their stance on the issue yet. Peace. I see exactly where you are coming from dude. I would be upset too but at the same time it is simply the way of the software world. If I were you I would just sit on X1 for a few months and wait for one of those 50% off upgrade sales that come around in January or February of each year. It usually takes that long for them to work many of the early bugs out anyway. Many early adopters of Sonar tend to pay extra for extra bugs just to say they got it a few months earlier. I am debating on waiting but I want to try a demo first. If X2 works exactly as it is supposed to I will sing the praises of Cakewalk day and night. Many people here are just thin skinned is all they cannot handle people bad mouthing their tool of choice. I see it on various forums though I think Sonar fanbois are some of the worst fanbois around

Random thoughts after watching the video...with frequent pause-and-rewinds. (I know attention spans are getting shorter and shorter, but really?) I'm glad to see that CW appears to be getting back on track after their (hopefully) brief obsession with looking like Studio One. Back to some ergonomic editing, organization, composition and workflow features. There is insufficient information to decide if it's enough to bring me back on board, though - marketing hype can raise your expectations unrealistically. The main reason I stayed on 8.5 is because of what they did to automation editing in X1. Will automation lanes save the day? We'll see. But mention of automation editing enhancements makes me cautiously optimistic. This, for me anyway, is the primary potential deal maker/breaker. The Replace Synth feature could be a useful enhancement, although what I'm always wishing for is a Replace Plugin feature. Many other bullet points could turn out to be anything from uber-cool to ho-hum, given the lack of details. "Aim editing"? "PRV editing enhancements"? "Widget enhancement?" All of these could be wonderful improvements (maybe the widget enhancements are that you can put the interleave button back in the track header!!!) Breverb, I'll take it but I don't need it. Is this a "lite" version? The Overloud version goes for $200. The UI looks the same, but I'm guessing there are fewer algorithms in the SONAR-bundled version. Ever since ValhallaRoom came along, I'm guessing it's pretty tough selling $200 reverbs anymore. R-Mix, meh. When I first saw it I thought it might be akin to Adobe Audition's spectral editor. Alas, it is not. A toy for remixers, I think. This also appears to be a "lite" version of the (normally $200) full product, based on fewer UI elements. Many new features fall under the category of "might be interesting but probably won't be". "Smart snap" for example. Only loopers and drag 'n drop "composers" snap to a grid. Real audio - the kind that comes out of a microphone - does not quantize. Matrix view enhancements are definitely irrelevant to conventional recordists. Auto track zoom? Enhanced time-ruler zoom? Unless they've done something really clever, nah. And don't get me started on "console emulation", the emperor's latest fad. In the screenshots, it appears that clips now have title bars. That could be useful, but not useful enough to give up a quarter-inch of vertical screen real estate per track. Maybe they're optional. MIDI timing and MIDI/audio sync enhancements, audio engine optimizations - now that's the old Cakewalk I've grown up with! Marketing doesn't know how to sell stuff like that, but it's key to long-term customer loyalty.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

I'll be waiting till Jan or Feb regardless as I'm not going to be switching to X2 in the middle of my album. So I'm happy to patiently wait for the nice 50% off sale :) Bitflipper, I got the impression from your post that you thought the video was a bit lame. I certainly did. What's with this stupid 'accessing database' crap?!?! I'm not 15 years old! It was like it was marketed to teenagers.... I do like the idea of a new reverb though. I'm not a fan really of convolution as I hate going through all the patches. I'd rather something I can just tweak to get exactly the sound I want, rather than trying to edit a convo sound which is kinda what I want. And Sonitus reverb sounds crap.

xabiton I was using Avast until a few days ago but before that I had Kapursky didn't seem to make a difference I have had em all and they have all more or less given me problems. As far as Asio-latency I cannot open Sonar without getting a BSOD so sending screen shots would not work. Its currently not even installed because I got so frusterated. I think I may have bad ram though because when I get the BSOD its usually a Cache_manager warning but again this only happens in Sonar no issues running Live or Reason or Cubase LE. Free anti-virus? meh! :-) there is some OK free anti-spyware.. ( spybot, adaware se, malwarebytes ) but free anti-virus has always given me a headache. BSOD? Really, every time you open up Sonar? If that is really the case, than its got to be affecting your other software, whether or not you have seen the effect. I'm not a computer pro by any stretch of the imagination, but I am totally curious now.. so.. um.. What's your computer make, and model, when did you buy it, and where? How much ram was in the machine when you bought it, and who installed the extra ram? What type of ram, and what brand? You are using windows 7 home premium, 64 bit? besides the ignition key, that is in the Reason balance what are your other dongles, and types of copy protect? what are your monitors? will reason balance work with Asio4All? When was the last time you did a system backup and restore? Have you thought about re-installing windows? I have not had a BSOD on Windows 7. The last time I saw a BSOD on windows was in 2007, just before I switched to Mac, and had a pentium 4 that was several years old.. Since returning to Windows, and these new cheap modern multi-core machines... no BSOD's.. yet.. knock on wood... cheers

I got to look at how much I spent on expanded and hopefully they give the expanded people a better deal. I noticed that they were trying to promote expanded a lot before this upgrade to X2. Hmmm...

mmarton pdlstl xabiton That console emulation looks like a load of fun. I am wondering what the new model is if I remember right the current ones are a neve and a ssl in producer right? what is this A model? I have Slate VCC and the A console in it is the API. The SONAR console emulation is going to have to be pretty bada** to slay the Slate VCC. 2¢ I also have Slate VCC, so I'm wondering if this new console emulation in X2 is proprietary or "licenced". And agreed, pretty tall order to outdo the Slate VCC. I am interested in what the "new console emulation" will be. Sonar X1 prochannel already has modules for an SSL type console; so I hope this will be something other than another SSL type console. Anyone have a clue if the TH2 will be a spripped down lite version or the real deal? I don't own Overloud's TH2 and this addition might be a nice supplement to GR, Amplitube and the greatest of all boutique amp sims, the Scuffham S-Gear.

Beepster, I here you too. Cakewalk released X1d in March and since they kept us all in the dark, not keeping us informed on any developments for X1. Now X2 is released. A lot of us were under the impression that there was more on the way for X1, especially with last Summers bulletin and expanded module teaser. Being a huge fan of X1 and Expanded, I am disappointed that no work went into X1e but all the needed bug fixes are being carried over to X2. My advice to you Beepster is to not upgrade to X2 but wait several upgrade cycles. Since they already got your money, especially nearing the end of the product life cycle - you want to use that version and extend its life cycle for your own use. As for Cakewalk, this is great news for them and a lot of X1 users who've been waiting for X2 but a lot of X1 users wanted more out of X1 and won't get it. X2 is also not everything everyone wanted it to be. So those folks who want color customization, staff view enhancements, a gapless audio engine, etc. - should all wait until that version with those features are included. X2 is an improvement over X1 but it isn't a major one. X3, X4, X5 will be much better but not everyone wants to wait. But getting back to your concern Beepster... don't upgrade for some time or until they give us a big price break. I know how it's going to be for you because I'm going to be on X1 for some time too. I can't afford to update/upgrade my DAW every 6-12 months and that's Cakewalks release cycle.

The Replace Synth feature could be a useful enhancement, although what I'm always wishing for is a Replace Plugin feature. This is a huge improvement and is already in Expanded. I have used it many times. Replace a plugin seems to me to be very easy. Leave the one there until you have the setting set in the new one than simply either remove the old one or turn it off. Auto track zoom? This I hope could be the feature I have been asking for. It would allow one to have a pre determined track height view (user determined) that would revert back to "normal" when you select another track. The new selection would zoom up to that view. And so on. It was a feature in Logic that I liked a lot. All your other points will need to be seen as they may or may not be good or bad depending on a lot of things. I agree with the Emperor point to a degree, though. I really like PC but I don't need another emulation of more consoles. But maybe it will be useful. Who knows. In general I welcome CW bundling more plugins as long as I am not required to use them. LOL. So far CW has not pressured me to use any of their plugins even though I do.

Let me be the first to say it. X2 is what X1 should have been in the first place. I am not knocking X1 just that many of the "new" enhancements should have been there from the start. I think there would have been far less angst. None the less its good to see this evolution.

Yeah, now I see that picture of the S, N, A type; at first, it went by so quickly that I could not tell. Hope they are decent. I already own VCC, and Waves (SSL and Neve), and UAD2 (SSL & Neve). Been wanting to get NLS for its Hedges EMI console. Be interested in how SonarX2 emulations will stack up against these now seemingly industry standard console emulators.

Hi,about upgrades and prices, well as a total newb @47,I bought Studio[boxed] for $199 from Gigasonic[+$70 shipping],as no one had it in Australia, even in May 2011,then I realised I wanted Producer, and bought another boxed version for $300[+$30]and of course all the Expanded/Pro Channel modules, last September/October. Quite frankly, compared to my old days of the occaisional[very] mega dollar studios[paid for by the record company luckily],and learning of early Pro Tools for $20,000,having this stuff, even after, buying X1 twice,I still think its amazing value. I could easily do without X2,as I'm only really coming to grips with X1D,but if it's a $99 upgrade in December,I think that might be pretty cool, although I did like having the security of having the box/discs,and not having them for a whole NEW platform could be a little disconcerting. I see the "Buy X1 now and get a free upgrade to X2" ... what can they do for those of us who already have X1 with all the goodies?

tommycat2000 I see the "Buy X1 now and get a free upgrade to X2" ... what can they do for those of us who already have X1 with all the goodies? Upgrade to X2 like all the rest of us. To me that notice is a way for CW to get rid of unsold merchandise.
